Confession: Dark fascinates me. and my idea of dark is little twisted. it is not.. angsty, hormonal heroes with sob stories and issues taking there frustrations of innocent girls, pinning them on walls and that being passed as romance. nopes.. i like my dark characters to be unapologetically bad ass. no excuses, justifications, reasons given. no effs given or taken.
no damn given at all.
take it or leave it.
for me giving reasons or excuses for being who they are take away their aura of darkness. (i bet i made no sense).
every dark character has some sad story, heart rendering past, reason to be who they are. but taking that past in their strides and wearing their attitude on sleeves is what separates ordinary grey shaded ones from stunningly dark shaded ones.

but there is being dark and then there is being a horrid human being.
unfortunately Suraj as a character fell into latter category lot many times. So why am i so fascinated with this character?
because of the actor who went beyond the script, risen over it and added whole new dimensions, nuances and layers to the character. his genuinely good looks are merely icecream, chocolate sauce and roasted nuts topping on the sizzling brownie. but what really scores here is his raw and sheer acting prowess. take him out of the equation and Suraj won't be even 2 percent of what he is.

i just chanced upon him and the girl; chakor one fine day... and fell in love. there is just something about them together that .. connects.
and then went back and tried to be a part of their journey from beginning. but must say it is indeed a very difficult ship to sail.
he stands for lot many things i hold abhorrent.
him and her together feels wrong on so many levels of ethics and morality.
yet... together they just make... sense. beauty. togetherness.
she is not perfect.
he is antithesis of perfection.. but throw them together and they are just.. imperfectly perfect.
like those jumbled pieces of puzzle who on their own makes no sense. but fit them together and you get a kaleidoscopic beautiful picture.

more than what he was, what he is.. what i find fascinating is .. what he could be!

i hate the concept of good girl taking a brush and white paint on a bad boy and making honest good citizen out of him.
that's why i am rooting for Suraj. because he has changed and is changing. NOT for xyz or Chakor but simply he feels like being who he is. (well he still knocks down a peg (make that two pegs) of daaru and can even spike her drink for her own good. so yeah).

he needs to haul himself through coals for all his kaands and the hurt he piled on the girl.. but i would hate it if he goes for an entire personality change.
i love her the way she is. difficult, impossible and beautiful and all.
i am so looking forward for their journey.
their story.
their ever after... that of two flawed beings coming together and making that one imperfectly flawed and impossibly beautiful love story.

well i tried to be a part of the journey of Suraj and Chakor since beginning of the leap but the water was too torrid and turbulent not to mention turbid so ended up ff'ing through lot many difficult meanders. to cut a long story short: my ship has chickened out of the horrid weather and murky waters mostly.
so i am not the best person to analyze the other equations in this story. i tried once. needless to say was a spectacular failure there. so no gonna venture there again.
i will be sticking to only Suraj and Chakor here.
and their story... just them.

sorry aradhana🤗.. i would have loved to analyze our SuKor right from the beginning of the leap but since i was surfing, vaulting and leaping over all the difficult patches i don't think i will be able to do justice to those onerous scenarios.

so for now i am simply sticking to what i call.. melting moments..
of Suraj and Chakor.. SuKor.
the moments that made me go.. hmmm..
*awww; mush; dreamy eyed; heart humming.. hummm..*

what i would count as beautiful, magical and memorable milestones of the journey of a forbidden, terribly flawed yet imperfectly perfect and a truly beautiful love story.

From whatever scenes i have seen till this date i was under assumption that what Suraj felt for Chakor was only hatred compounded with awareness/attraction.
his meanness, cruelty, casual dismissal of her and her feelings, the disregard, the neglect and even viciousness at times made me think that way.

and then this scene happened.

Dubai Sheikh man friday offers 50 crores to Suraj to 'sell' Chakor to his boss.
and then our man reacts.
with barely restrained violence.

'Humhari biwi ko khareedga!'

and then that rage: aakhen phod denge.
DARE you look at her!

though later he tells Chakor that he refused the offer for imli's sake and that he would hate to hurt imli the fact that he lashed out with such a primitive rage has got volumes to tell.

my biwi.
don't even dare to think about it.
don't even dare to so much as look at her.

or i'll bury you six feet under. right here! right now.

Get out and stay out!

that scene stood out for me for being the first milestone in showing that layer of Suraj which was buried under all the dark and murky ones.
his feelings of primal protective instincts for Chakor. call it being territorial or possessive or simply as being an alpha man.. the raw and extreme extent of those reactions for the girl he used to care a damn... hmmm.

ok a special shout-out to this scene.

Chakor is planning and organizing date for imvaan and sees Suraj sloshed and sleeping nearby on the rocky crops. she wakes him up and he goes..
you? i have set you free right! and of all the places you found this place to celebrate your freedom?😆.

they bicker as usual but what stood out in this scene is that one dialogue for me.

"you are back. oh good then! i was wondering who i am going to fight with!"

"chalo achha hi hai wapas aagayi. hum bhi soch rahe the ki ladenge kiske saath!"

awww..
how sweet is that!
ladnekeliye hi sahi our guy needs his girl.
me likey!

27/sep/2016.

Chakor's emotional breakdown after setting Vivaan free.

her breakdown, blaming Suraj, him silently witnessing her pain, bearing her harsh words and accusations, supporting her, sympathizing with her, she breaking down completely holding onto him, him gently lifting her and carrying her home..
well the entire scene is quite poignant but what touched me most is the later scene.

Chakor resting her head on his shoulder still broken and bleeding.
and him letting her.
too broken entities sitting together and simply.. being with each other.

then they go on mission imvaan almost immediately.. but that split second scene of being with each other is.. priceless.

and then the guy went on .. humhe divorce chahiye. abhi ke abhi.
sadda haqq etthe rakh.
right here. right now.
where are the toys? let me throw them off the pram.
divorce ahoy.
satyagrah!
halla bol.
oh well! you get my point.

and i face palmed. and was wondering which is the heaviest thing that i could chuck at his thick head.
though in hindsight watching the epis all over again got a new perspective as to why he went on that mode.
the man was simply fed up of all the relationships and the mush and mess up associated with them. since Chakor is the only constant and major relation in his life at that moment he wanted out.
kick her out of his life too and he shall be free. to live his life on his own terms all over again.
his way of showing middle finger to the emotions and bonds he thinks who failed him.

that is a piss poor excuse for the way he treated and humiliated the girl. so no justifications.

and then 11 oct happened.
he finally got her signs on his precious divorce papers. she ended up using his shoulder as pad to put the papers on and sign it. mere dorks!

and then he said..
jis din tumse humhe puri tarah chutkara milega woh din humhari zindagi ka sabse khushi wala din hoga.
lekin..

now this is my favourite.. dil goes hummm part.

lekin tumhare jaane ka dukh humhe bohot dino tak rahega. tumse ladneki aadat jo hogayi hai.

Chakor says.. humhe bhi tumse ladne ki aadat hogayi hai.

and that casual smile of his at that.

one of my favourite milestones.❤️

and then KN came back and unleashed hell upon our unsuspecting Sukor.
and imvaan too.

and then teams were formed to deal with the monster.

Suraj and imli joins team KN being vibhishan.
and Chakor promptly misunderstands them and sunaos a good deal to Suraj when he tries to tell her the truth. even bangs the door right on his face😆.
well our man doesn't gives up and finally gets his words inside her stubborn head by making her listen to him forcibly.
and they team up. finally.

from foes to partners.. a long journey.

Chakor wants to check the papers that Ragini made the villagers to sign and Suraj drives her to Ragini's office for this mission.
and his jeep breaks down midway. and our girl being the girl she is.. lectures him again while he is trying to fix the engine.
and he goes.. list out my mistakes later. how about helping me first.
and then she sees his face and bursts into giggle seeing the oil smudges on that face courtesy his mechanic job at that moment.
and says...

you are hatta katta khoobsurat guy. you can handle this one your own. i got to go.
and bounces off from there to her mission.

and he semi glares at her retreating back.
pagal ladki.

then the realization dawns upon him.
Khoobsurat? she called me Khoobsurat.

he immediately checks the jeep mirrors to confirm his err 'khoobsurati' and sees his smudges wala face that time.
and then huffs and puffs again in peeve.
humhara mazzaaq udaae bine iska din khatam nahi hota.

the entire adorability quotient of this scene is aww..
he looked and acted like a young teenager dork who just got paid a compliment by a pricy diva of his class. the girl he has been eyeing for long.
and his is pretty pleased about it... the entire 'khoobsurat' sequence.

hmmm.. so the girl's words especially good ones for him affects him eh!

Karvachaut scene:

the entire sequence is so beautiful in so many ways.
so let us start from the beginning.

he is drinking his daaru sitting on the bonnet of his jeep and she walks onto him.
he looks at her and promptly hides his bottle. the look of fear on his face😆.

either:
1. he fears (as he later tells her when she digs out the bottle from its hiding place and confronts him) her lectures.
2. he values her sentiments that he shouldn't be drinking (atleast not in front of her).

both scenarios are awww for me. the girl whose feelings he used to give a damn about. now she matters to him. instead of telling her to shut up like old Suraj would have done.. he fears her lectures.
or values her sentiments.

either ways... awww by me.

then imli discussion. i am zoning out whenever this lady gets a mention. pardon me.

and then Chakor walks away from him.
but ends up fainting due to unintentional fasting. and he holds her before she could topple down. the sheer concern on his face.
then she asks for water and he makes her drink water from a bottle. filmy karvachaut moment there. but very beautiful.
and that moment was the defining ones in this magical journey of Sukor. and he himself later admitted.
i never saw her like that before. or never will again. she looked like a little sparrow who has been caged. and i made pact she will never be hurt again. she shall remain free forever.
THAT was the moment he really SAW her.

not as a super girl.
messiah.
his unbreakable strong foe.
or that inflated play toy of his. the toy which kids knocks down and it pops upright immediately and they find fun in knocking it down again. but it just won't go down.
Chakor is not any of those at that moment for him.
she is just an innocent girl who could look so vulnerable. so frail. so fragile. someone who could go down. and someone who needs help in getting up again.
his help.

and he steps in too help her.
he takes her to dhaba and there is that adorable easy bantering between them. the way he gives her amused smile seeing her demolishing food. and orders more food for her.
teases her for keeping karvachaut for him. and she teases him right back that since she kept it for two days effects will be reverse and he will be losing his eyes due to that bad effect.
his dialogue: jo tumhe khaana kilaye unke saath aisa mazaq karo toh pet karaab hojata hai.

him trying to spike her drink and she turning the tables on him.
kaha hum ise swarg ka aanand dikhana chahate the aur yeh humhe narak dikha rahi hai.

and then KN walks on them.
Suraj panics. what we gonna do! he is looking around in panic and sees that chakor has vanished.
well chakor hides under the table right near his legs. his expressions.
that cuteness and fun factor of the scene.

it is almost subtle... and a very beautiful shift from being partners... to being ... friends.

that karvachaut scene where he finally takes her under his wings.
make her a part of his family. his life.
be her friend.
or may be a beginning of beautiful bond.. yet unnamed.

a special shout out to this scene in that 'khoobsurat' sequence:

while he was driving her to Ragini's den he tells chakor.
'you take care of yourself'.

and she gives him a surprised.. say what? kind of look. him telling her to be careful. sounded probably alien to her.

he immediately looks flustered and tries to cover up his slip.
'i mean Ragini's men will be around. so. hey i could come with you if you want. for protection.'

and chakor says.. she is super girl. she can handle anything, and anyone.

but the fact that HE actually cares for her safety.. but doesn't exactly want to show it.

well that hmmm for me there.

and then she saves his life in the party and comes back to his life... as his wife.

he is sleeping a fitful sleep and the first thing he sees when he wakes up is her putting on the sindhoor.
he goes and stands behind her and asks some pointed pertinent questions.
why is she back when he has set her free?
why is she doing this for him?

and so on.
all the while giving her contemplative looks. as is trying to really 'see' her.
and then he helps her with her mangalsutra with almost casual grace. still pondering over the puzzle that is ..HER.

that was probably the very first moment he started wondering...
if she could do so much for a guy she hates... how far will she go for the one she will love?
