Oh I don't have any provlem with discussing it. Its just that I have not seen anyone else discussing it.
If so, then how are actresses like Priyanka, Rani, Kajol, Deepika so famous?

Phew

even i think so ..... same goes to Ash.....eventhough she is good actress but still she is recognized for her beauty (fair skin n green eyes) rather than acting....

but that is not what makes her movies work....!
otherwise, they'll just take diya mirza... who supposedly (not my opinion, but i've heard, hence supposedly...) is prettier, younger, not an ice-maiden and acts better.... 😉😛😛

I'm sorry to say this and dont mind if I get a warning but I dont think you have the experience to understand a serious issue like this. There are bigger things in life than Kat.

My point was in India actress with fair skin are more popular and more widely accepted so much so that audience are ready to over look their lack of acting skills. Thats my opinion, you dont have to agree. But then dont make the overall issue related to skin colour sound like a forum gossip thing.

And this time Im seriously out, as this is an issue thats very sensitive to me.

Kat ... It is discussed bcoz color discrimination is common in India and since we are discussing Bollywood if someone feels that this issue is relevant there then its fine... naa...

what are u talking PC and deepika dont have lineage?

pc jumped into bollywood with her miss world tag in hand..and all those girls who were miss indias those days jumped in with their tags

deepika is prakash padukone's daughter..she had a bigtime stint with modelling and everything

i would say the malaika arora khan is self made inspite of being dark

skin color is a big issue..ive been in southern india all my life...eexcept the last 3 years..they wouldnt even give u the mike in a stage if u are not nice-looking enough

i had to tell them off how white skin obsessed hey were..the girl who handled was fair but useless with mikes but she was called repeatedly while the good ones were ignored

Just like there's discrimination on the basis of fair skin to play certain popular characters, there's also reverse discrimination when it comes to serious, performance oriented roles. Average lookers did make a space for themselves doing serious cinema and often regarded as good actors whereas the pretty/fair faces are called plastic, expressionless and whatnot. You can't escape criticism either way. In the end, if you have talent and heaps of luck, nothing matters.

I doubt industry was ever dominated by fair girls. If Kajol and Rani ruled latter part of the 90s then late 80s and early 90s were ruled by Sridevi and Madhuri. Before them it was Rekha and Hema Malini. Today there's hardly any female actor that's ruling the roost. Most of them are just part of big films.
