Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who made a name for herself in Bollywood, shifted her focus to Hollywood around 2015-2016. Now, a decade later, she's a major star in both worlds, and her Indian fans are excited about her potential Bollywood comeback. But her path to international fame hasn't been smooth. In a recent interview, Indian ad film director Prahlad Kakkar discussed the obstacles she faced and celebrated her success in the West.
Disadvantages Priyanka faced in her early days
Prahlad Kakkar, discussing Priyanka Chopra's early career and her victory at the 2000 Femina Miss India pageant, which led to her Miss World title, shared with Vickey Lalwani, Priyanka had huge disadvantages at that time. First, she was dark. Second, she had a bad skin. And she still does. Okay, so her skin had to be actually made up and covered. And then she was a strong-looking girl. She lost a lot of weight to look like the way she did in Dostana. She looked like a million dollars in Dostana. I mean, there’s no question about it. She had to work damn hard at it because she’s not a delicate-looking girl. She’s a big-boned girl. So you don’t, you’re not just losing weight on your flesh. You’re also having to deal with a skeleton.
How Priyanka moved to Hollywood
Prahlad then discussed how Priyanka moved abroad after the Indian film industry deemed her "too old" for young roles. The ad film director praised her for taking such a risk. You are getting big roles, you are getting parts, you are not top of the line anymore, and you decide, f**k it, I am going to restart my career again. How many people can do that?
Priyanka’s birthday post for Nick
Recently, Priyanka took to Instagram to share pictures along with an emotional note as Nick turned a year older. Taking to her Instagram handle, Priyanka shared a series of photos and wrote, “As we celebrate you today my love, I’m reminiscing, each of the wonderful September 16th’s I’ve been so lucky to spend with you over the years. so grateful to share life with you. We celebrate you everyday. here’s 2025-2018 !"
Priyanka’s work front
Priyanka Chopra's recent acting endeavors include her role in "Heads Of State," directed by Ilya Naishuller. Looking ahead, she is set to share the screen with Mahesh Babu for the first time in the tentatively titled film "SSMB29." Furthermore, she has been cast in "Krrish 4," the latest installment in the popular franchise, which also marks Hrithik Roshan's directorial debut. In another exciting project, the 42-year-old actress will portray a 19th-century Caribbean pirate in the upcoming swashbuckler action drama, The Bluff.
Prahlad Kakkar told Vickey Lalwani that Priyanka Chopra faced significant challenges early in her career, including her complexion and skin condition, which required extensive makeup. He noted her transformation, particularly the weight loss for "Dostana," highlighting her dedication. Kakkar emphasized that Chopra's success was hard-earned, as she isn't naturally delicate but rather has a larger frame, requiring considerable effort for her physical transformation.
