Wish u cud of made thread for movie alone not character... i would have talked about it whole day...

Chalo koi na... My most fav. Salman's Romantic Movie.....

Sameer (Not me Salman) 😛😆::

Young, full of life, passionate for Music fall in love with Nandini, as he finds her perfect in every way. Story of the movie starts with Sameer coming to learn music from Italy. Now such a amazing passion for music, that guy travel from Saat Samunder just to learn indian music. Love the scene where Darbar Saab ask Sameer to show his talent in music... at 1st he showed funny side as he might not know music... but in end the way he picked up the Surr... oye balle balle ho gi ji... The purpose for his arrival was at last fulfilled. Pandit Darbar Saab agree to teach him music by saying "Bhookha pet se gaata hai, Sacha dil se, aur tum dil se gaate ho isliye main tumhe apna sangeet sikhaounga"... Sameer says "Aaj mere baba bahut khush honge (the way he talks with his late dad in whole movie is adorable)...

Now from here only the reasons for Sameer's Immaturity part or some says Cowardness for not showing courage in taking nandini with him 2 italy was formed when Sameer Ask Darbar Saab "Aapki fees", Darbar Saab says "Mera Sangeet bikau nahi, Gurudakshana jaroor lunga waqt aane pe, shayad na bhi loon".

Sameer & Nandini's love affair didn't have started at that point when Darbar Saab took Sameer's promise or Gurudakshna thing. If Sameer would have known about this kind of Gurudakshna, he would have given his passion for music for his love (This i feel).

After that they fall in love... Sameer had never thought that there would be condition at some point where he have to chose between giving respect to a promise given to a Gal's Dad & the gal herself whom he love so much. There was no problem or bad characteristics in Sameer for which Pandit Darbar without considering just asked him to leave & getting promise not to have any relation with Nandini.

People forget here that Afte Sameer went away from home, he wrote letters to Nandini, as he doesn't want to leave without telling her whole thing, plus he expected her 2 take the step as he was bound to promise. Also, a Gal always wish n expect that they guy she love or marry should respect her parents even more than her, here Sameer did the exact thing, even on breaking nandini's heart for that moment. What else nandini could have expected from the guy whom she loves.

Sameer was not immature nor coward, First Nandini's dad n then their servant didn't passed the letters he wrote to Nandini, he was right to her parents n was waiting for her. Situations came in between n Nandini got married to Vanraj.

Vanraj was just the ordinary sweet boy next door kind of character who was spell bounded by Nandini's beauty for the 1st time when he saw her. Arrange marriage, he fall in love with her. Vanraj as a husband became Special & different the moment he got to know about his wife's love for someone else & he decided to take her to him. That kind of character in real life is very very rare, hardly we can tolerate our gf talking to someone else, here a husband who can forcibly or by any other mean can shut her wife down as no need 2 go to other man. OutStanding initiative he took for which his wife realized at the end as "Pyaar Nibhana maine apne Pati se seekha hai".

Sameer, Nandini, Vanraj, nobody's fault, just 2 things came in between & 3 lives were affected.

I watched this movie once and vowed to NEVER watch it again. I think I was more heartbroken then Sameer when Nandini chose Vanraj over him. Tadap Tadap Ki MY DIL! I was rooting for Sameer and Nandini through and through. Blame my biased heart for liking Salman Khan. I could never fathom how Nandini's father could actually force her daughter to marry despite the fact that she even slit her wrist at the end of the Tadap Tadap song. Like HELLO, your daughter just attempted suicide mate, don't ya think she's not exactly ready for a forced marriage at the moment?

Sometimes I tend to forget that I'm watching a movie that is fictional. Which is why it makes no sense when I mentally create pathways that could have consequently led to a happy ending. Sameer could have defied all the rules and eloped with Nandini. He could have stood up to her father and sung his proposal to him (To impress the old man of course). Similarly (Off topic), Paro could have ran a bit bloody faster. She could have also held her tongue before screaming out a random mans name (DEVA) in her husbands house. Instead, she could have taken the news of his almost demise quite calmly, nodded her head and slowly walked down the grand staircase. Then when the doors were in close proximity, run for ya bloody life!

*Sigh* But since the topic is on HDDCS. I am a hopeless crappy romantic at heart that likes it when first true love finds a way to live happily ever after. I also wanted to see a change. Instead of being compelled to accept your husband and to sacrifice your love for the sake of upholding societies expectations, I wished that Nandini and Sameer would stand up and fight against the rules.

Thank you for reinforcing my decision to NEVER watch this movie again.

^ what you said above my sentiments exactly, breaking norms, the movie could have but it was based on a novel but since its the directors movie he could have changed the story ..and made a bold statement that love concurs all..here it was too predictable..and to keep sensibilities intact SLB didnt take a bold move ..which he could have..and instead gave us a unrealistic ending ..

I think SLB could never take a bold move. Either he has lived a frustrating love life or he simply does not want the audience to be happy. Granted, if Sameer was shown as to being a shady character then the ending of this movie would make sense. But he was actually a nice person and Nandini was very much in love with him. I'd say Nandini started to feel compassion and a form of affection for her husband but not the same passionate kind of love she felt for Sameer.

ANNND this is where everything about the movie pisses me off. Why can't a female character be shown to be strong enough to CHOOSE love over responsibilities for a change!

It is India. Even in modern times I think Bollywood still has an archaic and old fashioned notion about love and romance. Marriage, duty, tradition, culture etc. supersede love and other interests. Eventually, everyone "settles" for good, traditional and safe rather than chasing dreams or romances.

But things are changing – I really liked movies like Jab We Met, Tanu Weds Manu, Aisha because they have headstrong unconventional female protagonists who defy traditions. Their likability is not in the fact that they bend to conform, but their non conformity to convention is what makes them likeable.

And although it wasn't a romance – one movie that really beautifully shows a woman choose herself over her husband is Astitva. The woman has an extra-marital affair but you genuinely feel for her. And after everything is said and done she doesn't apologize and go back to her usual life, she gathers the courage to leave her husband.

Agreed. I don't understand why I still expect a difference when Indian movies and dramas are constantly trying to uphold the notion of being a dutiful, traditional and cultural daughter, wife, sister, mother and hell even grandmothers aren't spared. I have watched Jab We Met and Aisha and I loved them both. What a breath of fresh air those movies turned out being. I have yet to watch Tanu Weds Manu or Astitva so I'll reserve my comments for the time being.

The movie 'Provoked' is also a good example of a woman attempting to fight against the preposterous notion that a traditional married woman must tolerate every injustice and cruelty in order to save face from being targeted as a 'fallen disobeying woman'. I'm not supporting violence but damn I did a huge fist shake and a booty dance when Aish retaliated.

I think Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna also 'tried' to break the norms and expectations of Indian movies. But the storyline didn't settle well with me.
