"so what if it's 3.00 am, has the government issued a proclamation to sleep at 3.00 am?, maheen was shouting on her phone and Ahmed Malik, inspite of being angry, tried being soft, "maheen, u know I don't like that u stay out of home for such late hours, come back home immediately!"
"I will NOT, the party is on it's full swing and I'll come back when it finishes", and she disconnected the phone.
Ahmed Malik closed his eyes to calm himself and then dialed the number again, and was greeted with her agitated voice again "dad, why the hell do u always intrude in my life , I am not coming home..
"maheen come back home in the next 20 minutes or I'll myself come and drag u out of that party of yours",, and this time the phone was disconnected on maheen's face and she knew she will have to go home now, which she hated.
It was 3.30, and quickly rushing through the building, she stepped out on the chilled road.
"I need to rest", she thought, she was exhausted, and moreover because of her father's threat, she should have directly headed towards her home, but Maheen never surrendered, she was out of the party, and even if her dad came out for her search, he would not be able to complain.
Choosing a nice bench by the road side, she sat on it cross legged and starting munching chips which she had just brought from the bakery. She had to eat something before she could gulp down her headache tablet.
It was snow all around, chill, winters everywhere.
She hated winters. It felt as if everything was concealed, nothing was clear, all misty, dusky, foggy!! .. urghh ! .. Things should be clear and bright, as summers, sunshine and light everywhere. She re-called her childhood days when she used to play endlessly in the sun, with umer, and her mom. Those were the days, real LIFE, she thought, but all that was temporary, her mom left them and here they were left alone to survive the harsh difficulties of life.
Sometimes she thought did her mom really left them, was it real?, or is it a delusion, her mom loved them , there wasn't a doubt, but she left them and this was a reality, and with this her mind took a trip to all the fights she had been seeing since childhood, not only fights but real violence.
Sighing she closed her eyes, the headache was turning sharp and she had started feeling dizzy,
"are u alright?",
A familiar voice made her open her eyes and she was shocked to see the same person, the same affectionate smile and the same penetrating eyes,
"yes, thank you', she replied stiffly, turning her eyes away, as she could feel herself already falling for his physical charms.
"but you don't seem to", he insisted and due to his deep masculine voice, maheen felt the urge of looking at him again, but she knew how to control her urges, she had been doing this since childhood.
"none of your business", and she jumped down the bench, but due to the dizziness she lost balance and before she could just fall down, his strong pair of arms caught hold of her waist and securely enveloped her thin being, "I told you, you are not fine",
Again his voice, made her open her eyes and she found herself under his soft gaze. His eyes were deep. This was the first thing she noticed being so close to him, she could feel a wave of current passing through her body from the point he was holding her waist. Even through the thick leather jacket, she could feel his fingers dipping in her skin and even through the thick barriers around her soul, she could feel his eyes penetrating and entering the deepest chambers of her heart through her eyes.
"I told you I am fine", she pushed his hand away and tried to re 'gain all the stiffness which she felt was melting away.
"Feeling sick is not an offence, it's alright!!", he said in a clam tone seeing that she was freaking out. "what the hell is your problem, I told you I am fine, now back off or I'll call police and get u behind the bars for eve-teasing", she replied taking out her cell phone from her pocket while he smiled, "you better call the ambulance, you can faint any moment!", he crossed his arms around his chest and maheen huffed at his confidence.
"are u a social worker?, helping people on the road?, how many sick girls have u helped?", she smirked while his smile widened, "well frankly speaking, you are the first sick girl I met on road and surprisingly, you never accept that u are sick, even that day I had to run behind you to tell u that ur lips are bleeding and today again you are not realizing that u have a severe headache and u are feeling dizzy and can fall down any moment", he swiftly informed her about her current condition and her mouth was literally left open, she was feeling the EXACT way.
Realizing that he was right and there was no way she could win an argument from him, she just grabbed her bag and walked past by him, glaring at him.
"don't walk much!!, do take a cab!", he shouted behind her and she could feel her eyes getting in voluntarily wet over the concern in his voice, but she kept mum, and shutting his mind she started walking more fast as to quickly move away from his audible range.
She was the strangest girl he had ever met, someone running away from her own sickness. Strange and very very strange. Shaking his head in disbelief, he turned to complete to his own way, when a shiny plastic card was waiting to be picked up on the road, "this must be hers', and as a reflex action he turned to see that was she still within sight, but she was not. Sighing he picked up the card and the first line he read made his heart pump in a irregular manner.
"I'll be meeting her everyday", and with this a smile graced his face and he looked back at her empty path. Some where he wished she was still there, looking back at her card, he read the other details,
"Maheen Malik", he said her name under his breath and Maheen who was about to press the doorbell of her home felt a strange warm wind caressing her.
Someone had called out her name with utmost softness.
