OK...guys...one more post for the weekend...The topic is...Is IPKKND really a different kind of Soap?
So we all ead the article in HT or in DH announcing that there is something strange going on the TV world...A new breed of soaps is making its place ...capturing people who don't typically watch serials including many professional women...and so on... and we all felt great because some where it describes us, captures the segment many of us belong to...
But is IPKKND really that different? We now see that
  • It has similar plot of heroine being misunderstood...and has to face undesirable consequeneces...at least consequeneces in undesirable fashion...
  • It has high amount of family drama with lots of crying and family politics..
  • It has a hero who reacts more emotionally than rationally at important ocasions...
  • It has a heorine...who is expolited at multiple angles...now there is a talk about more abuse too...

So is it really that different? Or more aptly...is it really going to be that different? The highest climber in TRP ...as show called DAB...acording to my mom shows the heroine getting abused by her MIL and it is doing very well with that polt...so have the creatives succumbed to that and taking IPKKND in that direction? Can't speak for everyone...but what attracted me to IPKKND...is
  • A hero who could make decisions for himself and not under teh pressure from his family who believed in what he believed in for good reason...with n ability to think rationally...
  • A heroine who refused to be a "crying exploited one" and proved the hero wrong when he tried to cross the line...in every single challenge that he put up...Claed every single misconception he had and made him a "believer"...
  • A family who was understanding and supportive...and not dramatic...(leave alone Garima)...

What never worked is Shyamu's story ...which is completely baseless...and beats any logic...

Please share your thoughts and opinions...

Story/Plot is not an extraordinary one. Its pretty much the same run of the mill story. But in Indian TV when its the time of hero and Heroine to kiss and make up, the evil Mother in law makes an entry to prolong the show for another year.

Popular ideas to drag a show or make it a super hit is always the same path. Evil M-I-L, Crying and ever sacrificing Women , A female vamp , Coconut type hero:Hard shell from outside with a heart of gold, blah, blah, blah. Its a very good time to switch over from IPK to another show if all of these ideas are put to use herr.

Definitely even if its a cliched plot but the execution is unique with the actors doing a fabulous job, then we will continue watching the show.

HI Sush. IS IPKKND is different soap ? Its a love story about 2 cross starred individuals ( whatever that means) .
Well at least thats what is started with till comedy and high drama was added to the mix. . The basic plot of a love story is standard girl meets boy , fall in love till something comes their way to tear them apart and after a lot of trials and tribulations true love always wins. The plot is so cliched and done over and over again through centuries so what should be so different about this one.For me it has to be the characterisation, the journey of the lovers, the treatment of the sub plots and finally how well you identify with the pain and happiness of the protagonist. And this is where I find IPK distinctive.
What attracted me to to IPK was a simple yet strong female lead. A happy girl who is looks at the world in one dimension. But Sush doesn't she need to grow up ? There is a cruel world out there and there is no easy way to learn the ways of the world. Is the show pushing her to a standard rona-dhona bahu mode ? They want you to think that instead you will find a much stronger girl rise out of this situation with her original joie-la-vivre intact. She will be thrown to the extreme end to be able to bounce back again and that is her nature... to always bounce back.
What attracted me to IPK was this angst ridden individual who had no valid reason to be so cruel to this girl yet pushed her every step of the way. So reluctant to trust even his own love for the girl that at the very first test he thinks the worst of her and pushes her away. His wears this mask of a strong man behind this boy who has not grown up . His complete mistrust of the world and no belief system whatsoever this mask had to slip one day as you can run and hide but never hide from your past . It has to be confronted and he too needs to grow up. And this is where he is right now. He too is thrown at an extreme end where he thought he could control each and every situation is being challenged . He is to find his equilibrium between that battle of dimaag & dil which I am finding rather interesting.
This to me is the different part. Arnav & Khushi.
As for the journey Sush it too has been so bumpy and i have enjoyed nearly all of it . their fights , squabbles, their tender moments just about everything . The backdrop lately has been The Family and sacrifices each is making for them so much that it has started to look as a family drama but where could the story have gone if their love story did not mesh back with the family. The charm of this show is the strong chemistry between the leads and as far as they preserve their basic characterisation I have no reason to believe that this show is not different from the rest. If indeed the show makers wish to take it to a saas-bahu path or the 24*7 sacrifice & rona dhona path then the show makers will be digging their own grave.
Remember Khsuhi is that girl who starts to make jalebis when her mother taunts her about her being adopted and Arnie is the one who gets what he wants and grabs her arms and opens her hair as his birth right . Where would you see this happening ? Both are currently going thru a rough patch. let them and enjoy it. If other shows do it better and differently then maybe I have missed a lot of desi televeison and not given credit where it was deserved. I will continue to trust my instinctive love for this show and will not doubt it till teh day I am comvinced it has become like the top 2 TRP shows of India.
The show may not be trully unique but it has grabbled my heart and that is unique in itself.
Let me know what you think. Take care Sush

For me what IPKKND brings in is not an unusual story but unpredictable situations within a predictable storyline. They always bring in some element of surprise in the scenes. That's what attracts me to the soap as also the fact that we have two leads who are very similar( strong individuals and though they are young their families depend on them a lot) yet so different (one is the last word in his family and the other does EVERYTHING in the background without getting the respect she deserves). And of course the chemistry and acting skills of the lead pair unlike anything I've seen in Indian soaps. Hence no need of melodramatic bg music or multiple camera shots to depict an emotional scene. Can you imagine in any other serial where the male protagonist finds the female protagonist in the arms of the antagonist and the entire scene is focused on the actor's facial close up and nothing else? Very mature. These are what to me sets it apart from the run of the mill soaps which I can't sit down even for 5 mins to watch.

I like the show because of its actors..and how most the time the story is true to its characters...
I am part of corporate world.. and I have seen many rational people making irrational decisions under pressure...! I have also seen my own family members outbursts...it happens and then it cools downs..
I am sure Khushi will not be a cry baby.. .. there are phases in every persons life... I can't believe myself now... but I was a crybaby after my marriage for about 6 months... because of the sudden changes But I recovered...In my opinion Khushi will definately not be the crying bahu... If she is then I will skip the show..
CV's have invested 8 months to build the characters... which we love that;s why we watch the show. It is wrong to judge those based on 1 or 2 episodes.. I would atleast give a month... the real story has just began...!!

The first thot that came to my mind when I saw nominations for best jodi as well as the promos with Arshi is whether the CVs have given in to SP's propoganda of typical bahu story..

The journey till La's exit was awesome.. even till the misunderstanding was okay.. but thats when these promos came and I've decided to wait and watch for the next couple of weeks to see what direction the CVs take the story to.

The lead actors make a lot of difference to this show and direction to some extent too..(editing is bad), but end of the day it has to be the storyline.

I can see a crying lead max for a week, but let it be for a reason and not some idiotic same storyline as every other serial. After 12 hours of work, I am not interested to come home to watch 2 leads crying no matter how amazing they act, look or been directed.

Sush...

Completely on the same page as you.

What drew me to this serial was the the M & B type of story and the characters of the leads...I was very happy to see the fiery, spunky Khushi who fought back the unfair situations thrown at her, and appreciated the way they showed ASR helplessly falling for that very girl who dared to rock his boat...
And of course, Baruna and Sanaya's spectacular acting and pairing.

The thing is that I am so addicted to this serial, my one and only Hindi one, that no matter what they dish out, I watch it.

The wedding track has just started...I am waiting to see how they handle it.
Unfortunately, things like TRPs, channel interference etc will be the major deciding factors...creative and novel story telling often takes a backseat...nothing can be done about that.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that they maintain the spark and the USP of this show - Arhi and their unique rishta...and keep the kitchen politics and saas bahu drama minimal and restricted to the supporting cast only...not holding my breath on that though!!

Now IPKKND is not different at all - it is being turned into family politics plus active villain piece. So it no longer is a 'love story' and it's hero heroine are no longer 'leads'. ASR looks positively like a coward in marrying Kh (6 months - when we ALL know she is here to stay and they will make up in no time!) and Kh looks like a complete idiot for not questioning ASR as to WHY he wants to force a wedding on her of all people when she does not even want to.

This is what happens in idiotic lame been there-done that serials and IPKKND has managed to succumb to that. Somewhere Ekta Kapoor is laughing her heart out...Fine, distant/angry husbands work, unconsummated relationships shoot TRPs thru the roof, drama and misunderstanding sell - but I had hoped IPKKND to be different - I guess we were all fooled!

One thing is for sure - NO ONE will be going crazy on Lalit Mohan's facebook page a few months from now and this show WILL NOT BE no.1 in it's time slot a few months from now - once leads get married it's hard to keep viewer interest - after all ASR will bed Kh sooner or later and no matter what 'past' bad memory is brought up at that time - it won't matter any more - cos the audience would have seen what they wanted to see all along - A HAPPY LOVING IN-LOVE ASR & KH.
