What a beautiful analysis and right on the points. Kesar without Gulaal and Gulaal without Kesar while possible and probable is nonetheless unimaginable. They are like two puzzles that fits neatly together, and the show ultimately has always been about this two. Vasant was like a traveller just passing through Gulaals life, memorable but not the destination.

Kesars characterisation has close similarities with that of HeathCliff's.
Actually Mangal from the original novel has nothing to do with Kesar.
I think the CV's have done a keen analysis of HeathCliff's character before shaping Kesar's.
I doubt ever we get a hero cum anti-hero lead in indian tv and that through a potential actor like Neil.

To both the parts in bold - 👏 👏 👏 - now that is the kind of musing discussion I was really hoping we'd have! Excellent parallel Reemz and excellent character sum up for Kesar alanta!

Interestingly, while Kesar himself innately portrays a hero-cum-anti hero essence, Gulaal can easily be taken for the goody-two-shoes girl with no such grey. The change of dynamics is completely a consequence of their advent in each others lives. I think what makes them true soul mates, is not just how they bring peace to each other, but even more so by the way they can shake up the peace in each others life! A figurative understanding of Heathcliff digging up the grave to embrace her last remains has always had this one tangent of his never quite becoming capable of letting her soul rest in peace!

In a way - Kesar and Gulaal do that to each other. Kesar doesn't meet Gulaal for a decade, by his own decision to distance, but his battle between her betrayal and her honesty never lets him be - in striving to hate her, he only depends more and more on her presence each day! Gulaal could have lived her life with Vasant - peaceful, and happy if he had never died. Gulaal could have also lived her life peacefully in a limbo, as she created for herself, after Vasant was murdered ... but Kesar would always come to shake it up - both her peaceful seeming existence with Vasant, and the pretense of peace without him! Kesar shakes her up, ruffles her feathers, gets under her skin like no one else. Even when all he wants to do is give her peace and happiness, his presence crawl beneath her skin - and not even physically! there is so much power which they exert over each other!

Basically - minus of each other, both Kesar and Gulaal may have led lives of far greater routine, peace and decorum. But they would have been lives unfulfilled, because they would have both eventually lived to their comfort potential of being 'good' without anyone ever stepping in to shake up their peace and extract the better than good they had in them! The way they bring out each others true colors, is rarely through imposing peace of happiness, but far more through angst and hurt - and yet, minus of each other, their peace is rather empty... monotonically devoid of its soul - and in that essence of being soulmates but not implicit peacemakers, they tend to become hero-cum-anti hero characters to each other... especially Kesar, even all by himself...

Totally - Kesar's greatest rest and unrest is all about Gulaal. This entire Heathcliff reference reminds me of the phase when Gulaal left the house after he professed his love... specially the night scene when he's tormented, and ultimately ends up at her door.

There are always tall claims of how true love is about striving for the happiness of your love, with or without her/him - but Kesar in the true sense defies whatever that rule is about! When he's doing things the wrong way - he shakes her up brutally like the times in was in the tantrum mode to get Gulaal to comply ... when he does it right, he still manages to shake her up in the sense of an awakening... because their souls connect in a way, that even when he voluntarily follows the love rule book and decides to do everything her way, for her happiness, including letting her go - she really can't escape his essence in her life! Which brings her to candid confessions like her anjaani wish of getting to stay in the house and never have to leave! A wish, that without her realization, is not about the house, not about the family - but only about Kesar!

While he tends to become the cause of every unrest in her comfortable limbo of ten years ... he is also, her only means to true sense of lasting peace.

Reemz, You mean Kesar was in love with Gulaal even when he was a kid, even when he couldnt understand its meaning????? and what he realised just now. 😊
[/quote]

Yes he's always been in love with her. She was his love, obsession, passion and devotion ever since their attachment begun. Obviously over the years, he became a man so the physical attraction automatically came in to place.

Oh totally!! Sorry, was reading my post back and I think I did not word it properly😕 GK were meant to be and that is what I meant by destiny. The DV was sort of like the stage setting for the story to unfold. So basically I meant that for Gulaal the DV happened due to the circumstances at that time. She stepped into it consciously with the intent of protecting Kesu...nothing more. Like I said, Gulaal loved Vasant but she shares a deep, emotional bond with Kesu as well. There is no doubt that it was always supposed to be Gulaal and Kesar and everything that happened in their lives - good or bad, were just moments and situations that were somehow supposed to bring them together ultimately.

I don't think Gulaal has ever seen Kesu an an obligation. I have always felt that Gulaal has been in love with Kesu for a long time now its just that she has shut her eyes and her heart to such emotions but soon enough we will get to see these feelings begin to bubble up. I can't wait to see how the CV's show us that moment of realization for Gulaal...I wonder what that moment will be like and can you imagine Kesu's expression when he realizes that his Gulaal is actually in love with him...???😍

Well said.👏 Without each other, they most probably would lead a much more peaceful life but it would remain very much incomplete. They add this whole new dimension to each other which would cease to exist if they hadn't met.

'"People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that's what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life."

Without the other, Gulaal and Kesar would be like a treadmill...simply walking/running without actually moving towards a goal.

Oh the awareness of how soon we will get that scene is such a bittersweet emotion! Sigh! 😍 I shall never get over saying how very much I love this show!

Anjali - I think you need to make more VMs than just on the weekends - would you entertain requests?! There are 119 VMs according to Geesha's collection, and I feel like I've seen them many times over - especially my favorites!
