Esha, I don't think Suraj will cling to Chakor once he's clear about his own feelings. He may have gone all out in Imli's case because she was very obviously in love with him before and desperate times called for desperate measures...the visions of his kid growing up as a stranger in the same house plagued him.
This guy does not believe he's capable of being loved. His dialogue after their first hug "Tum ro rahi ho...humaare liye?" He was so moved by that. He's not used to people caring about him or even having a good opinion of him. Like the first time Chakor told him she knows he's a good person, like I've mentioned here before. Imli even told him once to spite him that even his parents don't love him and nobody can.
So when he does realise his feelings...since he isn't the best when it comes to gauging anyone else's, LOL and both Chakor and him refuse to discuss their relationship like adults...He'll think it's one sided. "Humein kaun si acchi ladki bardaasht kar payegi?" No way on earth is he even going to think Chakor reciprocates even a fraction of what he feels for her.
He'll think that if he were to confess, she may just stay with him out of pity and her JM complex and he's said (and thought) before he won't want to force her to stay in the marriage. So I feel he'll go the extra mile just to push her away and I'm already dreading watching that.
That being said, once he realises she loves him back...now that'll be a treat to watch.
