I don't need any celebs to raise the TRPs
Salman Khan

Yesterday night Bollywood's mercurial superstar Salman Khan makes his small screen debut as host of Dus Ka Dum. If anyone had doubts over Salman as the ideal host, the superstar gave a glimpse of his hosting prowess at the show's launch by pouring champagne to the media present. He was more than a perfect host. And above all the pony-tailed Salman answered every question with aplomb.

Excerpts from an interview:

It was reported that initially you had rejected the offer for this show?

"Yes, that's right but I hadn't heard the script then. Well, after being told of it again, I fell in love with the format. I didn't ponder over it again and gleefully accepted it. Television today has become a very big and popular medium."

What made you accept the show?

"Besides the concept which I loved, the other reason was my fans. They have watched my best and worst films but now they don't need to spend money to watch me. They can sit at home and know me better."

What was your experience as a first-time host?

"I'm enjoying playing the host. My fans on the show have asked me so many questions that the media has never been able to do in so many years. That's the reason I say that television is a strong medium."

How close is he to the real Salman when hosting the show?

"I'm very much real in the show. The way I'm in my living room or with my pals I am much the same on the show."

To increase the TRPs of the show which celebs would you like to invite?

"I don't think I need any celebs to raise the TRPs of the show. I myself, am enough to handle the whole show."

Lastly if you were given a chance to incorporate the style of either of the two top reality show hosts- Amitabh Bachchan or Shah Rukh Khan who would be your choice?

"Definitely Mr. Amitabh Bachchan as he is the best."

And as the show based on guesswork and percentages premiers tonight Salman's fans wait with bated breath to welcome their idol in their living rooms.

Some high-spirited driving

Salman Khan forsakes his car and girlfriend Katrina Kaif, to ride an autorickshaw at 1.15 am on Friday. Katrina has to sit with the auto driver in the car

Salman Khan is at it again! On Friday, 1.15 am, at Olive, a visibly high Salman Khan walked out with his girlfriend Katrina Kaif in tow.

However, instead of getting into the car with her, he chose to ride a rickshaw. And the funniest part is that Katrina Kaif trailed behind Salman in the car with the auto-driver sitting next to her!

A witness said, "Salman walked in with Katrina around midnight. They settled for a table in the private dining room. Salman ordered vodka and washed down five to six pegs.

Katrina did not drink; she only had dinner. They were seen chatting and looked happy in each other's company."

After dinner, they left the restaurant and little did Katrina know what was waiting for her. A highly tipsy Salman hailed an auto rickshaw instead of getting into the car with her.

Katrina, who has by now got used to Salman's autorickshaw drives, thought that it was time for yet another adventure trip. But sharing her seat with an auto driver was something she hadn't bargained for.

However, Salman, unaware of Katrina's discomfort, drove the rickshaw merrily. "He seemed very well-versed with the rickshaw controls," said the source.

This is not the first time that Salman Khan has taken an autorickshaw ride in the dead of night. Good friend Govinda has often been a part of Salman's midnight adventure trips.

Salman even rubbed off his love for driving autorickshaws onto Willard Carroll, who directed him in Marigold.

Adnan Sami's son bonds well with Salman Khan

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has bonded so well with Pakistani singer Adnan Sami's son Azaan that he took the youngster for a ride on his buggy scooter.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has bonded so well with Pakistani singer Adnan Sami's son Azaan that he took the youngster for a ride on his buggy scooter.

Azaan, who is currently visiting his father in Mumbai, attended Salman's birthdayAdnan Sami and Salman Khan celebration on his farm at Panvel Saturday. Salman took to Azaan in a big way and made sure the boy felt comfortable in the new environment. In fact, all the guests including Adnan were agog when Azaan and Salman disappeared for almost an hour.

'Later I came to know that Salman took Azaan for a ride on his buggy scooter on the beach. My boy was simply blown way. He says it was one of the best experiences of his life,' Adnan told IANS.

Azaan is the son of Adnan and actress Zeba Bakhtiar, to whom Adnan was married for a short time.

'His hair was windswept when he came back with Salman and he had that far-away look in his eyes that I hadn't seen while Azaan did the other fun things in Mumbai with me. Salman is a very dear friend. And although he had hordes of birthday guests to look after, he made my boy feel special and comfortable. I'll never forget that,' Aznan added.

And now Azaan want a buggy scooter of his own.

'Of course, I'll get it for him. There's nothing I won't get Azaan. All he has to say is he wants it. On the way to Salman's farmhouse in Panvel Azaan tasted Mumbai's junk food, pao-bhaji, bhel-puri etc for the first time. Now he wants to take some of that also back for his mother,' said Adnan.

Azaan also wants to take his father's pet golden labrador Rock to Pakistan. But apart from the practical problems of transporation, there's an emotional obstacle to the canine migration.

Adnan's second wife Sabah is very attached to Rock.

'There's nothing I'd deny my boy. But this is between Sabah and Azaan. Rock is very attached to my wife. And now he has taken a shine to my son in no time at all. My dog even sleeps comfortably on the same bed as my son. Azaan does want to take him back.

'So it's now Salman's buggy, Sabah's dog and Mumbai's bhel-puri that my son wants to take back to Karachi,' said Adnan.

Star who desperately need a good 2009

Salman Khan- Last but not the least we all hope that 2009 brings in lots of luck for Sallu bhai. His 2008 was really bad where his much hyped film Yuvvraaj was unable to create magic in the box office. This year he has Veer where Salman can once again prove himself and come back in the race.

Salman warns Kareena
Mumbai: Salman Khan was at his humourous best on the sets of his forthcoming TV show 10 Ka Dum as he bonded with his star contestants Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. Known for his dedication to his fitness regime, Salman had some words of advice for Kareena, who has lost a lot of weight in the past in her bid to flaunt an eye-popping figure.

"Be careful not to lose too much weight. Men like women with some weight," he told Kareena, adding, "Women who lose too much weight begin to look hard in the face and that's not attractive. Don't stand in front of a fan. You might just fly away."

Kareena just sportingly flaunted a smile. Salman then went a step ahead to first compliment Karisma and then commented at her near-perfect figure. Salman and Karisma have a long list of flop films together and he had no qualms listing them all in front of the audiences too. Jokingly he told the audience, "One film with me turned her career -- she became a big star."

Forewarned is foe-armed

Salman Khan backed out of Farah Khan's talk show after he learnt that arch-enemy Shah Rukh Khan's production house was the line producer

Reconciliations may be the order of the day in Bollywood, but Salman Khan is in no mood to toe the line. While Shah Rukh Khan apologised to Salman's ex Aishwarya Rai at Karan Johar's birthday party held earlier this week for speaking against her in the much-publicised brawl with Salman last year on Katrina Kaif's birthday party, Salman is in no mood to extend the olive branch to his friend-turned-foe Shah Rukh Khan.

Salman had committed to appear as a guest in Farah Khan's talk show Tere Mere Beech Mein. However, as soon as he learnt that Shah Rukh Khan's production house, Red Chillies Entertainment, was the line producer of the show, he backed out.

A source said, "Salman had agreed to shoot for Farah Khan's talk show and had even allotted dates for the shoot. Before this, Salman had never been keen to appear in any talk show but he made an exception for Farah. He was under the impression that her production house, Three's Company, was the sole producer of the show. When Salman got to know that Shah Rukh was also associated with the show, he not only cancelled the shoot but also made his displeasure clear about not being informed beforehand about SRK's involvement."

Farah Khan chose to brush aside the issue and said, "Don't make a big issue out of it. Salman is going to shoot with me after 10 days. He is not supposed to shoot with me now because he is busy shooting for Dus Ka Dum."

Elaborating on Shah Rukh's involvement in the show, Farah said, "The show is primarily being produced by my production house but it is a joint venture. A few people from Red Chillies are also involved in the show along with the production team from the channel as well as freelancers." Salman Khan was unavailable for comment.

Karisma and Kareena have a blast on Dus Ka Dum 2

It's raining celebrities on the sets of Dus Ka Dum 2. After shooting with Mallika Sherawat and boxer Vijender Singh for his first episode of DKD's second season, Salman Khan will be quizzing Bollywood's lovely leading ladies, sisters Karisma and Kareena Kapoor.

A source present on the sets says, "We have a two day break from shooting now. We have shot for the second episode with Karisma and Kareena as special guests but we do not know when it will air."
Narrating what happened during the show, the source says, "Salman performed at the start of the episode when suddenly, his cell phone rings. He talks to Karisma, who tells him that he was supposed to pick her up from her house. He replies saying that he is in the middle of a DKD shoot. The act proceeds till both of them are dancing to their hit number Uchi Hai Building Lift Teri Band Hai from Judwa."

Karisma also told Salman that he asked her questions which were "too difficult" before revealing that she has a supporter on the sets. "When Salman inquired as to who that is, Kareena entered with a performance on the song Mauja Hi Mauja from Jab We Met. Karisma lost during the knockout round so she cheered and helped Kareena, who also played. Kareena won 10 lakhs and then decided to quit. It was a very entertaining episode," says the source.

Salman has shot for 2 of DKD's 14 episodes so far. He is expected to shoot the next episode on Thursday (May 28,2009) and rumour has it that this installment too will feature a celebrity guest. DKD will air this coming Saturday at 9pm on Sony TV.
