Sandipan Dalal

Last week, Aamir Ali (aka Saumya of Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki) got involved in a street brawl at Lokhandwala in Andheri (West) when he confronted two bikers teasing young women on the road. What started off with the actor giving an earful to the offenders soon saw him landing up exchanging blows with them. At the end of the tiff, however, the actor could get the brats apologise to the women. Talking about the incident Aamir says, " Yes it was a very unfortunate incident. I was driving down when I saw these guys jeering at these two girls. I don't know why most people chose to ignore it including the girls. I couldn't resist myself from intervening and teaching the boys a lesson."

Instead of apologising the wayward men started hurling abuses and later picked up a fight. Says Aamir, "They heckled and abused me. I just couldn't resist myself from slapping those two guys." Nevertheless, the actor achieved his purpose when the men apologised. Says Aamir, "In such cases you don't have the time to rush to the nearest police chowky. Either you volunteer to teach these men a lesson or simply turn a blind eye. I think it's the duty of any citizen to come forward and help fellow-citizens in distress."

At the career front, ever since the actor joined the cast of Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki the TRPs have shown a marked improvement. In fact, the actor is presently, facing a deluge of offers. Aamir, who had previously turned down Kulvaddhu, says "God has been kind and I'm glad that people like the chain of incidents involving Pari and Saumya on the show." Ask him about the storyline in the coming weeks and he says, "There's going to be a new twist in the Pari-Saumya love story. And of course, you will see me sobbing like a cry baby."

Sahara One breathing down Sony's neck

By SUJATHA SHREEDHARAN
Indiantelevision.com Team

(1 March 2007 2:00 pm)

MUMBAI: While Star Plus' KBC wars engage television audiences, prime
time viewership has been undergoing yet another churn. The
rejuvenation of Zee TV has seen its ascent as a very strong No 2
while Sony Entertainment is looking increasingly insecure in the
third position.

The channel is now seeing stiff competition and it's coming from a
rather unsuspecting source! Sahara One has sneaked up in the
ratings, almost unbalancing the Sony network's flagship channel Set.
The question is, will it manage a complete coup?

A few numbers to mull over: A look at Sahara One's channel share
shows a gradual increase from 5 per cent in Jul-August '06 to 9 per
cent at year ending. (15 Dec - 30 Dec TG CS 4+ Yrs Market: HSM).
Sony, meanwhile, has seen its channel share fluctuate between 12 and
13 per cent in the same period.

The latest Tam data for Jan '07 pegged Sony's channel share at 11
per cent with a further decline at 9 per cent (1 Feb - 17 Feb) while
Sahara One is pegged at 7 per cent, a increase in one per cent over
the past month. (1 Feb - 17 Feb TG CS 4+ Yrs Mkt: HSM).

The consistent feature of Sahara One's rise has been the prime time
show Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki, the channel's flagship show launched
in May 2005. The show took a 20 year leap in mid 2006 and has since
seen increasing viewership.

In fact Tam ratings for Week - 28/01/07 to 03/02/07 saw WRWMK peak
with a 2 TVR (TG CS 4+ Yrs) and appear twice in the Top 100 while
Sony is nowhere in the picture. The next week (04/02/2007 to
10/02/2007) it fared even better, registering four times in the Top
100 while Sony was again nowhere in the picture. Data for the latest
week (11/02/2007 to 17/02/2007) however, sees Sahara's lead soap
dipping to 1.9 TVR and Sony clawing its way back into the Top 100
thanks to old warhorse CID with a 1.8 TVR.

Sahila-Nimai win best couple award

Sahila Chadha and Nimai Bali

Ironically, their marriage was under threat allegedly due to actor Kamya Punjabi

Curiously enough, former Bollywood actor Sahila Chadha and her TV actor husband Nimai Bali ('CID' and 'Woh Rehnewali Mehlon Ki'), were recently honoured by the 'Hum Log' foundation with trophies on the occasion of Mahashivratri Awards. The awards were given for them being 'a well-matched showbiz couple'. This seems ironical, coming close on the heels of the allegations that Nimai was seriously involved with his former co-actor Kamya Punjabi.

Reacting to allegations Sahila says indignantly, "Yes, there has been a turbulent phase in our marital life. But by God's grace our marriage is rock-steady. Nimai being handsome, desperate women throw themselves at him and even try to grab publicity."

Sahila elaborates, "I strongly believe in Lord Shiva, which is why both Nimai and me attend the Shivratri event every year. Now, everything is back to normal. We are planning to celebrate Holi this weekend with our little daughter Princess."

Sahila adds, "There may be speed-breakers in a marriage but you move on reconciling with your priorities." Sahila has acted in over a dozen movies including 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun'.

How do telly stars de-stress

Saif Ali Khan is back home, safe and sound and thank God for that. But his sudden illness brings upfront the high level of stress that the Bollywood and television actors go through. And yet as Shah Rukh Khan says, every actor knows that the stakes are high, so one just has to learn how to deal with the stress. Here, we check with the telly stars how they deal with the stress.

Aamir Ali
(Soumya, Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon ki)
"Since I work for 12 hours daily, stress has become my constant companion. I try to de-stress myself through night-outs and getting good sleep. At the moment I have no time to work-out, but I guess it's one of the best ways to keep the stress away."

Jennifer Winset
(Sneha, Kasauti Zindagi Kay)
"Generally I don't stress, but if I reach home early I prefer to solve the crossword, reading novels. Recently I read a novel called "Who will cry when you die" written by Robin Sharma. Sometimes I read spiritual books like a self help guide.

Rajshree Thakur
(Saloni, Saat Phere)
"I shoot for 14 hours daily. Stress is part of the stars' life and we have to face that. To overcome I do yoga especially meditation. It helps me to concentrate on my work load and after that I feel relaxed, calm."

Nigaar Khan
(Ayesha, Zaara-Pyaar Ki Saugat)
"Thankfully I consume lots of orange juice which ensures that I am not completely stressed out. At the moment I am doing a comedy show called Yes Boss which comes on Sab T.V. and it keeps me smiling all the time. So, whatever stress I experience is normal and pretty healthy. I never get fearful about things."

Rohit Roy
(Rahul Lamba, Virassat)
"Thankfully I don't stress easily but sometimes when I am stressed out physically I go to gym and do warm up exercises to destress but mentally I'm very bindas. If things are not happening I just let it go because if I'm stressed I get a huge headache."

Pulkit Samrat
(Lakshya, Kyunki...)
"Frankly speaking I shoot 24/7. From 10 in the morning to 9 in the night so I get hardly any time to relax. But I'm suffering from severe back and I'm taking pain killers to resist my pain. My time for easing up comes after 10 in the night. I generally talk with my mother, who is my support system."

Pati Patni Aur Kamya!

Sahila Chaddha lashes out at 'other woman' Kamya Punjabi, who she
says is trying to break her marriage with Nimai Bali. BT tracks the
extramarital tale that has just got murkier

GITA HARI

It's finally over and the wife is relieved. We are talking about
Nimai Bali's on-the-side affair with his co-star Kamya Punjabi of
Woh Rehne Wali Mehelon Ki. There were reports recently of Kamya,
who's estranged from her husband, and Nimai spending a lot of time
together and getting really close top each other. Nimai's wife
Sahila Chaddha (who has acted in films like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun,
Maa, etc) is furious with the other woman. When did she come to know
about her husband's relationship with his co-star?
"I had this feeling for quite some time but since I was too busy
concentrating on my work, I did not take it seriously as I trusted
my husband. But it got out of hand when Kamya asked Nimai to leave
me and our daughter," says Sahila.
Was there a problem between the husband and wife here? "No, I did
not fight with Nimai," says Sahila. "I know that he too is to be
blamed, so I told him if he feels she is the right woman for him,
then he should leave me. There is no point in continuing a dead
marriage."
Talking about the affair, Nimai (who became popular on TV as
Inspector Pratap of CID) admits, "Yes, it's true that I got
emotionally attached to Kamya. She played my wife in Woh... and
tried to take the place in real life too. She came too strong on me
and asked me to marry her. One of them had to go and I love Sahila
very much. I realised my mistake and now I am over with it and back
to my family. No one can shake my marriage."
Though his role was shaping up well, Nimai had to quit the serial
due to the discomfort between them. After that, Kamya apparently
tried to get in touch with Nimai after which she came to his
building. Says Sahila, "She went on honking the car. Then she came
up to our gate and kept banging on the the gate. I put my foot down
and told her firmly to lay off my husband before I make it messy for
her. Later, she apologised and promised never to meet my husband. I
warned her from coming to my house ever again. She had her fun. Now
she better keep away." Is their fiveyear-old daughter Princess
affected by it? "No. I kept her out of this mess. She is not aware
of the happenings in the house," says Sahila Chaddha. Meanwhile,
Kamya Punjabi refused to comment. "This is my personal life. I don't
care about what some people have to say. They will continue barking.
The fact is that people don't speak the truth. They always distort
facts. They try to project themselves before the media as something
that they are not," is all she was willing to say.

Poonam's family connections!

Poonam Joshi is one of the so many Poonams in the industry which include Poonam Gulati, Poonam Dhillon and Poonam Narula. What sets her apart is that she has Manasi Joshi Roy and Sharman Joshi as her first cousins and Rohit Roy as brother-inlaw. The interesting thing is she has been in the industry since more than three years yet only recently people have come to know about her family background. So with a cousin like Manasi and brother-in-law like Rohit who has years of professional experience, the guidance for Poonam must be just a call away. Poonam can vouch for the fact that acting runs in the family and it is always nice to have your folks in the same industry!

Kamya: I love Nimai!
By: Vickey Lalwani
Photographer: A hitList Correspondent
February 23, 2007
What could have been a day to kick off a new life for TV actress Kamya Punjabi turned into a nightmare.

Kamya has been seeing Sanjay Dutt's cousin Nimai Bali since October 2006, and they'd even made plans to move in together on Tuesday (February 20).

But Nimai's wife, actress Sahila Chaddha, found out about their plans and threatened to kill Kamya if she didn't leave her husband alone.

Blame the wife

Kamya's says, "On Tuesday, Nimai decided to leave Sahila and move in with me. I was waiting in a car outside his home in Seven Bungalows, while he went to inform Sahila about his decision.

Sahila came running out of the house and created a big scene. She had a major showdown with me and said that she would kill me.

She called me a whore and broke the windshield of my car. Nimai has been in an unhappy marriage with her, so what right does she have to behave this way with me?"

Refusing to take the blame for Nimai's marriage breaking up, Kamya explains, "Sahila is an aggressive woman, and they've been having problems for a long time.

When Nimai went to say goodbye, she used her daughter to emotionally blackmail him. She's taken out her fury on her daughter in the past too. I don't know what exactly happened inside but after that, Nimai got very scared.

I told him that it is better if we control ourselves and take a step back. The decision has been taken for the welfare of his child."

Kamya, who has just split from her husband Bunty Negi, adds, "Bunty has gone to town stating that I was dating Nimai before we parted ways.

That is a lie. Bunty and I parted ways in August, while Nimai and I got together only in October. I have been covering up Bunty's aggressive and over-possessive behaviour, but I am now admitting that he used to physically abuse me often.

He would even come to the sets, tear my clothes and take me home forcibly. He didn't want me to work in this industry."

I don't care

Kamya is unapologetic about her relationship with the much-married Nimai. "I am no longer afraid to admit that I love Nimai and he feels the same for me.

So what if he is married? So what if he has a five-year-old daughter? You can't help who you fall in love with. It could be a married man or an older man; you can't decide who you will fall in love with."

Kamya says that an hour before, Sahila went berserk, Nimai had even met her parents. "We were going to start living together from Tuesday and my parents have no reservations about him.

They are happy with my decision. But I guess I am always going to be unlucky in love," Kamya concludes. Sahila and Nimai remained unavailable for comment despite repeated attempts

'Marrying Kamya was a mistake'
By: Shaheen Parkar
Photographer: A hitList Correspondent
February 22, 2007

Kamya Punjabi

All this while, Bunty Negi, an assistant director on Vishesh Films' in-the-making project Showbiz, preferred to maintain a stoic silence about his failed marriage to telly actress Kamya Punjabi (Dulhann, Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki).

Negi, who is also into the lights business for Bollywood, did not want to indulge in mud-slinging. However, after Kamya broke her silence about their unsuccessful marriage (My marriage is over, HiTLIST, February 8), he wants to clear the air about what went wrong between Kamya and him.

Bunty first met Pinky ("That is Kamya's real name," he says) on the sets of Vashu Bhagnani's Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Keerti Reddy. "Kamya began as a group dancer in films.

She was part of choreographer Ahmed Khan's troupe and featured in Tera Jadoo's title track. I was doing the lights for the film.

You can also see her in Kaho Na Pyar Hai. She is in the troupe dancing to the Pyar ki kashti track. She also tried her hand in south films before television happened," points out Bunty.

Filmi shaadi

The couple went around for four years and on November 24, 2005 suddenly decided to tie the knot. "It was in true filmi fashion; we were deeply in love. We went to a mandir in Bandra and got married.

I told my family only afterwards that we had tied the knot. Later, we went to court and registered it. I was only 23. Now when I look back, I realise my marriage was a big mistake.

I didn't listen to anyone, so I regret this moment the most. There were people who warned me against marrying a dancer. There were choreographers who told me to stay away but I did not listen. I was totally besotted by her."

Though the couple remained married for two years, it turned into a rocky affair within months. "Initially, we stayed with our folks in Bandra and then moved to our home in Kandivili. She still stays in that house.

It began with small arguments, but our first big tiff was when she went off to Muscat to do a play without even telling me. She remained inaccessible for days.

She did not even bother to tell me she was travelling abroad! She kept on mixing her personal life with her professional life. She would tell me people are linking her with her co-stars on the sets and things like that."

Midnight drama

When things went bad, he moved back with his folks in Bandra. About the infamous slapping incident in Kandivili a while back, Bunty claims, "Yes, there was a verbal duel we had in the wee hours of the morning on the road.

I pushed her, as I was extremely angry. She was with a struggling actor at that time. He was a friend of her co-star from Reth. She kept on defending this guy and that infuriated me."

Bunty claims the main reason why they headed for splitsville was because of her growing friendship with her Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki co-actor Nimai Bali. "She would talk to him for hours and would insist that it was work-related.

I cautioned her several times, saying that he is married and has a child, but it was in vain. People would call me saying that they would see her with Nimai all the time. After this, there was no point in talking or settling our differences. We mutually agreed to part ways."

Now Bunty wants to move on from this failed marriage. "I want to concentrate on direction now. My brother and uncle look after the lights business. I am also writing a script and hope to direct it next year. I want to work hard and forget this dark chapter in my life."

How silly a rumour can be!

Be it films or television, gossip, rumours is something that the entertainment industry thrives on.

Prashant Golecha checked out with select actors from the television brigade as to what is the worst hearsay they heard about themselves and what was their reaction on hearing it (almost all of them had a good laugh)

Tassnim Sheikh Nerulkar

The worst rumour I've heard:
My husband is having an affair with one of my co-stars

My reaction-
I retorted saying that then I will have a sexy souten and laughed it off

Kamya Punjabi

The worst rumour I've heard:
That I am seeing my co-star from one of the shows.

My reaction -
I laughed and commented 'till now it has not happened so give me some time, may be it will happen!

Aamir Ali

The worst rumour I've heard:
That I'm seeing a guy!

My reaction:
I laughed it off as it was totally baseless

Nausheen Ali Sardar

The worst rumour I've heard:
During Kkusum days when I went through an-onscreen divorce with Abhay (Anuj Saxena), people in my building used to murmur that I am actually getting divorced

My reaction-
I ended up laughing

Rucha Gujrati

The worst rumour I've heard-
That I am jealous of Aashka Goradia and I copied her hairstyle

My reaction-
Controversy se publicity to mil rahi hai atleast. So I enjoyed the publicity.

Geetanjali Tikekar

The worst rumour I've heard -
That Shweta Tiwari and I don't get along

My reaction-
We were shocked and ignored the matter and we are still friends

Ashiesh Roy

The worst rumour I've heard-
That I am dating actress Niaar Z. Khan

My reaction -

Aamir's not worried about SRK!

His mother's prayers have worked wonders for his show, says Aamir Ali

HARSHADA REGE

Aamir Ali is happy that Shah Rukh Khan's presence on the small screen hasn't affected the TRPs of SaharaOne's Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki. "When I got to know that the timing of KBC and Woh... are going to clash, I was a bit worried. The serial had started picking up around that time and something like this could have upset the balance. But thankfully the TRPs have not only remained the same, they have even gone up," he says. But the actor isn't willing to take any credit for the upswing.
He says, "My mom has been a huge SRK fan and she was very excited that he was going to come on TV. And I was keen to find out whether she prefers to watch KBC over Woh..., but I found out that she watches Woh... religiously till 9.30 and then switches over to KBC," he laughs. He adds, "In fact, I had asked my mom to pray for me. And her prayers seem to have worked. If SRK has his fans, I have my mom's prayers," he laughs.
But on a serious note, he adds that the romantic track seems to have done the trick for this show. "This is not a typical saas-bahu drama. It's more of romance and that seems to have caught the audiences' attention," says Aamir. And while on-screen romance is going great guns, the same can't be said for Aamir off screen. "Maybe deep down I am commitment phobic. I think on a subconcious level, I am not willing to give up the kind of freedom I have," he says. But that doesn't mean Aamir has not been linked with girls in the industry. The last person whom Aamir was linked to was Sanjeeda. "I am linked to people I know, so I don't know how to react to them," he laughs.
