amir Ali's chair act!

While most of the actor's want to multitask and do more than one serial, Aamir Ali, of Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon ki , is somehow very happy just being Saumya. On a rather nostalgic note, he says, "I am happy with my show and t seems like I've come a long way. Initially, I had no plans of getting into acting. "
So, we asked the cute actor as to how did he manage to get his first break in acting? To which he said, "Most of the actors have had their first brush of acting either while doing theatre or small acting roles. But I never indulged in much of that. Looking back, I can remember just one drama which I will never forget for the rest of his life. And in that drama, I enacted the a chair in that. "
Apparently, the drama revolved around a classroom scene and he was to play the role of a chair.

The birthday girl with Anang Desai Co-actors Gayatri Choudhari and Hemant Thatte
Telly actress Reena Kapoor celebrated her birthday on March 17. But a day earlier, her co-actors and crew of Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki held a bash on the sets of the show at SaharaOne, Visage Studios, Jogeshwari.

"They wanted to share my big day with me and hence this surprise festivity, a day before," says Reena who relished the celebrations with her 'serial' family.

While Anang Desai who plays grandpa, blessed her with happiness, Kanika Kohli who is seen as her step-sister in the show, felt that, "Material things apart, it is these blessings that make a difference," she said.

Reena's co-star Aamir Ali wanted her to achieve her long-cherished desire of buying a house this year.

The World Cup fever is on and TV actors want to run home early to catch the cricket matches

GITA HARI

India is known to have some of the most avid cricket enthusiasts. Cricket fever is spreading fast like an epidemic in our country and now that the World Cup in West Indies is on, the frenzy is too much to handle as office goers and students plan to take leave from their respective duties! Housewives too will be glued to the teletube. Here some of our TV actors reveal their take on India's chances of winning the World Cup and whether they will disappear from their serials.
Says cricket-lover Rohit Roy who celebrated when Sourav Ganguly was inducted back into the team, "Being an Indian, I think with my heart and I pretty much feel that we will win this time. Right now, from the way the team is performing, it is very encouraging. Earlier the fun was missing and now with Ganguly in the team, the chances are bright." On taking off from shoots, Rohit says, "No, I will not bunk shooting but I will surely watch the matches after the shoots. Since the game will be in the evening, I will wind up my shoots before that and reach home to catch up."
An actor who still plays gulli cricket with the same verve as a teenager, is Aamir Ali who's a sportsman and loves cricket. About the Indian team he opines, "On papers we are very strong but on field we stumble. This year Sachin seems to be in form and there is a mix of young players. There is hope of being in the top four and reach the semi-finals. About winning, no one can say as it depends on that particular day." About taking an off from shooting, Aamir says, "As they are happening in the evening, I will watch the big matches for sure. We being Indians, cricket is in our blood so we can't miss them." Another bat-weilding participant is Anand Suryavanshi who gives company to Aamir in their weekend matches. He is very optimistic about India winning the coveted Cup, as he puts it, "Our team is peaking. We have had losses in the past. After 24 years, I am positive that with players who are getting their form back, it augurs a win. My hopes are on Dhoni, Sachin, Dravid and Ganguly." Most probably, this could be the last World Cup participation for these four players and Kumble and they will want to perform well and make a point. And yes, Anand will certainly watch all the matches since it is a treat he has been avidly waiting for.
Sachin Shroff of Sindoor is of the view, "If I am shooting late, I will keep a track of the World Cup through radio commentaries." Though he is not so much of a cricket buff, he makes it a point to watch when India plays. As for team India winning, he says, "I have hopes from our team and great expectations from Dhoni. My message to Dhoni is, 'Sabko Dho Dhalna'." Shekhar Suman who is not an avid cricket fan, reveals, "I become a fan when India plays against Pakistan. Now that the Ganguly fiasco is settled, Sachin is in fine form, Dravid and Robin are good bets, India stands a good chance to win."

Prankster No.1

A fortnight ago Koena Mitra played a prank with her friends and colleagues. She messaged them that she was getting engaged on 29 February, from 8 PM onwards and the venue was a suburban hotel. She even added that all those who would be attending should send their address so she could mail them the invite. Many of her friends fell for the prank till they realized the date of the event!

We found out the craziest pranks our television stars have ever played so you can tell us who TVland's prankster No.1 is.

Tasneem Sheikh-Nerurkar (Mohini, Kyunki Saas bhi kabhi Bahu thi)
"During my college days I was a big prankster of my 11th year in Khalsa College. I was the chupa rustom of my class and I remember playing a prank on our Maths teacher. She was very seedhi sadhi and I had put the sticking solution on the chair. She came and sat on it and so her sari tore from the backside!"

Reena Kapoor (Pari, Woh Rehne Wali...)
"I remember when I was in 10th std at Army Public School, Delhi. I was aiming to throw a chalk on my friend but unfortunately it hit my Accounts teacher. Every one knew that I had thrown the chalk but no body uttered a single word. Thank God!"

Ali Merchant (Bharat, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki)
"I remember I was in the 11th std studying at National College, Bandra. I remember once I had ragged a classmate to dance to Aaoo Ayaa. Secondly I remember I had put chewing gum on my history professor Mr. Martin's chair. I used to hate him. Other than that it was mostly all relating to ragging with my friends."

Priyanka Bashish (Naina Singh, Left Right, Left)
"During the time of Holi I used to tell to the colony aunties that please give my ball or cloth lying beneath my window gallery and when they used to bend I used to throw water balloons on them. And after that I used to say 'Happy Holi'.

Sharad Malhotra (Sagar, Banoo Main...)
"I'm a Xaverian, as I have done my schooling and college from Xavier's College, Calcutta. I was in S.Y. B.Com and we decided to rag the freshers. In the end all my friends decided to dress me like a girl. I stood at side of the canteen and as soon as the fresher entered the canteen I went inside and sat beside him and gave cute smile. He got frightened. Gradually I remove my wig and bangles. And after seeing me he was completely shocked and that is the craziest things I have ever done."

Naman Shaw (Pushkar, Kasamh Se)
"The craziest think I have done was not in my college but I lied to my mom by telling her that I'm going to college. But I had actually gone to Delhi to attend my friend's party. I came back in the evening flight and she thought that I had gone to the college."

Sahila Chaddha with husband Nimay Bali (l) Inset: Kamya Punjabi

Kamya Punjabi and Nimay Bali's love story has now taken a new turn. Nimay aka Abhay Parashar (Kamya's husband in Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki) has been thrown out of the show. Reason? Apparently Nimay was having an extra-marital affair with Kamya, which had been affecting their lives in general.

The actors would often start fighting on the sets and the shooting would get delayed in the process. Reportedly, Nimay's wife Sahila Chaddha was also unhappy about Nimay's working in the serial with Kamya. But the actor didn't want leave the show at any cost because he wanted to continue working with Kamya.

Said a source in the production house, "Both Nimay and Kamya would fight on the sets and often create a scene, much to the embarrassment of others. They were not only creating problems for the entire crew, the other actors were unable to give their shots properly. So, the production house ultimately decided to replace Nimay in the show. Nimay has been replaced by Sanjiv Seth in the serial."

When quizzed, Nimay Bali seemed tight-lipped about the issue. He said, "I am in a terrible mess at present. Please leave me alone."

Kamya Punjabi simply refused to believe that Nimay's been ousted from the show. She said, "He is a professional actor and the shooting never got affected because of us. I am sure there must be some other reason for which he has left a successful show like Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki. I have nothing to say beyond that."

Despite us making repeated attempts, Kavita Barjatya, the producer of the show, was unavailable for comment.

Sony feels the heat from Sahara
By: Shaheen Parkar
March 10, 2007

Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki,
All is certainly not well with Sony, and to top it all it is feeling the heat from SaharaOne. The latter has managed to fetch higher TRPs (those magical viewership ratings that make or break a show) than Sony, and this speaks volumes on the number games that TV channels indulge in for the top slot.

With Star and Zee leading the roost at No 1 and No 2 respectively, SaharaOne is gradually taking over the No 3 slot from Sony.

Says Kalyan Sundaram, programming head, SaharaOne, "It is all because of good content. We have done it slowly, but surely.

The Rajshri show Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki has been a channel driver for us and remains in the top slot. Now we have two new additions to the list.

Jay and Kinnari Mehta's Solhah Singaarr has shown a good rise in TRPs along with the latest entrant, Ajai Sinha's Ghar... Ek Sapnaa, which is also slowly making an impact."

Wise moves

Solhah Singaarr
SaharaOne folks feel that the going is good for them in the 9 pm to 10 pm slot. "When the third season of Kaun Banega Crorepati began with Shah Rukh Khan, everyone reacted. But we kept quiet and did not reschedule our line-up.

And even in that time slot there has been a marginal rise in ratings for our shows," says Sundaram.

The channel attributes their good showing to their loyal viewers. "We have always had good following for Woh Rehne…, now even Solhah Singarr and Ghar.. Ek Sapnaa are picking up good following," adds Sundaram. "We would like to believe that this will be the scenario for a long time to come now," he adds.

Rescheduling spree

Ghar... Ek Sapnaa
For Sony, which has just axed Anuj Saxena's Kulvaddhu as reported 'Abrupt end for Kulvaddhu' (Hitlist, March 8), the channel's line-up of soaps is being rescheduled for Smriti Z Irani's Viruddh, which begins from March 26 in the 9.30 pm slot.

Thodi Khushi Thode Gham will now be rescheduled to 8.30 pm to replace Kulvaddhu, with Ek Ladki Anjaani Si at 9 pm, Durgesh Nandinii at 10 pm and Jeete Hi Jiske Liye at 10.30 pm.

Presently, it appears that Sony's attempts at daily soaps is not working wonders. Their reality shows like Indian Idol, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and most recent Bigg Boss did generate a lot of curiosity and hype but in the long run that doesn't generate revenues the way tear-jerker soaps do.

Says a producer on condition of anoymity, "Sony folks have been interfering a lot with the production houses and there are a lot of squabbles among them. Obviously, all this is having a telling effect on the viewership."

Aamna's show on Sony put off

The Film Farm project which was talked about as Aamna Sharif's big ticket on Sony post Kahiin To Hoga has now been postponed indefinitely.

It is learnt that the cast has already been informed about it. There was also a buzz that post his exit from Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Cezanne Khan was also supposed to be a part of the project. Apparently, it was all just idle talk.

Leicester is becoming an ideal setting for Bollywood film makers as another production company comes to town to film their latest Bollywood blockbuster.

A new Bollywood blockbuster is being shot at the University of Leicester and in the city and county.

Raakh, which means Ashes, is being described as a 'sophisticated gangster movie' and stars Sohail Khan, the brother of Bollywood megastar Salman Khan.

Organiser and Promoter

Promoters of the film have been in discussion with the University of Leicester where part of the film will be shot. The University of Leicester was also the venue of the very first film to be shot in the East Midlands.

Organiser & Promoter Dipesh Majithia of Siddhi Entertainments & Productions(UK) said over 50% of the film will be shot in Leicester over a period of two-and-a-half weeks.

Raakh stars Isha Koppikar, Sohail Khan, Mithun Ckakraborty and Aamir Ali. It is directed by Hansal Mehta.

Mr Majithia said: "Most of the second half of the film is being shot in Leicester- the director is delighted with the city and county. Bollywood fans are tired of seeing the familiar sites of Marble Arch and Trafalgar Square - Leicester's Clock Tower is what they haven't seen before!"

If Aamir Ali had been Abhay Kapoor....

Aamir Ali's only claim to TV fame has been Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii.

But there was a time once when he was Nausheen Alii Sardar's boyfriend, a time when both were into modelling. When Nausheen bagged the title role in Kkusum, she wanted him to play Abhay Kapoor. But then, we have it on authority that Ekta was clear about having Anuj Saxena for the role of Abhay. That spelt the end of Nausheen's dreams of having Aamir as her on screen hero.
After Kkusum became a huge hit, Nausheen and Aamir broke off and Vikas Kalantri came into the picture, when Nausheen shot with him and Anuj Saxena for a music video, and she played Vikas's Bhabhi. The reason why Nausheen and Aamir Ali broke off is not known. If Aamir Ali was selected to play Abhay Kapoor then he would have been in a different league in the television industry. Everyone knows that one role of Abhay Kapoor has taken Anuj Saxena places.

Not many however know that Kkusum is one show where most stars today worked once upon a time. The list includes Hiten Tejwani, Tassnim Sheikh, Moonmoon, Manish Goel, Narayani Shastri, Aashish Kaul, Shweta Kawaatra, Manav Gohil...phew! Aamir's really missed the chance of being part of the Kkusum brigade!

The Rajashri soap Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki? is slowly getting steady with the TRP but looks like it will take some time to challenge the reigning saas-bahu sagas. To increase the visibility factor, Sahara One, which airs the serial at 9 pm Monday to Thursday, has launched the Real Life Rani Contest, inviting viewers to write in with their own bittersweet stories from life. The prize could be a date with Rani, played by Reena Kapoor, and much more.

?My character is bubbly and delicate, yet very strong. She comes from an affluent background but gets married to a middle-class family. It?s all about how she takes it in her stride,? says Reena, who, some may remember, had played Preity Zinta?s friend in Kundan Shah?s Kya Kehna. To clinch the coveted role of Rani, Reena admits to having gone through a round of auditions, elbowing out ?some 700 girls?.

The man she gets married to is the handsome Arjun Punj, whose claim to fame is the popular Zee serial Sanjeevani and a couple of music videos. ?The brief from Sooraj Barjatya is to do a very controlled kind of acting. He sees the rushes and dismisses scenes where there?s an excess,? says Arjun, waiting to make the switch to Bollywood.
