It's sad that Salman and I fought: SRK

DNA Exclusive

Interviewing Shah Rukh Khan is always a delight. But this time, as much as the interview, the two calls he spoke on in between perhaps gave a better glimpse of the real SRK.

The first was the call he made to his assistant who lost his mother. ?I know exactly how it feels,? Khan told him emotionally, adding, ?Don't worry; she is in a better place. I am sure she will soon meet my parents.?

With a hint of tears in his eyes, he tells me, ?You know what's the worst thing happening to me? I am forgetting how my parents looked and that?s scary. For the first time, after so many years, we have put up their pictures in the living room, simply because I want to remember how they looked.? And then he says sadly, ?Imagine if you can forget how your parents looked, what is permanent in this life??

The other call was from a journalist who wanted to meet him later in the night. ?No,? he said firmly, ?I can meet you only after I put my children to bed,? yet again showing that he values his close relationships more than anything else.

?I think my biggest achievement is that my wife and kids don?t complain about me not spending enough time with them. For that I have to sacrifice a few of my social commitments, because of which many people misunderstand me, but that?s okay. I had decided early on in my life that everything is transitory except for a few people who are close to me,? he says with his trademark dimpled smile.

The release of his film, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, directed by Aditya Chopra, is just around the corner. Adi and SRK have always been a winning combination.

?When Adi narrated this story to me, I loved it. I didn?t think he wanted me for the lead role though, because he always narrated his stories to me, in spite of people thinking that we don?t get along,? he says.

He plays a double role. One of the characters, Surendra Sahni, ?is this normal man who is secure in his skin. He is an ordinary man who has an extraordinary story to tell. He is truly secure in his skin. I like such people,? he says. Someone like Shah Rukh Khan? ?Yeah, Adi said he is like me, and I said then he must be boring. My wife thinks I am very boring,? he says.

At 43, he still has two dreams ? ?One making a studio and another building a sports academy for kids. I don?t know when they will materialise as it all depends on when I will be granted the land.?

Even when the realisation of his dreams is taking time, it?s not easy for him to ask for help. ?I don?t even ask for directions,? On second thoughts, ?I sometimes do ask for help. Like for my film Billoo Barber, I wanted Deepika (Padukone), Priyanka (Chopra), Kareena (Kapoor) to help me out with a song. They all danced and when I wanted to pay them, they refused. They said they were doing it for themselves and not for me. I thought that was really sweet.?

There is something else he hates ? losing. ?I cry when I lose. I think if you hate losing bad enough, you end up winning. It?s a state of mind.?

That?s why his team Kolkata Knight Riders? loss at the Indian Premier League hit him hard. ?It was horrible. Even though I sent wonderful messages to my team-mates; I hated losing with all my heart. Winning should be a habit. But what to do - this win was not in my hands, there were too many things involved.?

What went out of his hand was also his fight with Salman Khan. He says, ?Salman and I are different people. I am glad he said it too because he knows it. He has some kind of attitude towards life and he needs people who gel with his kind of thinking. I do not but that doesn?t mean I am a bad person.

Similarly if someone doesn?t understand my sensibilities doesn?t mean he is not a good person. Hum kaafi alag log hain. The reason why I don?t talk about this is because anything we say could be misconstrued. And we don?t need any more animosity.

Salman should be known for films like Maine Pyar Kiya and the good work that he has done, and I should be known for what I have done in my career, instead of a fight.

What kind of education am I giving my children? That their father in his 40s had a fight with one of his colleagues? Then you get to hear now there are different camps. It?s really sad that we fought, but there is also this goodness that we realise we are different people.

I am more saddened that people started commenting that I spoke about a married woman (referring to Aishwarya Rai) in the party, which I didn?t.

I respect women too much to do that. I know my wife is also someone?s sister, but I chose her to be my wife and I expect the world to respect her. You will never hear me talk loosely about a woman.?

Did Salman ignore Aditya ?

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2009 has been more in the news for its petty skirmishes - at times between the judges or the contestants. This time around it was celebrity guest Salman Khan and host Aditya Narayan who reportedly were involved in a battle of their own.

As per few reports, the Bollywood superstar, who was on the show with girlfriend Katrina Kaif to promote his upcoming film Yuvvraaj, wasn't pleased with Aditya interrupting him every time he tried speaking.

Salman was his usual jovial self and was interacting with the audience. Aditya wanted to quickly move on with the proceedings of the show and kept interrupting. Salman certainly isn't comfortable with anyone dictating terms with him so he completely ignored Aditya.

An eye witness though rubbished such news. "There's so such truth in these tales. Salman and Aditya were only poking fun at each other."

Aditya Narayan wasn't available for comment.

Animation fails to make SRK and Salman bond

Some industry people say Sanjay dubbing for Salman could be a result of the SRK-Salman fight.

Sanjay Dutt will dub for Salman Khan's character in the animated version of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Is it a result of Salman's fight with SRK?

The great divide between Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan has been in news for quite a while. Now, it seems this realistic battle is all set to hit celluloid as well.

News is that Karan Johar, who is making an animated version of his directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai called Kuchie Kuchie Hota Hai has roped in Sanjay Dutt to do the voiceover for the character that Salman played in the original. However, the other actors — Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji — will dub for the animated version.

Some industry people say Sanjay dubbing for Salman could be a result of the SRK-Salman fight as Karan and SRK are close friends and King Khan is in no mood to reconcile with Salman. However, Karan says the inclusion of Sanjay was due to the changes made to the character Salman originally played.

Karan says, "It is true that Sanjay Dutt is lending his voice to the character that Salman played in the original film. In the animated version we made certain modifications to Salman's character and so after those changes, we realised that Sanjay Dutt was best suited to lend his voice for it. It was not due to any other reason."

Whatever may be the reason SRK and Salman are definitely not sharing screen-space not even in animation.

Blonde Identity

Subhash Ghai wanted Salman Khan to dye his hair blonde for Yuvvraaj. But that was easier said than done
Subhash Ghai had a tough time convincing Salman Khan to dye his hair blonde for his film, Yuvvraaj.

Ghai wanted Salman, who plays the title role, to look different than he usually is. So he thought upon various ideas to enhance Salman's personality in the film.

Salman Khan in Yuvvraaj

According to a source, "Ghai was adamant on showcasing Salman in a different look in the film. So he tried several looks for him but failed to get what he wanted. Then suddenly, one day, a brainwave struck Ghai and he asked Salman to go blonde.

Initially Salman laughed at the statement thinking that Ghai was joking but eventually when he realised that he was serious about it, he outright refused to do any such thing."

Ghai confirmed the news and said, "I tried several looks on Salman's photograph with the help of a computer. But I realised that every look I devised, looked pale in comparison with his real life personality."

Then how did the blonde look come about? Ghai revealed, "It just happened in Austria on the first day of the shoot. I was still toying with the idea of giving Salman a different look.

I don't know whom I saw or what I remembered, but I suddenly told Salman that I want him to go blonde."

Salman was too shocked to react. Ghai added, "Salman did not like my idea. He refused. He saw my face fall."
On the sets, Ghai had another shock waiting for him. Salman did not turn up for the shoot.

Ghai recollected the day's happening and said, "I waited for two hours and since Salman did not turn up at the shoot, I suspected that he didn't like my idea and was upset about it.

However, soon he walked in and my eyes popped out. He had coloured his hair blonde and was smiling at me."

Salman had dyed his hair blonde at his hotel and was looking just as Ghai had wanted him to. Ghai chuckled, "I guess Salman likes to give pleasant surprises. Yuvvraaj also stars Anil Kapoor, Zayed Khan and Katrina Kaif.

I am struggling: Salman Khan

Salman Khan says what other people think of him has never bothered him.

Salman Khan admits to Shubha Shetty-Saha that he is struggling to keep the normal person within him alive

Salman Khan looked a little emotionally drained as he spoke to us about the issues that are bothering him and also those which are making him happy.

First of all, his movie Yuvvraj released on Friday. ?Anil (Kapoor), Zayed (Khan) and I play brothers and we got along really well and it shows on screen. If you don?t like your co-stars in the film, no matter how well you act, it shows. We are all very secure in our own way. I am sure something or the other will make me insecure some day, but I haven?t come across it to date,? he says.

The producer-director of the film, Subhash Ghai and he had a famous spat a few years ago. Salman says, ?That was sorted out the next day itself. My father asked me to say sorry to him. He said ?Even if he slaps you or asks you to jump from the 12th floor, you do that and still say sorry. He is your senior and you have no business disrespecting anyone.? Sometimes we do get carried away but these things can get sorted out,? he says.

But there are some, he says, it?s impossible to sort things out with. ?You can only be closest to your family and a few friends. There is no point in trying to get along with everyone. Best thing is to stay away from people who wish bad things for you. I don?t think people who are always competing with you can be your friends. There is always this jealousy factor?? he trails off.

Salman says he finds solace by talking to God everyday. ?I don?t ask him for anything. I just thank him for all that he?s given me. God knows what I need. I just ask him to keep my health and izzat intact. I think I am truly lucky to be put in my family, to be given the kind of looks I have and so much love. I know a lot of them around who think they have achieved it all. It is so foolish. Nobody is bigger than their destiny. I am the last person to go around saying I am the greatest person alive. Let other people say that. People know it instantly when you are faking it and trying to sell yourself.?

Salman says what other people think of him has never bothered him. What he is sensitive of though is about giving back the love and respect that he?s received all these years.

?Professionally, I might go higher or lower, doesn?t matter. But I haven?t figured out how to give back the love that I have received. I want to do something more human and personally, feel at peace. I am passionate about the children in my organisation (Being Human). We are lucky human beings but the least we could do is try to be as human as possible. Rather than trying to run someone down, try and save someone?s life. When people see someone doing something human, they go wow. I get really irritated with this. It is our duty. If one person helped another one, this world would be a beautiful place.?

Salman says he has no wishes for himself. ?My ambition was to have Rs 10 lakh in my account, which I have managed some time ago. What can one achieve more than being the most loved man? I think I am. I don?t know what I am doing right or wrong, but I know my intentions have always been right. A lot of people think that knowingly or unknowingly, I have only done things to harm my career. They think I cannot be a superstar because I am still the person I was when I was in college. But that is what I want. I want to be this normal person. I am struggling to keep that person alive. I refuse to change. People can?t seem to digest that fact,? he says.

Well, it?s easier for us to digest the fact. Especially since soon after this interview he received a call from a friend whose wife was taken very ill. Salman rushed to his aid, without
wasting even a second.

Salmanspeak

Sarcastic, humourous, self deprecating and bombastic…who else but Salman Khan could combine all these so seamlessly

• Why was the shooting of Veer cancelled?

Subhash Ghai wanted me to be in Mumbai as Yuvvraaj releases on November 21 2008. So Boney Kapoor postponed the shooting schedule of Wanted from November 21 to November 30 2008 because of which Veer producer Vijay's (Galani) dates were also affected. I was supposed to be shooting in Greece right now. Boney and Vijay have done Subhash Ghai the biggest favour by postponing the dates of their films. I will resume shooting for Veer on December 1 2008 in Film City. It's a big budget film and even though we are currently not shooting, the film's sets are still intact. The shooting of Veer should be complete by March and it will release three months later.

• We hear Sanjay Leela Bhansali was planning a film with you.

I also thought he was planning a film with me but he isn't. Apparently, he is planning a film with Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai.

• What if you are offered a film opposite Aishwarya?

No, I wouldn't do it.

• You wouldn't be willing to forget personal problems for the same?

(Pauses, thinks) Well, if something really interesting comes up… sure, why not?

• Recently, Sanjay Dutt expressed a desire to get you and Shah Rukh Khan to patch up…

I love Sanju but I think he should first patch his s*** up with Shah Rukh. And Sanjay will not attempt to patch us up. I know him too well. He just said it without meaning it.

• Amole Gupte has approached you for his next.

I've heard he wants to meet me but I just got back from London. Of course I'll meet him.

• Would your association with Amole hamper your equation with Aamir Khan? They are not on talking terms.

No, I don't think so. Aamir is a very large-hearted person. He doesn't believe in these chindi chorigiris (petty issues)

• Your last two films haven't done well.

Says who? (Smiles) Ok! Which ones?

• God Tussi Great Ho and Heroes.

Sometimes people mess up. You sign a film because it sounds promising. But sometimes you realise that it hasn't turned out to be the way you had expected. Sometimes you do go wrong. Even God could not save that film. (laughs)

• There was buzz that you've asked Katrina to marry you.

That's not at all true.

• What do you think about the actress of Veer?

She is Zarine Khan. Yesterday on a news channel they were showing Amrit's picture who is opposite Zayed Khan in Yuvvraaj and calling her Zarine. What amazing research.

• You don't go by the 'tried and tested formula' when it comes to choosing directors.

What can I say…last three films of Mr Ghai didn't work but I'm doing Yuvvraaj because I loved the script. But other than his last three films, all his films are superb. He might have not made the most amazing cinema but his films are entertaining and grand.

• Do you feel people sometimes take undue advantage of you?

That's what they think… (Smiles)

Double blow for Salman

Salman Khan's humanitarian side and jolly demeanor is well known in the industry. However at a scheduled interview at Mehboob studio last night a much traumatized Salman appeared totally aghast after a phone call which in which he was told that his childhood friend's wife was diagnosed with blood cancer.

This information troubled Salman so much so that he couldn't continue with his work and within a few minutes he left Meboob studio. A promotional event for Yuvvraj at Delhi that was supposed to be held today has also been cancelled.

A source close to Salman informed us that he immediately went to meet the friend in order to support him. Being childhood friends, Salman consistently spent a lot of time with him and his wife. Only recently the trio spent some time together at Dubai.

Alok Mathur, Salman's official spokesperson confirmed. He said, "This friend of Salman is one of his closest friends and he is indeed shaken by this news. And as if it were not enough a blow for the day, Salman got another bad news.

The vet has said that his dog Myson who has been unwell for some time, is diagnosed with a heart ailment and wouldn't live for more than six months." According to various sources Salman always spends a lot of time with his two dogs Myson and Myjaan.

On Sunday, June 15, 2008 Salman Khan wrote a heartfelt note about his pets Myson and Myjaan on his blog (
http://duskadum.blogspot.com/2008/06/day-18-10-ka-dum.html)

Day 18 - 10 Ka Dum

Dedicated to the ones who wait for us across the rainbow bridge…

When I return home from shooting everyday, as a routine, I first spend time with my two champions, whom I've named Myson and Myjaan. They are my life and I am passionate about them. While I do not humanize them I dislike referring to them as dogs or my pets.

This is because they are a part of me, my family and they share my every joy and sorrow. They understand me completely and there is such a big bond, such a rapport that I share with them that it moves me beyond words. The best time whenever I get a Sunday off is the time I spend being with them.

Myjaan is far smarter and naughtier than Myson, she always insists I pet her first and creates a big fuss if I get to Myson before her. They are also my sounding boards, they ground me and help me to think.

When I go on long outdoor stints and cannot take them with me, I speak to them on the phone. I have an amplifier system installed at home, so that they can hear me loud and clear…and I can feel them close with the sounds that they make. My domestic staff tells me that they recognize my voice and respond to it.

My jaan of course has to be first to run to the door in breathless anticipation but Myson - he is smarter and more patient. He knows that I'm away and that I will return. Time stands still for them and the sun shines once again when I am near them… like I am today!

From them I learn patience and forbearance. The unconditional love that they teach me to share is timeless and beautiful.

Love like this is the highest kind of love. It finds joy in others no matter what, because it recognizes the freedom of those we love, and doesn't chain them to our own wants. It is the same kind of love God has for us.

Salman weeps while speaking about SRK

Salman Khan at Sa Re Ga Ma Pa

Though Shahrukh many times spoke about his spat which took place at Katrina's birthday bash, Salman has hardly spoken in media. Like King Khan, Salman was also hurt for loosing a close and old friend like him. Salman was uninvited at SRK's birthday but his family graces the occasion. While speaking to media about the fight, he was in tears.

When asked what he thinks about his family participating Shahrukh's party, he remarked, "If they want to participate in SRK's family events they are more than welcome to do that. But don't you think that it's a kind of a joke that from one side it's straight from the heart one family and from one family it's straight from the brain? Oh yeh Salman ke behalf pe aa rahe hai so he (Salman) looks like a fool. Yeh sabko bulaya gaya, yeh sab aayenge, they are all here, so Salman must be wrong. Because my family is socializing at SRK's family events!"

Salman then went onto state that it was Shahrukh who told the media about their little disagreement. "As soon as Shahrukh left the party, he started calling up the media! I didn't speak till one week after the fight because he was trying to put me in the middle of something which is not cool from any angle! That is the time I stood up and started speaking. There is no reason for disrespect. Everybody messes up. I have messed up also not once but so many times, without any malice, any manipulation or agenda. If things go wrong between two buddies we say 'okay buddy let's hang out together and sort it out' but if you are going to mess up and disrespect me then forget it," said a tearful Salman.

Hope, the two patch up soon and become bosom friends again.

Salman hangs outside SRK's gate

Salman Khan in Saalam-E-IshqShahrukh Khan celebrated his 43rd birthday with his close buddies on Saturday. Wife Gauri made sure that the event ended peacefully and so she had included in the guest lists those who are in the good books of Shahrukh. Obviously, the name that remained cut off from the list is the man who has humiliated Shahrukh during Katrina's birthday bash. It is known to all that Salman and Shahrukh are no more friends and therefore he remained uninvited from the bash. But interestingly, Sallu was caught loitering around SRK's abode Mannat.

He stopped his bike outside Mannat and stared at the huge gates for sometime. When the media persons present on the occasion tried to capture his movement, he just turned around his bike. It is not yet known what made Salman to drive to Mannat especially on that particular evening when King Khan was celebrating with family and industry friends like Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Hrithik Roshan, Sushmita Sen and Farhan Akhtar.

The guests that required special mention were Salman's sister-in-law Malaika Arora Khan and brother Arbaaz Khan. Amrita Arora also attended King Khan's king size
