And the choice is very narrow here. Anushka and Sonam not Ash or Madhuri..I feel Anu excels only one type of character and Mastani is certainly out of her reach because it required a lot of action sequence + screen presence and a gorgeous beautiful face and I think DP is ahead of her in all these departments...

A film is a team work and director is the captain of the ship and the star is the face of his vision. So the biggest chunk of credit is obviously reserved for the director. In the same way he has the same contribution to RS and PC's acting as well. But here we are discussing the star not the directors so obviously Deepika will get the credit</font></font>

I disagree completely- there were TWO big actresses in Pinga and yet it didn't work. While songs like DJ waale babu Aur zinghat from Sairat got the seetis & taalis despite having no bigs stars. Not taking anything from what a good job Deepika did at Deewani Mastani, I do not agree she was the only reason why it got seetis & taalis, it was the song which made it what it is and the Grand way with how SLB directed the entry of Deepika in the song. Take that out, and Deepika even with her screen presence wouldn't be able to do nothing. Nagada was again SLB, and Lovely was another Sheila & Chikni what else do you expect? Fevicol & mera naam mary got the seetis & taalis too, despite Bebo doing a shit job at it, because it's the songs what made them popular.

These stars can do NOTHING without a good song, its the other way stars cannot do anything without these songs. That is why these days even flop films with newcomers have popular songs! And that is why today big stars interfere to say what songs to take in the movie, and which will work.

A good act >>>> than pretty face, screen presence yada yada. It's what makes a character a iconic. DP's deewani Mastani is NOT equal to BM. At the end of the day it's PC and RS who're remembered for their good performances in BM while DP only has a Deewani Mastani to boast about.
And TBH from when Mastani became iconic? I have no idea 😆 From what I remember , members and critrics expressed their dispaoointment in her performance. I am yet to finish the movie but from whatever I saw, she actually had a blank expression all through out to show how enchanted she was by Bajirao, not to mention the dialogue delivery.

Deepika Padukone according to me performs the weakest amongst the three stars. Even though she plays the lead, there are a lot of flaws in her act. Sure she looks beautiful but completely lacks the grace while performing on numbers such as Mohe Rang Do Laal. Her body language is too modern to embrace the charm of Mastani. In one of the scenes, her dialogue delivery is so weak that she sounds exactly like one of her dialogues from Tamasha.
