Hey Leo ... how are you... third time we meet today 😆 Sunday must really be boring for both of us
so... be patient with me... I will try and reply to your post, but may look like I am going off on a tangent. Also, you know I havent even seen Mani's face, so if I say something blatantly stupid, please correct me.
Once upon a time, we all wrote about how complex Raman's character is, and how many facets it has. Raman was (and may be still is) one of the most 'multi-layered' characters on TV.
You remember how we used to discuss that Ishita, comparatively, has not been explored by the writers at all. The only side of Ishita we saw was that of an infertile woman instantly connecting with a child next door. At some point, that started changing, and I don't remember if it was the accident track or even before that, where Ishita started doing things that we had not seen before.
Honestly, I gave them benefit of the doubt as much as I could. Because, in my eyes, they were just trying to build that character, when I was already in love with another established character. There were quite a few times I was disappointed, but I blamed my tolerance level for my impatience. So, to be fair to the CVs, they did try... with Ishita's character.
Now coming to the topic you chose... Subbu...
Her lines about Subbu had always been consistent. Till Mani arrived, my view was that she has moved on from Subbu. Her hurt and anger over losing the love of her life reduced over a period of time... the final scene that I remember where Subbu was being discussed was when Raman asked her (in his office) if she was happy... and she couldn't have given a clearer message.
My problem is with Mani's 'role' and background now.
IF Mani is her childhood friend... I am assuming he has been in touch with her throughout all the ordeals she has been through ? He knows about Subbu + Prateek + her inability to bear a child?
IF Mani is such a close friend... and if he knows her whole life story, he wouldn't bring up Subbu casually and repeatedly. Because even if she has moved on now, and is happily married, there was a time when Subbu was her life. and if I were her friend, I'd be sensitive to that.
IF Mani is a close friend and Ishita is so comfortable with him, then if he does bring up Subbu, then I'd expect a tinge of something in her eyes. Not because she still remembers Subbu... But because she remembers the pain she had shared with Mani when Subbu left her...
I think Ishita's behaviour seems inconsistent because of the Mani character and the lack of depth in his story, not hers... did I make sense ???
