Bengaluru-based High Court advocate Prashanth Methal has filed a second complaint against Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh for allegedly insulting the traditional Tulu spirit-worship depicted in Rishab Shetty’s Kantara movies. The complaint was lodged at the High Grounds Police Station, Goa, following the actor’s performance at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on November 28.

According to the complaint, Ranveer mimicked the Panjuluri or Guliga daiva, a revered spirit in coastal Karnataka, in a manner described as ‘crude, derogatory, and comical’. Methal claimed the act caused ‘deep hurt’ to Hindu sentiments, particularly among the Tulu-speaking community. The complaint also stated that Ranveer referred to the daiva as a ‘female ghost’, which the advocate called ‘blasphemous’ and a deliberate show of disrespect. He urged the police to initiate legal proceedings against the actor.

This follows an earlier complaint submitted by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) on December 1 at the Panaji police station, which alleged that Ranveer insulted the Chavundi daiva. Both complaints have drawn attention to the sensitivity of performing religious or cultural depictions in public events.

Ranveer Singh had earlier issued an apology on social media after a video of his performance went viral. He stated, “My intention was to highlight Rishab's incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene in the way that he did, for which he has my utmost admiration.”

He further expressed regret for hurting sentiments, saying, “I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I've hurt anyone's sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”

The incident reportedly occurred when Ranveer interacted with Rishab Shetty at the IFFI closing ceremony and mimicked the daivas despite being asked not to by the Kannada actor. The controversy highlights ongoing debates around cultural sensitivity and public performances of religious traditions.
