Aamir in shining armour

Actor Aamir Ali came down heavily on errant brats at Lokhandwala, recently

Last week, Aamir Ali (aka Saumya of Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki) got involved in a street brawl at Lokhandwala in Andheri (West) when he confronted two bikers teasing young women on the road. What started off with the actor giving an earful to the offenders soon saw him landing up exchanging blows with them. At the end of the tiff, however, the actor could get the brats apologise to the women. Talking about the incident Aamir says, " Yes it was a very unfortunate incident. I was driving down when I saw these guys jeering at these two girls. I don't know why most people chose to ignore it including the girls. I couldn't resist myself from intervening and teaching the boys a lesson."

Instead of apologising the wayward men started hurling abuses and later picked up a fight. Says Aamir, "They heckled and abused me. I just couldn't resist myself from slapping those two guys." Nevertheless, the actor achieved his purpose when the men apologised. Says Aamir, "In such cases you don't have the time to rush to the nearest police chowky. Either you volunteer to teach these men a lesson or simply turn a blind eye. I think it's the duty of any citizen to come forward and help fellow-citizens in distress."

At the career front, ever since the actor joined the cast of Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki the TRPs have shown a marked improvement. In fact, the actor is presently, facing a deluge of offers. Aamir, who had previously turned down Kulvaddhu, says "God has been kind and I'm glad that people like the chain of incidents involving Pari and Saumya on the show." Ask him about the storyline in the coming weeks and he says, "There's going to be a new twist in the Pari-Saumya love story. And of course, you will see me sobbing like a cry baby."

It's agni pariksha for Reena Kapoor

Rajshrees's television show, Woh Rehne Wali Mahlon Ki is being subject to a 40 day 'Agni Pariksha'. Now that Amir Ali, who plays Saumya Parashar in the show is falling in love with his wife Pari (played by Reena Kapoor) for the first time, this new found love of Saumya would not be without its share of misfortunes.

Says Amir Ali, "Saumya is bogged down with guilt and self-hatred for not being kind to Pari who has done so much for him. Now that he is getting fond of her, he is ready to beg for her love. But in a turn of events Pari would meet up with an accident and the imminent love story would have a tragic mix of drama."

Adds Reena Kapoor, who has given a scintillating performance in her maiden show, "The 40 day 'Agni Pariksha' that is being talked about would see two parallel tracks in the storyline; on one side Saumya is falling for Pari, and on the other hand Pari meets up with a deadly accident that would keep the audiences guessing about her fate."

Woh Rahne Wali..has been Sahara One's major success story so far. With a huge media campaign to build interest around the new track, the audiences would surely want to know more about Pari's fate. In order to get more on that we spoke to the channel's Programming Head, Kalyan Sundaram and he says, "Well, if you honour the clich, the protagonist rarely goes through death. That's all I can say, you got to read between the lines."

Whatever the fate of Pari turns out to be, the fact is that the audience's are going to enjoy every bit of the new unfolding chain of events. Would Pari embrace death or a new beginning with Saumya? Keep reading this space for more on that.

Unhappy End: Kamya Punjabi
For the past few months the telly industry was abuzz with rumours of Kamya Punjabi's marriage falling apart.

The actress, who got married to light designer Bunty Negi, never came out in the open to talk about it until now. Sindoora of Dulhann now bares her heart to HiTLIST.

You have decided to divorce Bunty.

Yes. I am going for a legal separation. I am not too happy about it, but I can't take it anymore. It's affecting my health.

You have been staying separately for some time.

Bunty has been an integral part of my life for six years. We dated for three-and-half years before tying the knot and lived together for more than two years.

I had to take a decision. It was continuously playing on my mind and hence I was constantly disturbed. Our families met on Sunday for a long meeting. We tried our best but couldn't reach a compromise.

What went wrong?

Everything was hunky-dory until we started having small quarrels. I thought they were the initial hiccups of marriage. Consequently, these quarrels became ugly fights.

Did Bunty raise his hand on you?

Then?

In August 2006, I decided enough was enough. We started living separately. We were living in our Kandivali flat, which is under my name. I continued staying in Kandivali, while he went back to his parents' house.

Was not having a child in these two-and-half years a conscious decision?

I was pregnant last year. But I had a miscarriage.

Will you marry again?

I haven't thought about it. I am scared to get into a marriage again so soon. I want to be single for some time. My first priority is to breathe free and have time for myself.

Was your marriage with Bunty a mistake?

Well, I loved Bunty. So why call my marriage with him a mistake? Let's just say that we were not made for each other.

Kamya Punjabi's marriage is over

Kamya, (Kamya Punjabi) of Woh Rehnewali Mahalon Ki and Sindoora of Banu Main Teri Dulhan, is going through a bad patch in her personal life. Kamya is going to file for divorce very soon.

Kamya was married to light designer Bunty Negi two and half year ago. Kamya is currently living in alone in a flat in Kandivli.

Kamya said, "I don't want to discuss my personal life. I have spoken once and I think that's enough. What I said appeared everywhere. Things like this happen. One has to cope. I shoot 30 days a month, so I have to deal with my stress. If a couple can't live with each other then they should leave each other alone. There is a mutual understanding between us. I'm open to discussion, but at this point we have nothing to say to each other. My parents are not interfering and his parents are obviously with him."

Before Banu Main Teri Dulhan, Kamya did serials like Astitva, Rihhaee, Reth, Piya Ka Ghar among others.

What's Aamir scared of?

No, the actor is not scared of doing his own stunts. In fact, he enjoys doing them, but it's heights that scare Aamir Ali. He says, "Recently, when we were shooting for Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki, a scene was to be shot on a giant wheel, but I couldn't get myself to sit in it. So, they had to find the shortest giant wheel for me. And they thought that since I was scared of heights, I would not do the stunts and they called for a body double. But I volunteered to do the stunts. Everyone was surprised that I was willing to do a dangerous scene but wasn't ready to sit in a giant wheel."

Reena Kapoor doesn't want to grow old

Reena Kapoor, who plays Pari in Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki on SaharaOne is not the kind who would be ready to apply whitener to look older. "It's something I am not convinced about. There are so many senior actors who can do such roles, I don't see any reason for younger actors to take on such roles. Also, as a actor once you are slotted in such roles, it's tough to go back and play younger characters," she says.

Are men b****y and gossipy?

For almost two months now Bigg Boss has rocked the nation with drama unfolding right into our bedrooms. Post Bigg Boss, it's a revelation that men too gossip and are bitchy. But could it be because they have got hassled staying holed up in the Bigg Boss den for so many weeks and are venting out their frustrations. Their aggravations are finding an outlet through their conversations with each other. Away from family and social contacts, have they been driven to bitch or are men by their very nature bitchy? We ask some tv actresses for their opinion.

Munisha Khatwani:
It's equal as both men and women bitch. Men are less malicious and gossip for fun but some are dangerous since they fib about their female conquests. Male bitching has a shock quotient as they tend to use abusive language Using expletives is common for them. This is evident in Bigg Boss where they have beeped the foul language.

Reena Kapoor :
Men are big hypocrites. They pretend to be disinterested in gossiping but in reality they want to know everything that's happening. In Bigg Boss too, all the men involved have proved to be bitchy and foul-mouthed. They won't ask directly but in a very cloaked manner. One thing for sure is their bitching among themselves is light-hearted and harmless. Also they are ready to forgive and forget whereas women are vengeful.

Poonam Joshi :
In my experience, men gossip more than women. Sometimes, they can even get nasty, especially when they are in a stag group, like in this particular show, they bitch, bitch and bitch. Women do gossip to a certain extent but are always helpful when their friends are in distress.

Shraddha Nigam :
Men also gossip and bitch, the BB show reinstates this, but their style is very matter-of-factly. It's time-pass for them and they don't delve into other's lives. Men really don't care about getting into their pyjamas, which women would love to. Like Kashmira used to bitch and create rift among the participants.

Simple Kaul :
Definitely yes….men love to gossip and bitch. You watch Bigg Boss and the men around there love to gossip, especially about women. Their bitchiness is cheap whereas women are not cheap. Men have the habit of kiss and tell and even if they have not kissed, they will like to flaunt their so-called conquests. They will talk very sweetly on your face but bitch behind your back. While if a woman does not like another, she will make it clear by avoiding her.

Akangsha Rawat :
No, I have some male friends and they do not gossip or bitch at all. So, going by my experience, I would say they are nice human beings who don't talk ill of others. As for the show,I don't get the time to watch and can't comment on it.

Aamir Ali

Aamir Ali (Soumya of Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki) feels he is lucky to be alive, because his car was parked next to Aslam Sheikh's (Congress candidate and sitting corporator from Malwani's ward no 43) car, when Aslam recovered a petrol bomb from his campaigning vehicle (Bomb in Cong candidate's car, MiD DAY, January 31).

Aamir left just few minutes before the bomb was detected. Says Aamir, "If Aslam hadn't found the bomb in the nick of time, it might have exploded. And who knows, I might have been pulling out my car at that time and got blown off!"

Purani dosti

Aamir and Aslam have been friends for nearly 12 years now. "Earlier, I used to stay in Malad and that's how we got friendly. We have kept in touch since. I had gone there to speak at his rally as Aslam had invited me," Aamir says.

Aamir crosses his heart and thanks God that his friend Aslam is safe.
"The city needs true and brave people like Aslam. He has done a lot for the representatives in his area. I am sure that he will win, continue and do even more good work. I cannot go wrong in this," Aamir signs off.

Reena's spooky experience

HARSHADA REGE

Reena Kapoor aka Pari of Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki on SaharaOne says that she is happy that the much successful track that is supposed to result in the death of the protagonist. When questioned why so? The actor says, "It's strange, but every time I shot for the various accidents that were supposed to take place in the protagonist's life, I would have a real accident. It was quiet scary. And I am not a accident-prone person." She adds, "I remember, we had shot for a scene involving fire and the next day when I was shooting for a sari catalogue, the bulb behind me actually burst in my face."
The actor agrees that though Woh... seems to be like another saas-bahu serial, she feels that it has experimented in various ways. "When all other serials were showing big bungalows, we began our serial in a chawls. Now, when we have picked up the horoscope angle in the serial, many serials have taken a similar turn," she points.

W henever she gets a day's break, all she wants to do is to catch up on her sleep. After all, the character Reena Kapoor plays in Sahara One's Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, has been going through a 40-day ordeal. Reena describes her ordeal as, "I don't know how the viewers will react to Pari's situation but I am very happy and relieved that it's finally over." "I have gone through hell shooting those sequences, particularly the last few scenes, where we had to shoot with those huge storm-fans around indicating the blowing wind. We had to appear as if it was all very pleasant but it was far from it. It was really tough." Doesn't she get bored of doing the same stuff ? "At least, I don't have to go through any mental stress because my producers and the unit are very hassle-free." Finally, she says, "I am bound by contract till the end of the year. So, it doesn't make any sense to even think about any other role or serial. Let this end." Does Pari survive the accident? Reena Kapoor gave away the suspense and says, "After a holiday, I will be shooting for a night shift. I am recovering in a hospital while the others will dance around me. I have to just lie down and enjoy the break."
