- Do you think its still lip service in terms of rights of a girl child or have we made some progress?
- Does education broaden our horizons enough to really not discrimate on basis of gender?
Sorry for the long post...I got carried away!😛
I will answer in general!
it depends on individuals, not all Indians, and in my case all Pakistanis would crave for a boy. I know many in my friend and relative circle who wished for daughters and they were super excited when their wishes come true. my parents are one of them. my mom, who normally doesnt tell me in words how much she cares about me, said in discussion that she actually prayed for a daughter, and so did my father. and they always wanted more daughters then sons. (but they got only one daughter and two sons, but they are already looking forward for the two bahus hehe)
its not about education, as education serve nothing when it comes to issues like these. it is about open mindness or not, and from my experience, education doesn't promote open mindness, it can give you awareness but wont change your views 100%. it is normally how you view it. My best friend is always have a disadvantage coz she is a girl, if you say education can improve things, then both her parents are CAs, and have traveled around the world and worked with many big companies and what not. but their mentality that boy has all the freedom, coz one day he will be the bread maker is still there. and as for my friend, first she was given a goal to do CA, and now that she is working on it, she is been forced to get married, coz she is a girl, and girls are supposed to get married early.
gender discrimination might not end fully, coz this is not only in South Asia, but in western society too. where women are given lessor salary then men for the same amount of work and position.
its an on going fight.............
