So you guys don't understand the word sanitary?

Anyway, before my mum moved to the UK, she had to roll up pieces of old sari and use it as sanitary towels. Gross.

we do understand the word sanitary. We just don't use as it's understood in my family.

I'm hearing the word napkin in a very long time.
We use pads for the one we use during our periods and tissue for everything else - napkins, toilet rolls, kitchen rolls, the ones used to blow one's nose...
Actually napkins sound very weird to my ears!

I still don't get what you mean by this sentence? Do you mean that it's embarrassing to use the word sanitary?

No what she means is that we don't use the word sanitary as sanitary napkins is a very formal way of calling it. In casual conversations it is usually called pads or napkins. Mostly pads.
