I jus want to know the real real views about "MY CHOICE". This is not about Deepika, take out Deepika out of equation. That's why Iam not posting the video, but only transcript.

My body, my mind, my choice

To wear the clothes I like; even if my spirit roams naked

My choice; to be a size 0 or a size 15

They don't have a size for my spirit, and never will

To use cotton and silk to trap my soul is to believe that you can halt the expansion of the universe

Or capture sunlight in the palm of your hand

Your mind is caged, let it free

My body is not

Let it be

My choice

To marry, or not to marry

To have sex before marriage, to have sex out of marriage, or to not have sex

My choice

To love temporarily, or to lust forever

My choice

To love a man, or a woman, or both

Remember; you are my choice, I'm not your privilege

The bindi on my forehead, the ring on my finger, adding your surname to mine, they're all ornaments and can be replaced

My love for you cannot, so treasure that

My choice; to come home when I want

Don't be upset if I come home at 4am

Don't be fooled if I come home at 6pm,

My choice; to have your baby or not

To pick you from 7 billion choices or not

So don't get cocky

My pleasure might be your pain

My songs, your noise

My order, your anarchy

Your sins, my virtues

My choices are like my fingerprints

They make me unique

I am the tree of the forest

I am the snowflake not the snowfall

You are the snowflake

Wake up

Get out of the shit storm

I choose to empathise

Or to be indifferent

I choose to be different

I am the universe

Infinite in every direction

This is my choice

so, I didn't find any mistake in this. Then why it is bashed so much?

PS:Once again I insist, this is not about Deepika. Please don't post comments about Deepika

I will not blame Dipla as she was just an model for this video, unless it was her concept. plus she seems like a okay okay type of person who will never protest in the face. On top of that she is bit dumb.
But I have the beef with "sex outside marriage" bit. No dear cheating should not be tolerated whether boy or girl or same sex lovers. cheating your partner is not cool, whether in name of feminism or patriarchal. My choice is good as long as you are not hurting someone else. Also sometimes it is good to sacrifice for your loved ones, my choice is good as long as you don't hurt someone.

Also one thing I have understood in this forum is, no body cares about this line: "To wear the clothes I like; even if my spirit roams naked". Go to any Ranveer or recent Priyanka meets Modi thread. Also the my choice when to come home is the worst. Bhai you marry a person, or be in relationship and than demand him to not get upset if you spent most of the time without him. I would like to see how would a person react if the same thing was said by a male. See two wrongs don't make right. A men does wrong it is wrong, a woman does wrong, it is also wrong not feminism. If you are committed to any relationship you have to make adjustments, compromises and sacrifices. With the power of choosing comes the responsibility. And this video was more like the writer and directing trying to please one spectrum of the feminists while forgetting about the basic human responsibility which has nothing to do with gender. A man drinks and come home to create tension is wrong, so it is true for a woman. A man f**ks around despite being in a relationship, it is terrible, so it is true for a woman. A man neglects his wife/partner, it is terrible, so it is for a woman. Gender equality means equal rights and equal punishment for both. A wife's equal right is not when she also like her husband goes out at night, neglecting her duties towards her family. It is when the husband comes home at time, and helps her with the household chores, and tell her "baby it is okay, you can have night out with your friends, but please come home at time, I will have my dinner and do the dishes. " Anyways this will go on and on, so this is my first and last post in this thread.

This video has the most polarizing opinions on it.
Some people were not okay with feminism equalling- my choice- for women tone of the video. What spurred that opinion was that Deepika (a woman) was in the video. Vogue's fault. I believe they wanted- my choice- as a universal track, but the video was centered around a woman instead.

Some were not okay with- sex outside marriage. Again Vogue's fault. Basic english gayi tel lene. It's almost like they invited trouble. What they meant (hopefully) is - having sex before marriage. But the connotation came out to be- extramarital affairs.

But the criticism for this line is fair. "To love temporarily or lust forever". Replace Deepika with a guy in the video and make it male-centric. Then imagine the left, right, and center bashing it would receive. It just sounded like this is okay because of feminism, women empowerment, but wrong in the name of menism.

Otherwise, this was a powerful video. Wish Kalki was in it too.

I accept that sex outside marriage is a wrong thing to say. But, @bold

My choice; to come home when I want

Don't be upset if I come home at 4am

Don't be fooled if I come home at 6pm,

I am a working woman and my shift timing is 9 hours only, but bcoz I am in IT, I work almost 12 or 13 hours at least twice in a week. That is what being said in the video I think. And, do u think if a girl is coming home by 6pm, she is a sati savitri and not doing any wrong?

^ you both are right because that is your POV. Everyone views things differently.
This video failed in the sense they left it open to interpretation forgetting that there is a diverse demographic watching it.

Of course a debate around the issues women deal with is important. Suppression has been a real thing. Questioning our choices over everything has been quite an ordeal for us.
But at the same time we are progressing as a society. Not everyone is regressive.

Such videos should come with a statutory warning like suitable for viewing since our target audience is:
- feminists
-21st century is here but you remain regressive af
-Men who question women over everything but want to be held unaccountable themselves.
- oversensitive, entitled assholes who just want to hate on everything pro women.

Or a cautionary tale like:

If you are pro feminist, understand equal rights, treat everyone with basic respect, don't question anyone's choices then don't mistake our delirious word play for- women are above all sins and everyone cus- it is their choice.

Anyway the only reason I didn't like the video much is because the direction was scary. Kthx.

That is what you think, what I think about that line I have already explained in detail. I never talked about the job timing thing, as that is a totally different thing compared to what I am talking about.

As for your conclusive questions, no. I never talked about what time a woman should come at home, I talked about how a woman/man should not neglect family duties just because they want to enjoy life.

^^ "My choice; to come home when I want Don't be upset if I come home at 4am" They are connected, TM bringing up job timings is relevant here.
You'd know about the double standards applied to a woman who returns home at light night. Salacious rumours go around by neighbours about the line of her work, while those close to her don't approve because of the 'risks'. My interpretation was that she wanted to go home at whatever time, but didn't need people getting upset or judging her for that. Fair enough.

It is HER choice to have sex out of marriage. Nothing wrong with that. And it is YOUR choice if you still want to be with her or leave her for that reason.
