Vicky Kaushal shares personal moment on stage as he dedicates 'Best Actor award to son'

Bollywood actors Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif welcomed their first child, a baby boy, on November 7 this year. The couple has not revealed the child’s name so far. Over the past month, the family has largely stayed away from the public eye, focusing on the early days of parenthood.

This week, Kaushal stepped out of Mumbai to attend an award ceremony, marking his first professional appearance since becoming a father. The actor was honoured with the Best Actor award for his performance in Chhaava at the NDTV Indian of the Year event held on Tuesday evening.

While accepting the trophy, Kaushal delivered a brief but personal speech. “Thank you for this honour. This is truly, truly special. It’s a humbling honour. This award is for my family and my little one, who has come in as a blessing. Thank you so much. First time I’m out of town after becoming a father. I’m sure when he grows up, and watches this, he’ll be proud of his dad,” he said on stage.

Kaushal played Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in Laxman Utekar’s historical drama Chhaava, a role that required physical transformation and extensive preparation. The performance has been widely discussed since the film’s release, with awards season recognising his work.

After the ceremony, Kaushal was asked about life as a new parent and whether he had faced any challenges so far. The actor responded candidly, choosing to focus on the emotional shift rather than routine struggles.

“It is too new to feel any challenges. It's all magical right now. It's all very blissful right now. I don’t know main shabdon mein nahi baiyan kar sakta ke kya feeling hai. There are all sorts of objectives that I can say, but it's just a very special feeling, and truly God has been very kind,” he shared.

He added that the arrival of his son has brought visible happiness to the entire family. “The family is very happy, and this one is for my entire family and especially for him,” Kaushal said.

Lightening the moment, the actor joked about his growing domestic skills, admitting that he is currently “better at changing diapers than acting”.
