Tanu Weds Manu actor Jimmy Shergill’s father Satyajit Singh Shergill dies at 90

Bollywood actor Jimmy Shergill is mourning the loss of his father, Satyajit Singh Shergill, who passed away on October 11, 2025, at the age of 90. According to Film Information, the Antim Ardas, or prayer meet, will be held on Tuesday, October 14, at Gurudwara Dhan Pothohar Nagar in Santacruz West, Mumbai.

Jimmy comes from a Punjabi Sikh aristocratic family. Reports suggest that his father had an artistic side, though he largely stayed away from the public eye. The actor often shared glimpses of his personal life in interviews, reflecting on both his family and upbringing.

In an earlier interview with Bombay Times, Jimmy had revealed a difficult phase in his relationship with his family. He recalled, “I wore a turban till I was about 18, till it became really difficult for me to manage washing and wearing one in a hostel. Of course, it was many other things too but I asked my dad casually on one of his trips to my hostel and decided to cut my hair one day. Not just my parents, but my entire family did not talk to me for a year-and-a-half properly after that except for my one mama, who had also cut his hair before me.”

Jimmy Shergill began his film career with the 1996 release Maachis and gained wider recognition with Mohabbatein. Over the years, he has appeared in numerous Hindi and Punjabi films, carving a niche for himself with versatile performances.

His recent work includes the Punjabi film Maa Jaye. He is also set to lend his voice to an animated character in Mahayodhha Rama, which is scheduled to release on October 17, 2025. Jimmy’s career has spanned over two decades, and he continues to be a familiar face in both Hindi and Punjabi cinema.
