Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan's recent visit to singer Shaan's home transformed into a nostalgic journey. The pair reminisced about their early days in the film industry, predating Shaan's fame as a playback singer and Farah's rise as a celebrated choreographer and director. Their discussion centered on the set of "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar" (1992), a film that unexpectedly marked a pivotal moment in both their careers.
Farah Khan recalls Shaan’s first movie
In their chat, Farah reminisced, "Shaan's first movie was 'Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar.'" Shaan chuckled, "Yes, with a saxophone!" Farah added, "And I was a junior dancer." Shaan's sons, who were listening, were visibly surprised.
Farah continued, "I began as an assistant director. When they needed more dancers, I helped with the choreography. Whenever a dancer was missing, I'd be in front of the camera. There's even a scene where Deepak Tijori kisses my cheek — the girl who was supposed to do it refused, so they used me."
Shaan talks about working on the film
Shaan mentioned that he worked on the film for four days, but his scenes were minimal. "After four days of shooting, I was just in a quick shot during a song medley," he said. Farah laughed, "I think it was a Jatin song — I was choreographing it. The production was so low on funds that they even included Jatin in the song!"
Shaan then shared his earnings from the film. "I earned Rs150 per day for four days, while others got Rs 75," he said. Farah, amused, exclaimed, "You got paid? I never did!" She added warmly, "But the film gave me something more valuable than money — it changed my life."
The pair then spontaneously danced to Jatin's "Deewane Hum Pyaar Ke" from the film, laughing about how things had come full circle. The reunion of these industry veterans turned into a heartwarming reflection on their early days, the determination that fueled them, and the passion that existed long before they achieved fame.
