Recap: Robbie is finding it hard to stay away from Kasturi, they spend a few cute moments in the office. Shivani calls Devika and tells her she will be coming to India with Raunak soon, the conversation between mother and daughter is short and bitter. Robbie takes Kasturi to one of his favourite hill spots and expresses his concern about his family, RoKa lighten the mood and share a few sweet moments together, while hugging each other Robbie suddenly looks up and says: Amar?

Part 12: Devika's approval

Kasturi came out of Robbie's embrace and looked at him shocked then turned to look behind her.

Robbie: I mean have you spoken to Amar about everything that's happened.

Kasturi lets out a huge sigh of relief she thought Amar had seen them together when Robbie said his name.

Kasturi: you scared me, for a second I thought Amar was here. I have not spoken to him yet, he was in the office but we kept our distance, to tell you the truth I feel really awkward around him now I think I am going to leave it for a few days then slowly try and talk to him or wait till he approaches me.

Robbie: yeah your probably right its best to leave it for now let him come to terms with things. I feel sorry for him but I hope he will understand when he does find out the truth why you rejected his proposal.

Kasturi: yeah anyway lets just forget all of that, come on lets go its getting late.

RoKa get back in the car and drive towards Kasturi's house. They stopped at the traffic lights, Kasturi was looking out the window when she saw a boy selling some roses, she rolled her windows down and called him over.

Kasturi: Mujhe ekh bunch dena

Flower buy: Didi, ekh aur lelo na, aaj mujhe saare phool bechna hai

Kasturi: Nahin mujhe aur nahin chaiye

She rolled the window back up and sent the boy away. Robbie was watching all of this and then asked Kasturi: Do you like flowers?

Kasturi: I love flowers, especially these Roses, I often buy fresh flowers and decorate the house with them.

Robbie rolled down his side of the window and called the boy to his side.

Robbie: Tumhe saare phool aaj bechna hai na? the boy nodded, it was obvious that he really needed the money today but was finding it difficult to sell all his flowers.

Robbie: To phir tumhare saare phool mujhe dedo. Robbie handed the boy a large note and brought all the flowers.

Flower boy: Thank you sir, aapka dil bohoth bara hai, bagwaan aap dono ko humesha khush rakhe.

Robbie rolled up his window and looked at Kasturi. He handed her the large bunch of Roses and gave out an equally large smile. Kasturi was really taken aback by his gesture

Kasturi: Robbie you did not have to buy all the roses for me.

Robbie: I know Kasturi but I wanted to. Not only because you like them but because I wanted to help that little boy. I really feel for these people who work day and night just to gather enough money for at least one meal a day. Their wishes mean a lot to me.

Kasturi understood what Robbie was saying, she could not believe how thoughtful and kind Robbie really is. She silently made a prayer to god thanking him for sending Robbie in her life and wished that they always remain together.

They reached Kasturi's house and Robbie parked by the corner where he normally does, before Kasturi got out she turned to look at Robbie and said:

Kasturi: Can I ask you something Robbie?

Robbie: of course, you can ask me anything you want.

Kasturi: will you take me to the orphanage where you donate money each month.

Robbie looked at Kasturi slightly shocked, he did not expect Kasturi to know about this. Kasturi noticed Robbie look at her in deep thought.

Kasturi: I saw the cheque that you sent them recently, that is how I know about it

Robbie: oh right. Yes of course I will take you there, everyone will be really pleased to see you. We will go soon okay?

Kasturi was really happy, she wanted to know more about Robbie and see this caring nature of his, its something he keeps hidden from everyone else, very few people know this about him. They both kissed each other goodnight and headed home.

A few weeks later:

Robbie walked into Sabarwal house after work and heard loud voices coming from inside, he continued walking and went inside the hall, Puru and Devika were standing in the middle arguing about something. Robbie stood at a distance and just looked on helplessly. He saw Alaana coming down the stairs and went over to ask her:

Alaana what's happened? Why are they arguing?

Alaana: You know that Shivani phoned and said she is coming to India soon. Dad caught mum talking to someone at a hotel for a room booking for Raunak and Shivani. He is angry because mum would rather arrange for Shivani to stay at a hotel than come to her parents' house.

Robbie looked on confused at what was happening.

Devika: Puru you have misunderstood my conversation on the phone, Shivani told me she would rather stay at a hotel so I was just making sure they had a booking available for when they arrive. You know its tourist season soon all the top hotels will be full.

Puru: Devika what is the need for Shivani to stay at a hotel when she has her own house, her own family. Why don't you just admit that you do not want Shivani to come and stay with us?

Devika: Puru please stop it, you can ask Shivani yourself, she told me she does not want to come home….

Puru:….that is probably because you told her not to, you don't want her to come here because she is not your…..

Devika:….That's enough! I have heard enough Puru, like always even this time you don't believe me.

Saying this Devika walked out before they both say more than they should in front of Robbie and Alaana.

Everyone walked to their rooms in silence, Robbie lay on his bed and thought about all the times when he saw his parents arguing, he knew they both were hiding something, they would usually stop mid sentence and not reveal anything. Robbie walked over to his window and looked out, he could see Devika sitting on the garden bench looking up at the sky. Robbie took a shawl and walked inside the garden, he wrapped the shawl around Devika and sat down beside her. Devika quickly turned her face wiped her tears, she managed to forge a fake smile and turned back to look at Robbie.

Devika: have you eaten dinner yet? She asked him stroking his hair like she did when he was a little boy.

Robbie held his mums hand and said:

For how long are you going to hide your tears from me mum?

Devika looked on at Robbie not knowing what to say, Robbie realised Devika was finding it hard to face him, he decided to lighten her mood and said: come on mum lets go out for a drive, we haven't been out together in ages.

Devika: Robbie now at this time? Where do you want to go?

Robbie: anywhere mum, come on there is something I want to tell you.

With out giving Devika the chance to say anything else Robbie took her by the hand and walked her to his car, they both got in and Robbie drove to his bungalow. He stopped his car out side and was about to come out when Devika said;

Robbie I thought you wanted to tell me something, what is it? and why have we come here to your bungalow?

Robbie: Mum you will find out everything, all your answers are inside.

Robbie opened his front door and they both walked in, Devika looked around, she had not visited his bungalow in a while, Devika walked around the seating area and looked to see if the place was cleaned and looked after properly. Robbie watched his mum carry out her motherly activities. Robbie decided that today was the right time, he wanted to bring a smile to his mothers face and knew this news will do the job. Yes Robbie had decided to tell Devika about him and Kasturi.

Robbie: mum don't you want to find out what I want to tell you?

Devika: Robbie I have been asking you since ages, at least tell me now. I don't understand what has happened to you I have noticed for the last few days your behaviour has changed, what is it Robbie?

Without being able to hold it in any longer Robbie breaks into a huge smile and says:

Mum I am in Love! Your son, the great Robbie Sabarwal is in love

Devikas eyes widen, she lets out a slight shriek and says: you're in love? Robbie who is she? Oh my god I don't believe it my son is in love. Robbie knew his mum would be happy at hearing this, Devika has always wanted Robbie to find his true match.

Robbie: Mum I wont reveal who she is so soon, you will have to find her.

Devika looked at him confused: find her? What so you mean, is she here?

Robbie: you could say that yes, she is here, look behind you and you will find her.

Robbie pointed at the various family pictures put on the mantel piece behind Devika. Devika began looking at the pictures carefully, she looked at each frame then picked up one of Robbie, she turned the frame around and saw a picture of Kasturi behind it. Instantly Devika had a feeling that the girl has to be Kasturi, she looked at Robbie and smiled: so this is the girl that has managed to steal my sons heart, she has done what many girls have been trying to do for years. I knew the first day I saw her that she is capable of doing things that others can not.

Robbie looked at his mum and blushed, he couldn't stop his smile from spreading and revealing his dimples.

Robbie: so mum you like my choice?

Devika walked over to Robbie and touched his cheek: You always have made the right choice Robbie and even this time you have not let me down. Kasturi is a very nice girl. How did this happen Robbie? I don't remember seeing you guys together much in the office?

Robbie sat Devika down and explained everything to her. Finally Devika had something to be happy and smile about; she was very excited and wanted to meet Kasturi soon. Devika put Robbie and Kasturis picture together and stared at them with a satisfied feeling. Robbie watched his mother than took a deep breath and said: mum I have shared with you a special part of my life, you're the first person to find out about us, mum will you share with me, the real reason why you are always so upset?

Part 13: The past revealed

Devika looked up as tears welled in her eyes, she knew sooner or later everyone will find out but she never expected anyone to confront her about it. She looked at Robbie for a while than said: I know son there is no point lying or making excuses you are old enough to understand what is happening around you. I am pleased beyond words that you have found yourself a life partner and that you have thought of sharing your happiness with me. I wont ask you any personal questions about you and Kasturi, I won't interfere in your personal life, I don't know whether you want to marry each other or if you are ready to commit in that way yet but son as a women and a wife I will share with you one of life's biggest lessons that I have learned. Devika walked beside the lit fire place and looked at the family pictures on the wall.

Robbie: mum you have every right to ask me about my personal life, and yes Kasturi is the right girl for me, I can't imagine my life with out her, I want to marry her I want to make her your daughter in law.

Devika turned to look at Robbie: in that case I want to share this with both of you, I want Kasturi to know all about our family before she decides to become a part of it. Call her to come over.

Robbie looked on at Devika confused, but he saw the determination and tension on Devikas face, it was obvious Devika wanted to share something very important with both of them. Robbie stepped outside and called Kasturi. He told her that Devika knows about them and would like to see her, it wasn't that late in the evening, Kasturi made an excuse of visiting a friends place and headed towards Robbie's house. Kasturi was nervous but everything was happening so quick she did not have the time to stop and think of why Devika wants to see her and what she would say.

Robbie waited for Kasturi by the gates and brought her in, Devika was sitting in the living room holding a family picture in her hand. She got up as RoKa entered, she saw the nervous look on Kasturi's face, she walked towards her and said: I am so glad you have come Kasturi, I cant explain to you how delighted I am to know that Robbie has found such a beautiful and well cultured girl like you. I know you will keep my son very happy and he will do the same. Kasturi felt much better hearing Devikas words, she looked up at Robbie who gave her a reassuring look that everything will be okay.

Devika continued saying: you two are probably wondering why I have called you here and what I want to share with you, it is something that I have kept hidden from everyone ever since my wedding night. Devika looked at Kasturi, she held her hands and said: Kasturi I know you come from a middle class traditional family, your way of talking and behaving shows that you have always grown up around lots of people with a lot of love and care. Family means a lot to you which is why I want you to know about our family than decide if you want to be a part of it.

Devika took a deep breath and finally decided to talk about her past: I grew up in a rich family my granddad, dad, uncles all were owners of huge companies. They had built a good reputation and status in society through their hard work. My mother too came from an equally high status family. I was the eldest daughter, my parents pride and joy, they made sure there was nothing lacking in my upbringing and education. Everything had to be the best according to my father. Finally the day came for my marriage to be fixed, my father had found me the best bachelor in town, son of one of the most richest and successful man in Mumbai. Back then we did not meet in private, I saw Puru in family gatherings and before I knew it we had got married. I was excited and nervous at the same time about starting my new life with a man I hardly know, but I trusted my fathers choice and knew Purus family were nice. I sat in my room waiting for Puru to come, I ended up waiting until the early hours of the morning, Puru finally came and his first words to me were; 'there is something I need to tell you'. There I was a newly wedded bride waiting for my groom to come and finally when he does, he comes to tell me that he has a past, a past that he can never wipe away. Before the wedding Puru lived in America for a few years, he returned to India for our engagement, but he wasn't alone…..he came with his girlfriend and 6 month old daughter, Shivani. He kept them hidden from his family and me until our wedding night. Puru told me that he had only married me because of his family and his family's reputation, there is no way he can accept me as his wife, in the eyes of the world and our families we will be husband and wife but not in reality. He handed Shivani over to me and said his daughter will have to live with us as our daughter.

Puru left me alone in our room and I sat there the whole night wondering what I was going to do. I then realised that there was nothing I could do apart from accept this life, it would be best for everyone especially our families. Soon the whole family found out the truth, my parents left me and expected me to live with Puru despite him having a daughter and loving someone else. If word got out into the media than all these years of hard work would all be washed away. Shivani's mother, Yashoda would often come to visit her, no one spoke to her in the house.

Years went by in this manner, me and Puru never shared a proper husband wife relationship, he was finding it hard to forget his past and I was finding it hard to accept my present. Soon Puru took over the family Business he would spend most of the day at work. My motherly feelings started to develop for Shivani, I started to love her like she was my own. Yashoda left India and went back to America promising never to return, she wanted Shivani to have a secure future so she left her with us. Puru soon turned to alcohol to fill up his wounds. I remember very well the first time Shivani said 'maa', I was ecstatic I ran around the house spreading the news but I had no one to share my happiness with, I had accepted Shivani as my baby but the rest of the house was still unsure.

When Shivani was old enough to go to school, I too joined the family business and started working. Slowly me and Puru began building a friendly relationship, I knew Puru would never really love me but he still was my husband. They say times a great healer, it healed our wounds about the past. I started building new hopes for the future and thought of fulfilling all my dreams with Shivani. A few years later you were born Robbie, the best moment of my life, your arrival filled the house with all the lost happiness, you were welcomed with open arms by everyone. You were the heir to Sabarwal Industries. Robbie you came as a blessing from god for us, a gift for everyone; the son that Puru always wanted and the strength that I always needed. A few years later Alaana came along, our family was now complete.

Me and Puru still never shared a typical husband wife relationship but we remained together for the sake of our kids. I had decided Robbie that whatever happened in the past will not become a black shadow for my children, I have never thought of Shivani any different from you or Alaana, I may not have given birth to her but I did bring her up as my own as far as I am concerned she is my daughter.

A few days later Puru returned, I was fuming with anger, how could Puru be so selfish? I knew now there was nothing left in our already broken relationship, I tried my best to make it work but Puru kept messing up. I had enough of his behaviour now, we lived under one roof but like strangers, we only acted normal for the outside world and for you lot. We spent all our time at work, at home Puru would be always drinking leaving me behind to look after you 3 when you were not at boarding school.

Years went by, you lot started growing up and forging your own identity, that's when I took a cool breath thinking at least now I can live with out fearing the past catching up with us. But little did I know, I was never fated to have a happy family. One evening when you and Alaana were away studying in London, Shivani was going through some old papers in the study when she came across her original birth certificate, she had read it and found out that I was not her biological mum.

All hell broke loose in the house, Shivani has an anger just like Puru, once there off there is no calming them down. She was not ready to accept the truth the only thing she believed was that I came in between her parents and drove her mother away. She finally concluded that I don't love anyone but myself, she accused me of sending you lot away to boarding school to keep you away from me, I tried my best to explain that I sent you away from the problems in the house, each night that you lot spent way from the house I cried myself to sleep, it was the only way I could protect you from seeing me and Puru fall apart. I did not want you lot to find out that mine and Puru's relationship had broken before it even started. There was no stopping Shivani, she did not want to understand anything, Puru stood there and watched the scene with out uttering a word. Finally Shivani left home.

I cried for days, begged Shivani to come back I even begged Puru to bring her back but to no avail. Soon you and Alaana returned home, I was scared you will find out but till this day I still do not know why Shivani never told you the real reason she left home. She told Alaana that she wanted to live on her own, but I know deep down Alaana knows there is more to it and blames me for everything that has happened even though she does not know the truth. Robbie you soon left again to do your MBA and came back to find Shivani had married Rauank with out her parents consent, and Alaana was about to marry Nikhil. Seeing the situation at home you never asked any questions, I noticed how you immersed yourself heavily into your work. I was always worried but never found the right words to come and talk to you, I did not know what to say where to start from but I am glad that finally I have told you everything about the past.

Devika looked at RoKa who were standing there stunned listening to her tell them about the past, Robbie could not believe his mother had gone through so much pain all on her own. Kasturi walked up to Devika and put her arms out, for the first time in many years Devika had embraced someone and cried her heart out, Kasturi let her take out all her sorrows, Robbie let silent tears drop down his cheeks as he watched his mother for the first time in his life break down like this emotionally. Now he understood why Devika was always so cold and strict towards people, why she always kept herself busy with work, why she never let anyone see her tears and why she always argued with Puru. Kasturi wiped Devikas tears and sat her down, Devika asked both RoKa to sit beside her.

Devika: Robbie I was always concerned you would turn out like your father, you have all his qualities but I am glad that you don't have a heart like his. I have told you both about the past so that everything is clear to you, I always wanted a daughter that would be just like me deep down- sweet girl with a soft homely heart and today I have found her. Robbie I am proud that you have chosen Kasturi and I have full faith in you that you will soon join our family together. Kasturi I will be waiting eagerly for that day when you will enter our house and make it a family home just like I have always dreamt of.

Devika took Robbies hand in hers and said: Robbie promise me son that you will always treat Kasturi with love and respect, never take advantage of her and always put her wishes and hopes first.

Robbie: I promise mum

Devika kissed both RoKa on their foreheads and gave them her good wishes.

Devika: okay Robbie its getting late drop Kasturi home and call the driver to come and pick me up.

All the way to Kasturis house both RoKa were silent they were thinking of what Devika had said. Kasturi noticed Robbie fighting back his tears and trying hard to concentrate on driving. She asked him to stop half way and got out the car. Robbie was a bit confused and followed Kasturi out of the car. Kasturi stood in front of Robbie and said: Its okay Robbie you can cry and let it all out

Robbie grabbed Kasturi into his arms and held her tight. They promised to hold each other together like this for the rest of their lives.

Hey Everyone, since most of my readers have been asking why Shivani is so rude to Devika and what the secret is i have decided to reveal it in this part, hope everyone liked it and its not turned out too filmy 😆 I did not have much scope to add a lot of RoKa scenes- i will make up for it in the next parts 😉
