Balancing parenting with work, especially as a single mother, often involves setting clear boundaries at home. Actor Shweta Tiwari, who has raised her daughter Palak Tiwari while continuing her television career, recently opened up about one such method she used to teach Palak the value of money.
Speaking in a conversation on Bharti TV’s YouTube channel, Shweta explained how household rules helped instil financial responsibility in Palak from a young age. Rather than being overly strict, she followed a structured approach that involved budgeting and work-based compensation.
“I wasn’t strict but there were some rules in our house,” Shweta said. Palak was given a monthly budget for her expenses, and if she went over the set limit, she was expected to do chores around the house to make up for it.
“She was given a budget. For instance, I allowed her to spend Rs 25,000 and if she went from 25,000 to 30,000, she knew that she would be asked to do household chores to compensate for it. There was a full list of chores. For cleaning her bathroom, she would get Rs 1000, she would get Rs 500 to clean the bed, for dishes, she would get Rs 1000. So she would do all of these things, and when she knew she was going to go over budget, she would do extra chores beforehand,” she shared.

Shweta also spoke about how she handles Palak’s income. Since Palak started earning, her mother has been actively involved in saving and investing her money. She keeps only a fixed amount available in Palak’s bank account and redirects the rest into savings.
“I don’t let it stay in her account. And she keeps saying ‘Mujhe kangaal kar dia, mere paise nikal liye,’” Shweta said, adding, “I keep telling her that the savings you have now, no one else has that. I ask her to sign the cheques, all the banking papers so I can save and invest her money.”
