Actor Dia Mirza and singer Rahul Vaidya have reacted strongly to the recent Mumbai metro pillar collapse, raising concerns over infrastructure safety in the city. The incident occurred after a portion of a parapet from an under construction metro bridge fell onto an autorickshaw. One person lost their life and three others sustained serious injuries. The accident has triggered anxiety among residents and renewed questions about construction standards and monitoring.

Taking to X, Dia Mirza questioned the direction of urban development. She wrote, “What idea of infrastructure do you support?” She further added, “One that kills, suffocates, and destroys health and life? Or One that cares for and values life?” Her remarks drew varied responses online. While some supported her concern for safety, others argued that overcrowding and daily rush also contribute to urban stress.

Rahul Vaidya also shared his unease on Instagram. Reacting to the collapse, he wrote, “I always get scared whenever I go under a metro bridge… trust me. This is exactly what I always fear!” His comment reflected a sentiment echoed by many commuters who pass through construction zones regularly.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished a quick recovery to those injured. The state government announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the victim’s family and assured that medical expenses of the injured would be fully covered.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority acknowledged the incident and termed it unfortunate. It urged citizens not to circulate unverified information and confirmed that a high level inquiry has been initiated. Authorities have imposed a fine of Rs 5 crore on the contractor and Rs 1 crore on the general consultants involved in the project.

An investigation into the collapse is currently underway. Officials have stated that strict action will be taken against those found responsible, as scrutiny intensifies over safety measures in large scale infrastructure projects across Mumbai.
