We had the reproduction system in 8th standard. All the stuff about ovaries and eggs stuff. No one actually explained what that was. Our teacher only read out from the books. Explained the female reproduction organs. No mention of sex or how a girl gets pregnant or anything. We basically knew that's something gets a girl pregnant. What we had no idea.

I was aware of it because my mum had given me the talk when I was about 10. About sex and periods. And what actually happens to a body during periods.

I remember one episode when people from Whisper had come to our school to promote their products. And to raise general awareness about sanitary napkins. All the girls were collected from our standard and taken to our library. They demonstrated the absorption capacity of each variety of napkins and stuff. We are also given complimentary packets of napkins. The basic point was how to smuggle those packets in a classroom because the boys were present in class. I remember hiding the packet in my pocket. And when the all curious boys asked us why we were taken outside from lecture we had told them that they had taken us to see a movie.
Even our teachers had encouraged us to hide those packets in our pockets. Talking sex was a taboo.

I respect my teachers and they were all amazing. But some were very old fashion. I remember on annual school picnic we had visited a temple. I was not allowed to enter the temple as I had had my periods. I remember arguing very much and in the end being very reluctantly allowed inside by our teacher. She was an old lady nearing her retirement. And I was a tomboy when I was in school. I have very few girlfriends. My group mostly consisted of boys. And since I had just about started getting my periods my mum had informed that teacher about it. So when we near ed the temple she pulled me aside and told me to wait outside. We had this conversation in very hushed tones. I remember a few of my guy friends also arguing with her because they thought she was punishing me. Situation was extremely funny for me and very awkward for her.

I actually don't remember any such instances. I was in an all girls school and it was no big deal carrying around sanitary pads in our hands.
I missed out on all the fun, I suppose 😆
We could talk everything in the open and the teachers were always pretty chilled out 😆
I only remember one instance where we actually lectured. It was before our 10std graduation. As it was a Christian school, we had to wear white sarees. This one teacher lectured us not to wear our sarees below our navels so as not to attract the attention of the chaat waala and the xerox shop waala! 🤣
And then I went on to do my 11th and 12th in another school. It was the most regressive school I have come across. The principal was an a*shole who would give us derogatory looks even when we were "caught talking to boys.
There was a "couple in our class who were caught smooching and then that was the end of everything for all us girls.
We were taken separately and lectured on how to behave ourselves around boys. But the boys got no such lectures. And these people call themselves teachers 🤢

During tenth grade a fight between a girl and a boy occurred over a chocolate... He pulled out her bag and started searching for the chocolate... She had napkins wrapped up in newspapers in it. He touched it and she was like "don't pull it out!!!!". He understood and left it. But then he threatened her that if she didn't return the chocolate he'll pull it out. And she was like "fine, pull it out... I said pull it out... IF YOU HAVE GUTS PULL IT OUT... Why are you not pulling it out???".I was watching the whole drama and could barely contain my laughter at his expression... The poor guy looked like he would faint... He was trapped... He left the bag and with a highly embarrassed face he walked out...
We never said anything else about it and it was forgotten as a thing between friends... Imagine what a retro teacher might have thought if she heard it..😆
My best friend is a boy... His girlfriend once told him about her periods... Then I mentioned to him that she won't be able to come as she's sick... I didn't mention that it's her monthly cycle... And his reaction was "Oh, you girls have it really hard don't you..." I wondered about his casual reaction and the change in the mentality of guys about discussing periods... Ofcourse all the aunties might faint 🤣

Hi Preeti!
Yes, Megha. The attitude with guys regarding periods has changed. It's no big deal for them. I have a friend who even bought sanitary pads for his friend, who's a girl (lol!) because she was embarrassed to do it because the shop keeper was a guy
I don't know if the attitude of the guys that has changed. Sometimes I feel they have never really cared about it in the first place and the overreaction of the society towards this has finally taken a toll on the guys and now they are like to hell with all the silliness!

Napkins? Is that what you guys call them? Almost everyone uses tampons here but it's a taboo for Muslim girls. My mother thinks tampons are dirty.
