"Bhabhi… kab taq intezaar karengi aap?" (Bhabhi… until when will you wait?) Her dark eyes sincerely grazed the open skies roofing the universe. Tiny specks of light scattered scarcely across the veil of darkness competing for the observers' marvel… but tonight, even these stars appeared in awe of the circular figure resting amongst them… claiming it's own glory… the moon… It had always made her wonder… People told stories of the moon as a distant object in the sky… but to her… it had always been close… An entity, with whom she shared… everything… bitter… sweet… "Bhabhi…" She looked up startled out of her thoughts, feeling a hand gently place on her shoulder. "Kab taq…" (Until when…). A faint smile danced upon her lips as the thought numbed everything else… Kayamath taq… she whispered into the night, faintly aware that her thoughts had escaped her gently parted lips… "Ji?…" The latter mumbled, as though in doubt of whether she had heard correctly… but the slender figure clad in a shade as deep as the night did not respond… as though… lost… in awaiting…

Sukriti stared at her bhabhi, as the latter turned her attention back to the skies… A moment passed unnoticed, as she tried to untangle her thoughts. Her bhabhi's voice rang clear in her mind… the last few words had held a different tone… a whisper… yet it seemed so… assuring… The confidence in Prachi's words… It bloomed hope within her heart too…

Sukriti smiled at her bhabhi's childish excitement… her heart warmed with the glow of hope Prachi's face radiated. Her bhabhi was indeed… one of a kind. Still smiling, she closed her own eyes… making a wish… After a brief moment, she opened her eyes and tugged at Prachi's arm… "Bhabhi, chaliye… tandh hogayi hai…" (Bhabhi, come… its gotten chilly now…). Prachi didn't budge. Rather, she smiled again… It was not an ordinary smile she noticed, but there was a mixture of emotions in it… a blend of pain… but sweet… awaiting, yet determinacy… Sensing her bhabhi's will, she left her arm… and walked towards the door… still rummaging through the complexities of her brother and sister-in-law's relationship…

It was a quiet night… almost too quiet he decided… Like the serenity before the storm… But he had numbed to the exterior… no storm of winds could do him harm… Not Milind Mishra… he assured himself… But he could feel a wave well up inside as the familiar face of his wife appeared before his open eyes without conscious effort. "ch…" his eyebrows crowed upwards as his efforts to remove her from his mind went in vain.

His eyes fell upon the moon… Momentarily, everything seemed to have been forgotten as he marvelled at the radiating figure in the sky. Closing his eyes without a thought, he could see her standing afore the large window in the room. Her hazel eyes relentlessly gazed at the circular object in the night's skies… her facial expressions revealed calmness… a satisfaction… as one has after confiding within another. The gentle winds would sway her dark hairs wondrously… falling over her face… giving it a mysterious glow…. Suddenly, he jerked his eyes open… Without much attention, his right hand moved clockwise from the left end of the leathery steering… the circular movement was left incomplete as he banged his curled fist on the horn at impulse. "I love her dammit!!!" Neev Shergill… an unexplained rage clouded his eyes as he relived the abhorred moment when destiny once again… gave him a tight slap in the face… Flashes of his life came into play in his mind… from the day he had tied himself to her… the marriage… the hatred… her unquestioning demeanour… his unkempt fury descending upon her like lightening… her moments of care for him… Neev's confession… her effort to explain her side… Unknowingly, moistness stung at the edges of his dark eyes… and he rubbed his hands across his face… the eyes finding the moon once more… Her soft voice now echoed in his head… Suniye… shaam ko aap ghar… mera matlab… aaj karvachauth hai…(Suniye… in the evening, could you please… I mean… today is karvachauth…) her voice fading with each word… He had stared at her blankly… an irritancy masking the chaos he felt inside. Her eyes spoke out to him… but he had left without heed… And as he passed her on the staircase… from the corner of his own eyes, he caught a watery film line hers…

He had silently been observing the interaction between his wife and sister from beneath the shadows. After learning hesitantly from Ramu Kaka that she had been up at the terrace for two hours now, he felt a gentle pang of guilt hit him square in the chest… but killed the feeling with his bitterness once more. With the aim of retiring to his room, he failed to understand how he ended up at the terrace. He watched them from afar, wondering at the unique bond they had come to share… and more so… at her unfaltering demeanour. No matter what, she had always remained composed… well, except that one time when he had wandered outside in the torrential rains… But that outburst had been provoked by a certain concern, which he had so often tried to shrug off as her "drama"… but then something, somewhere… told him otherwise. Kayamath taq… her serene voice soothed his rugged self… Had he heard correctly? It was barely a whisper even… inaudible almost… yet it had been carried through the winds… chiming in the atmosphere. Was this all another sham?… But… Without warning, his feet began to tread the invisible path leading towards her. As he neared, he could see the deep red, almost burgundy, fabric snake across her fine figure boasting of graceful curves. A strap of shimmering golden sequins danced along the edges of the pallu, neatly secured at her shoulder. Her petite wrists boasted of deep red bangles accented with simple gold kangans, with almost a copper texture… and as the uncertain breeze brushed passed her face, the dark tresses swayed gently… allowing a fleeting glimpse of simple chandeliers akin to the kangans… dancing lightly with the backdrop of her ear. For a moment, all was forgotten… Now as she turned, his eyes made out the black-beaded necklace hanging from her neck… the dash of red on her forehead… Her lightly kohled eyes gleaming, as a soft smile played on the crimson lips…
