frankly if we go by novel they would nandini and sameer would meet after 30 yrs, when her children are all married and she has grandkids, also a lot of stuff happened in between, sameer tried to contact her in reality which were ommitted by SLB.

I love the movie since it gave some awesome music and shankar M was amazing in his classical self.

Was it based on a novel?

meera, agree and want to like your post my ipad not letting as net slow at work..and my reasoning as nothing todo with it being Salman as Sameer were some other actor playing the role i would have rooted on the same ending..

Because in Sajaan i was happy madz with Sanjay as she loved him/his poetrys..and he deeply her..but because Salman was his bro he gave her up and decided to help her get him..which was wrong and playing with her emotions ..but in the end she ended with whom she loved because she didnt love salman the person but the writer/poet..and they never be happy as how long could he pretend to be someone else..

Getting back to Sameer-Nanadi and
HDDS i agree Ajay was supporting and all..but to say Sameer was immature is silly he wanted to prove his worth, that he could make it and also not to disrespect her dad(who in my view was a ogre) and were i in his shoes i say screw the dads view, and marry her anyhow he wanted approval ..and she too could have told thatcshe didnt want to marry ajay because loved somone else..because basically she was ruining anothers person live..

And to think I actually believed SLB came up with that and for once it's not based on a novel!

well he changed bong to gujju, learning indology and sanskrit to learning music( you know coz its more bwish), romanian guy to italian born Indian, offcourse the novel is autobigraphical, means the gambhir pitaji would later have an affair and leave his wife, and kids destitute to live with a woman a few yrs older than his eldest daughter,
the daughter was a gifted girl like nandini blessed by tagore

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Na_Hanyate

as i said before, SLB's best works have been mutilating bong classics. Dedas he could not get off nbot giving credits but this one he happily did.

I felt really sad for Sameer when I first watch the movie. I really couldn't believe an indian movie could end like this. I was thinking it would get the same ending like every bollywood movie etc. But first time something happen I kinda didn't expect it. Because it was bright happy movie.

Only later i appreciate Nanandi decision and also understood it. And she was right.
This is one of mine favourite movie, it had everything.

One of the best love triangles Bollywood has churned out.

You could call Sameer cowardly or someone who showed respect to the father of the woman who he loved so much. Both Vanraj and Sameer were great characters, so different and even their one scene together was beautiful.

But going back to Vanraj. Yes he was selfless, yes he stood by Nandini but when did he fall in love with Nandini? When he saw her dancing (Nimbooda)...did he know the real her? No. Who did he fall in love with? He didn't KNOW Nandini so how did he become incapable of living without her?

Sameer on the other hand got to know the REAL Nandini. He saw the full of life Nandini, the one who laughed from the heart and didn't just instantly fall for her because of her looks (yes there was attraction but not love).
