Thou art talented!

In 45 days, Salman Khan completed as many as 25 paintings, while in London for a shoot
When Salman Khan was in London recently for the shoot of London Dreams, he painted the city red every night. And we're speaking literally. He just couldn't seem to still his paint brush while there.

And when he returned to Mumbai, the airport staff was kept really busy, offloading as many as 25 paintings that Sallu had created there. According to his friends most of the paintings followed the theme of secularism, and are about peace and harmony.
Art-time actor: Salman Khan

In London, Sallu would shoot by day, and paint by night. When we contacted Salman, he said, modestly, "Yes, I did a lot of painting in London. In the evenings, after shoot I used to come back to the hotel and get busy with my paintings. Painting is my hobby and passion, but then everyone knows about it."

Khan War: Salman v/s SRK in 2008

2008 has been a big year for SRK. He has made a clean sweep with just one master stroke, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Sadly, we can't say the same thing for his bette noir Salman Khan, who has had a very unsuccessful year.

Salman Khan has had four releases this year. Before his movie could releae, he and SRK made headlines with their fight at Katrina Kaif's birthday party. The two have not spoken since and Bollywood is divided between the two camps.

God Tussi Great Ho released with Bachna Ae Haseeno on August 15. The remake of Bruce Almighty had an impressive cast comprising Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra and was directed by writer Rumi Jaffery. The film was shot before the Abhi-Ash affair, which is why the two of them shared screen space. None of the actors promoted the dated film when it released. The film was replete with special effects and peppy music but neither the pairing of Priyanka and Salman nor the face off between Salman and Amitabh Bachchan made the film a hit with audiences. 1 flop, 3 to go.

Hello released on 10 October. Based on Chetan Bhagat's best selling novel, One Night at the Call Centre, the film had Sohail Khan, Eesha Koppikhar, Sharman Joshi, Amrita Arora and Gul Panag as its main cast. Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif were thrown in to cash in on their star power. The movie opened with Salman Khan's song Bang Bang and Katrina soon entered as the storytelling Angel but neither their chemistry nor the film worked. Lucky mascot Katrina didn't prove lucky for them. People had already seen Salman's shirtless song on TV so they didn't feel like trekking to the theatre. 2 flops, 2 to go!

Multistarrer Heroes released on October 24 and the makers hoped it would draw in the crowds because of the ongoing Diwali vacations. Truth be told, Heroes was a decent and touching film with some very fine and nuanced performances from Preity Zinta and Salman Khan while Bobby and Sunny energized the screen with their presence. It is the best film that director Sameer Karnik has made (he has made debacles like Nanhe Jaisalmer and Kyun Ho Gaya Na before). Sadly, the film wasn't marketed well and nobody showed interest in this patriotic saga so it sank at the BO. 3 flops and 1 to go!

Magnum opus Yuvvraaj had expectations riding sky high when it released on November 21 because it was a Subhash Ghai musical that teamed Salman and Katrina as on screen lovers for the first time (Kat didn't end up with Salman in Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya). It was basically a lavish musical film. Katrina already had two hits in her kitty with Race and Singh is Kinng but Subhash Ghai's last hit was Pardes in 1998 and Salman hadn't had a hit since 2007's Partner. Barring the music, nothing about the film was right. It was a waste of talent. Salman was playing himself in the film and made a fool of himself when he cried on screen. The well promoted film suffered heart breaking losses. We feel really bad for Salman who was really counting on the film to end his year on a hit note. But, alas! It is 4 flops down and nowhere to go for Salman in 2008.

Shah Rukh Khan must be smiling all the way because all of Salman's movies have flopped. He had one release: Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and one responsibility: to make it a hit and salvage the YRF banner which didn't have a hit film since Chak De in August 2007. SRK's sheer presence, performance and chemistry with talented newbie Anushka salvaged the flawed but feel good film. The year has ended on a very good note for super star SRK.

Salman's bad habits catching up!

Salman Khan may have been the original Bollywood superstar. He had the clothes, style and body that put most diligent gym-goers to shame. But sadly his bad boy lifestyle seems to be catching up.

40 plus and getting on, Sallu now sports a paunch and baggy eyes.

But SRK and Aamir who never believed in bulking up seem to have taken a leaf out of Salman's former body building book. The two senior superstars are now spending hours in the gym and looking younger by the day. Acting with girls half their ages both SRK and Aamir are flaunting their newly acquired abs!

With a dismal 2008 at the box office for Salman and his big budget Veer not very far away, it sure looks like Sallu needs to head to the gym and get back into shape.

Santa Salman Khan wows kids
Salman Khan gives kids 'the best Christmas' of their life.
Fifteen kids of the Smile Foundation — a national level organisation working on children's health and education in 21 states of the country — had a whale of a time as none other their 'favouritest' actor Salman Khan gave them gifts on Christmas eve. However, they did not anticipate the double-whammy when Preity Zinta joined them a little later — which was a pleasant surprise. She had dropped in to visit Salman on the way to a shoot.
The kids named Fie, Sameer, Mithilesh, Pooja, Mayuri, Jyoti and Amrish were excited and thrilled to bits as they also got to take a look at the sets of Salman's forthcoming film, Veer. Salman asked them, "Where are the rest of the guys? I was expecting more of you. Have they all gone to see Ghajini?"

As a gesture of gratitude, the kids gifted him a lamp with a candle and sang, May God Bless You while Salman beamed and joined in with the chorus. Preity Zinta remembered, "I learned this song in school." It was a touching day for the kids, the stars
And, of course, us. Here's to a Merry Christmas!

Happy Birthday, Salman!

Bollywood's most loved and hated man turns 43 years old on December 27,2008. We trace his very eventful journey in Bollywood.

Born Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan on December 27, 1965 to screenwriter Salim Khan and Salma Khan, Salman is the oldest of four siblings. Arbaaz and Sohail are his younger brothers. Sister Alvira is a fashion designer who is married to Atul Agnihotri and Arpita was adopted by his family many years ago. Yesteryears seductress Helen is his stepmother. They all stay at Galaxy Apartments located at Bandra Bandstand.

Coming back to the birthday boy, he made his debut in 1988 with Biwi Ho Toh Aisi and achieved stardom with Maine Pyar Kiya in 1989.

Baaghi, Saajan, Paththar ke phool, Sanam Bewafaa were consecutive box office successes. Then films like Jaagruti and Andaz Apna Apna flopped until he regained the top spot with the blockbuster Hum Aapke Hain Kaun in which he co starred with Madhuri Dixit. 1995 was a good year as Karan Arjun starring him and Shah Rukh was a big hit.

Khamoshi: the musical was a critical success while Salman-Sunny-Karishma starrer Jeet was a commercial success in 1996. This was followed by super hit films like Judwaa, Pyaar kiya toh Darna Kya, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Hum Saath Saath Hai, Biwi No. 1, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke from 1997 to 2001. Salman bounced back in 2003 with hit flick Tere Naam in which he played an obsessive lover and his hairstyle became a rage all over the country. In 2004, Mujhse Shaadi Karoge was a big hit and Phir Milenge is one of his most sensitive performances to date. In 2005, Main Pyar Kyun Kiya and No Entry scored at the BO but after Partner in 2007, he hasn't had a single hit. Yuvvraaj, Heroes, Hello, God Tussi Great Ho and Marigold have crashed and burned on the BO.

Salman has won two Filmfare awards in his career and the Rajiv Gandhi award for Outstanding Achievement in Entertainment in 2007. Salman was the quintessential romantic, action and sentimental hero but not he is more comfortable doing comedy now.

Salman is one of Bollywood's original body builders and spares no opportunity to take off his shirt. He has also mentored Hrithik Roshan and other debutantes in their body building endeavours. Bollywood's original six pack abs often cycles is often seen cycling around the city and is referred to as one of the fittest actors in B-town.

Salman is also known for his charity work. He runs the Being Human Foundation for children. Salman paints as well and sales proceeds go to the charitable trust. He often plays cricket with street children near his house.

Salman is a very witty, funny and spontaneous guy. But he is also very moody and unpredictable. If he likes you, he will do everything in his power to help you but God save you if you he doesn't like you. Vivek Oberoi is someone who knows this well.

Salman has had an impressive list of girlfriends. He was dating Sangeeta Bijlani at the beginning of his career, then came in Somy Ali for a short while, followed by his tumultuous affair with Aishwarya Rai whom he met on the sets of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. They had an acrimonious break up and Khan has been going steady with Katrina Kaif since 2003. He isn't very open and not someone who wears his heart on his sleeve. His family is very keen that he gets married to Kaif soon.

Salman is also known for his love for parties. Rest assured that a party at his place will serve the finest alcohol, yummiest biryani and most succulent kebabs available in town. The Khan household is secular and celebrates festivals like Christmas, Diwali and Ganesh Chaturthi along with Eid. They also distribute food in orphanages during Eid.

Salman's wax statue has been erected at Madame Tussauds' Museum in London alongside Indian actors SRK, Big B and former girlfriend Aishwarya Rai. He was also voted the 7th Best Looking Man in the World by People Magazine in 2004.

Salman has gotten into legal trouble for hunting down an Indian Gazelle in Rajasthan which is an endangered species. He has also been arrested for drunk driving, killing one person who was sleeping on the street.

His fight with SRK at Katrina Kaif's birthday party was the biggest news in Bollywood this year. Both of them have maintained that they will never talk to each other again.

Salman made his TV debut with Dus Ka Dum. His spontaneity, humour and congenial charm upped the TRP ratings of the show and made it a hit with TV audiences.

Next year, Salman will be seen in musical drama London Dreams with Asin and Ajay Devgan and in period drama Veer, whose script he has penned himself.

Salman is a yaaro ka yaar and dushmano ka dushman. He is not perfect but he is what he is. His flaws and his innate magnanimity and goodness make him the multilayered personality that he is. We wish Controversy's Favourite Child a very happy birthday and many more peaceful and joyful years to come.

Salman turns 43 celebrations on at the farmhouse with family and friends

MUMBAI: Bollywood's "most eligible bachelor", Salman Khan, turned 43 on Saturday.

The actor and his family left for their farmhouse at Panvel in Navi Mumbai on Friday night where he will spent his birthday in the company of close family and friends.
Salman, who has seen several ups and downs in his 20-year-old film career, remains one of the most loved personalities and one of the biggest draws in the industry.

The actor who recently turned script-writer with director Anil Sharma's Veer is currently shooting for it in Mumbai. Other upcoming films include Vipul Shah's London
Dreams
, Sohail Khan's Main aur Mrs Khanna and Boney Kapoor's
Wanted: Dead or alive.

Salman is perhaps the only actor in the Hindi film industry who keeps his popularity ratings unchanged among fans despite a slew of flops in recent times. The fact was evident by the stupendous success of his TV game show Dus Ka Dum, where his affable and easy going conduct was described as an extension of his real-life personality.

Part of the famous Khan troika - Shah Rukh and Aamir being the other two, Salman is among the top paid actors in the industry. Often labelled as the "bad boy of the tinsel town", Salman had recently said in an interview that the image had been given to him by people "who could not get closer to him and did not know him well".

It's all in the stars
Salman Khan

He is governed by number 9, the fiery Mars (Mangal), the planet of energy, which makes a person impetuous, accident-prone, stubborn and inflexible. His comeback vehicles – Tere Naam and Partner – add up to 9. His girlfriend Katrina's destiny number is 9. She's a water sign (Cancerian) and he's an Earth sign, and these signs usually go well together. So, he should lie low this year as he could be subject to defamation, scandal and false accusations. In 2010, he'll be 45, one of his best years, and marriage could be on the cards. But if he marries Katrina, she should brace against his fiery outbursts.

Boys will be boys

Salman Khan and Adnan Sami's son Azaan had a blast together at the former's birthday party at Panvel
Like every year, this year too Salman Khan brought in his 43rd birthday on 27 December,2008 by celebrating at his farmhouse in Panvel. However this time, a very special guest from Karachi was present at the do.

Adnan Sami's 14-year-old son Azaan, who's currently visiting his father in Mumbai, attended Salman's party. The actor and Azaan got along like a house on fire and Salman personally made sure that Azaan was comfortable. But what surprised everybody is that all of a sudden, Azaan and Salman disappeared for almost an hour.

An amused Adnan said, "Later, I got to know that Salman had taken Azaan for a ride on his buggy scooter on the beach. My boy was simply blown way. He said it was one of the best experiences of his life.

Azaan had a twinkle in his eyes that I hadn't seen even while he and I were doing fun things together. Salman is a dear friend. Even though he had several guests to look after, he made Azaan feel special, I'll never forget that."

And now, Azaan wants a buggy scooter of his own. "Of course I'll get it for him. There's nothing I won't get Azaan. On our way to Salman's farmhouse, Azaan had pav-bhaji and bhelpuri for the first time. Now he wants to take some of these snacks for his mother (Zeba Bakhtiar) also," said Adnan.

But the one thing that would be toughest to transport from Mumbai to Karachi is Adnan's pet golden Labrador, Rock who Azaan wants to take back. Apart from the practical problems of transportation, Adnan's second wife Sabah is also very fond of Rock.

The doting father said, "There's nothing I'd deny Azaan but this is between Sabah and Azaan. Rock is attached to my wife as well as my son."

Salman to spend birthday at his farmhouse

Salman Khan turns 43 today (27 December,2008). We tell you what he is doing.

It was rumored that Salman would be flying out of the country for his birthday and New Year celebrations but that is not the case. Salman is currently shooting for Veer at Film City but he will take a day off tomorrow.

A source close to Salman tells us, "Salman will have a party at his farmhouse in Panvel with his close family and friends on his birthday."

He further adds, "We all know that Salman is a family man and he loves to party. Biryani and kebabs are definitely on the menu. Salman will play host to all their friends from the industry."

It has almost become a ritual for the superstar to head to his Panvel farmhouse for his birthday. The actor heads there every year on Christmas Eve and stays there till a day after his birthday.

The guest list for Salman's party tomorrow night is said to include dad Salim Khan, mom Salma, step mom Helen, sisters Alvira and Arpita, brother Sohail, Arbaaz and their families. His staff members will also be there as Salman values them a lot. David Dhawan, Aamir Khan, Subhash Ghai, Anil Kapoor and Ajay Devgan are also expected.

However, this year girlfriend Katrina Kaif will be missing from the do. She is currently holidaying with her family in London and is expected back only in January.

Salman is really fond of his farmhouse in Panvel. He often cycles there from Mumbai with his bodyguards following him in cars. After the shooting of Yuvvraaj wrapped up earlier this year, Salman and Katrina threw a lavish wind up bash for their cast and crew members over there.

The year Bolly came to Telly

As serials declined in popularity in 2008, reality shows rose. Of course, could Bollywood be left behind when so much malai was to be made? Big B became host in 2000 and SRK much later but 2008 was the year when small screen became totally and perfectly acceptable to big screen (and big budget!) stars.

Salman Khan: Sallu finally took the plunge on TV and his show, Dus Ka Dum, was amazing for its unpredictability, echoing the personality of its famously mercurial star. Salman had all sorts of characters on the show who behaved in the most outrageous manner and it was all good entertainment. Whether he will return for season II or not is uncertain, but he made his mark.
