The body of Zubeen Garg arrived at Guwahati Airport. It arrived in the Air India flight XI 1197 around six am. His wife Garima Saikia and a number of people had gone to bring the mortal remains to his home in Kahilipara. She broke down seeing the coffin, as she placed a Gomasta over it. In one of the most emotional visuals, we could see the airport staff crying over the coffin. Police officers too were in tears as the mortal remains were being brought to his home. The Government had prepared an ambulance adorned with flowers. Thousands of fans stayed up the whole night at the airport. The body will be kept at the Sarusajai Stadium for public tributes.
People have also gathered outside his home in Kahilipara. A flower carpet has been made for him. The singer truly lived in the heart of every Assamese citizen. This is also proof of how he brought the entire community together. Shops are closed, exams postponed as Government declares two days of mourning. Zubeen Garg was a close friend of Assam CM, Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Zubeen Garg’s final journey is giving us visuals, which we have hardly seen in recent times. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma posted that he lived like a king, and is being sent to the heavens like one. Fans stayed up all night singing his songs outside his home. The singer did not pursue a career in Bollywood and instead chose to work from his hometown of Assam. He has sung in a number of languages. In fact, his rendition of Eric Clapton’s classic Tears In Heaven is also very good.
Zubeen Garg, a people's icon
People of Assam are carrying placards and shouting Zubeen Da Amar Houk all over. It should be noted that he always supported the genuine concerns of Assamese people. Many described him as a man with a spine, someone who did not hesitate to rebel.
Zubeen Garg's body was brought by an Air India flight to Borjhar Airport in Guwahati. It seems the coffin did not fit into the chartered flight. His wife Garima Saikia was there at the airport, and broke down seeing his remains. The couple got married in 2002. Zubeen Garg's body will be kept at Sarusajai Stadium for public to pay homage one last time.
