I don't think he knew what exactly happens in the process... Just knew that it was humiliating for someone who was unmarried... Even six year olds know that... Especially if you have TV serial watching grandmas or moms...

Ah, I see. I am curious as to when and how South Asians, especially those in villages, are taught about sex and reproduction. In cities and towns, do you have classes about it in school? In villages, does the mother or any other close female relative tell a young bride about it right before her wedding?

Gaguwal must be quite progressive, seeing as Gunjan and Pammi knew all about contraceptive pills.

We have sexual education from eighth grade nowadays. Awareness classes about molestation from very young age these days... By the time a girl starts menstrual cycle mothers or other elder women in the family explains a bit... Kids usually find out by the age of 12 thanks to movies and serials they know what to search for in the dictionary or encyclopedia... Schools usually arrange for awareness classes and counsellors for five year olds onwards... Nowadays it's necessary and government also takes initiatives... Thanks to TV kids understand things kids like them didn't understand a decade ago...

Eight grade? How old are you then?
We get it in year 6, usually. I have a friend who got it in year 4 which is way too early. She was only 8 or 9!

By eighth grade I meant we have it in the textbooks around that time... We are made aware about molestation from five years old onwards... But they don't explain about the actual act at that time...

13? I guess that's a good age. It was forced down me at 11 which is the norm over here.

I don't know how it is in other South Asian countries, but Indian metropolitan cities are very modern. I knew all about it at the age of 10. And in "those times we didn't even have much access to the internet.
Of course, I got to know of this on my own. I studied in an all girls' school and I was in the boarding. So that made a difference, maybe.
Officially, we have sex education in school from the age of 13. But by then most people know all the details. Some probably even have practical knowledge.
