Chapter 14

At night Uma was discussing the case with ved. Ved said Uma I think gaurav may be there at the crime I mean if we check the cigarette butts and he has a motive as well. Uma said he doesn't. Well gaurav and Rahul has a problem. And whoever the killer is Rahul welcomed him share a drink gave him money and than the killer killed him and left . how can you say this that they have shared a drink. Uma said according to the servant that night Rahul has a bad temper and that night he smashed a glass just because glass was not cleaned and the servant didn't cleaned the glass. Do you think that Rahul will clean the glass himself and for others. Ved asked others. Uma said yes if you closely look at the crime scene pictures see one glass is clean and other glass is dusty. And on the table we can see that rahul's glass is still on the table. So that means the killer after killing him tampered the crime scene he cleaned all his marks and left. So I am sure that we will not get any fingerprint of killer. And don't forget about the money the money was missing from his house. Ved asked maybe he buy something. Uma said 20 lakhs is not a small amount. He has taken it to give it to someone and that someone has taken it . ved said maybe someone was blackmailing him and the black mailer has killed him. Uma said a black mailer will never kill his victim as it will stop his gain and remember the message it was clear he was waiting for someone and whoever he is he knows Kanak very well. I mean he knows that she was alone and sleeping and will not wake up till morning. Her night suit so he has bought the identical one and moreover her sleep walking habits as no one in hostel knows it but the killer knows it. Ved said you are right. So according to you who is the killer . Uma said I have my own theory but looking for evidence and now it's time to meet yamini. Call her to police station. Ved said yes he asked will you meet Kanak tomorrow I mean you were rude to her and she was concern for you. Uma think for a moment and said I too want to meet her . but I was rude to her I mean I was judgemental without knowing the truth . I think I should say her sorry. Ved said don't worry just meet her and she is not at all angry just worried for you so tomorrow meet her and sort out everything . uma said I will.

Kanak in her room was very tensed. Her uncle knocked the door she asked him to come . Mahesh said last some days were very hard for you but don't worry now everything will be fine. She said yes. Mahesh asked Kanak do you really think you have murdered Rahul because if you blame it on yourself than we can't do anything so please first stop blaming on yourself and maybe you are innocent. Once Uma will file his report I will talk to lawyer and after that everything will be fine but in the meantime I want to concentrate on your studies I know it will be hard for you but it will divert your mind and you have your finals next month so just prepare for it. Kanak said yes uncle you are right I will do it. Mahesh said that I am leaving for Mumbai tomorrow morning so you will be alone better you take care of yourself. Kanak said yes I will. Her uncle left. Kanak was taking out her books. Her eyes caught attention of a large collage which was presented to her by Uma. She remembered the first day of his chance.

At panchgani next morning Uma presented her. She asked what is this I strictly told you that presents are not allowed so what is this. Uma said you told me that expensive gifts are not allowed and believe me it's not expensive. She uncover it and it was her photo infact collage of her photo that he has taken all her close up photos all her expression are closely captured. She smiled at it and said am I really so pretty. He said more than this infact no one can captured it fully I have tried but was not successful. She asked may I keep it. Uma said yes you can it's for you. She happily took it. He said okay so we can go for a walk this evening. Kanak said why. Uma said you have a class now and after that you will take rest so you will be free by evening so we can take a walk than. Look I have only 3 days and I want to make it most. Kanak said okay but remember my condition. He said yes I will not. Kanak said by the way what is your name . He said it's Umashankar Toshiwal.

She smiled and left for her class.

Chapter 15

Kanak just remember that evening when she agreed to talk a walk with him. He has bought a bike and told her to sit. She was surprised and asked him that we are supposed to take a walk not a bike ride so what is this. He answered yes we are talking a walk but in some other place so to get there this is a medium. She smiled and sit on the bike but was hesitate to hold him. He said you have conditions I don't you can touch me and don't worry I will not take any benefit of you. She said don't know if I am doing right I mean I don't know you and still ready to go with you to the unknown destination. He said you may not know me properly but you do trust me and to know each other we have this time so why don't we use it. She holded him and he drive the bike.

After some time they reached at strawberry gardens and he said this is our destination. She said here. He said yes I mean here we can have a walk if you feel thirsty you can have a fresh juice and we can have a ice cream over here. She smiled and said so should we take a walk. He said let's start. They started she was humming a song. He said if you want you can sing. She said no. He said look I know that you are a fabulous singer infact you won a inter college competition as well or else you will sing just in front of audience. She said it's not like that but I am not in mood today . He said okay I will not force you. She said may I ask you a question. He said please go ahead. She said what's my number. He was surprised and said sorry I didn't get you. She said I mean you are good looking tall and handsome it's not possible that you don't have any girlfriend so what's my number I mean how many girls you dated before me. You can tell me as after 2 days it will be over. He started counting fingers and after sometime replied one. She said really. He said yes. She asked why so. He said before today apart from cases nothing excited me it's only you and yes many girls tried on me but I don't take them seriously as many of them are after my status and money and some of them are just attracted but it was one sided I was never attracted to anyone before you and now the attraction has changed into liking. She asked okay tell me what you like in me. He said now you want me to appreciate you. She said yes why not I want to know how good you are in appreciation. He said okay I was attracted to your beauty as it is pure and you are a girl of character as many girls I met they always want a chance to meet again to have a date and some of them ask just for casual dating nothing serious but you are not like them you have your own charm. I mean any girl would have asked for expensive gifts shopping and many things. But you didn't that means you are not greedy. He said still till next 2 days I will try my best and still if you reject me than its your right. But I will never forget I may move on but you will be there in my heart like a part of it. He asked okay now tell me something about yourself. She said there is nothing much about me. My parents died when I was very young I live with my uncle and once I am 21 years old I will inherit my parents property so my uncle wants me to complete my education so that I can take care of it. And he says to be away from boys specially tourist . He asked why. She said uncle says that first they will charm you from their sweet talks they will appreciate you and tell you how important you are for them and than will take your benefit and leave you forever. Uma's face just fall and she was laughing. He said if it's true than what are you doing with me. She said nothing just talking a walk now let's go it's about to sunset . He said you should be prized in how to turn off the date. She said it's a date for you not for me remember after 2 days you have to leave . so it would be better if you remember this. They went from there.

Kanak still seeing at the collage thinking sometime what we say come true Uma we parted our ways but now you are a part of my heart. I still love you but know that I can't be with you I am sorry .

Chapter 16

Kanak kept the collage back in cupboard and started reading her books suddenly her phone ranged and it was Uma. She picked it up . He said I want to meet you. She asked any new developments in case. He said no it's not about the case but about us. Kanak we met almost a year and there are lot of things that I want to discuss with you and I want to meet you will you not give me a chance again. She said it's not about a chance Uma we both know the truth that why we broke up and again to start everything is not easy. I mean goodbye is always painful in our relationship. He said you are right that's why we always told each other to come back soon as we always wanted to meet each other and today also I want to meet you Kanak not as an officer but as myself. She said okay I will come just tell me where to come. He said okay I will SMS you address so it's confirm tomorrow evening . she said okay. Uma hung up the call. Ved asked what happened. Uma said she is ready to meet me. Ved said your love story always confuse me when I think everything will be fine to my shock you both part away and when I think that now you can't come back together you both always do. So right now I don't know what to expect. He said don't expect just pray for me. Ved said my well wishes are always with you. Uma thanked him.

Next day in the police station yamini was called. She was a high profile socialite who's photo is always in page 3 but everyone know she is a gold digger as she has married to a man who is 15 years younger and now has multiple affairs. She was sitting on a chair and smoking a cigarette. Uma said not to smoke in police station. She oblige and put the cigarette down. Yamini said I hope you will not revenge that I tried to break your engagement with her. Uma said don't worry I don't mix my professional and personal relationship. Yamini said than ask what you want. Uma said why you married to Mahesh. Yamini said of course for money. I was a model and he had a ad agency I thought that he must be rich as he lives in a big bungalow and has some very expensive cars I trapped him to marry me but how unfortunate I was everything belongs to his brother and he was just a caretaker and now everything belongs to that orphan Kanak. I just hate her. Uma asked so why you are planning her alliance with your brother gaurav. She said again for money if she gets married to my brother so legally everything will belong to him and my rest of life will be good. Uma said and if she dies after marriage it will be better right. Yamini said yes but I don't understand what you want to say. Uma said maybe you have planned this murder I mean to trap Kanak for her property. Yamini said I would have done it if she had married to my brother but to be very honest I never thought of so because I just want her to be puppet of my hands and you know how naive she is it was very easy for me but I think she is still not over you that's why she rejected my brother. Uma asked where were you at the night of murder. She replied I was in Ooty look I know Mahesh is cheating on me but I am least bothered about it I just don't care still I was here just to get some evidence so it will make my divorce stronger and I can have a fat alimony. I tried to follow him but that old fellow just tricked me and vanished. Uma said your brother was also in Ooty. She said yes he always accompany me. Uma said okay if it there something else I will call you. She was about to leave Uma asked one more thing does everyone in your family smoke the same brand. She said yes except Mahesh I mean he left smoking almost 6 months back. Uma said thanks.

Ved said Uma I think this brother sister both are involved in murder I mean this yamini has murdered Rahul and swap the clothes and maybe gaurav is also involved as Kanak rejected him so it's a perfect revenge. Anyways she is planning to divorce Mahesh so she will get alimony the motive of this murder is revenge. Uma said good theory but how will you prove it. Ved said you think about it. He smiled and said first go and check everything about what I said and just call to the doctor who had treated Kanak I want to meet him as well. Ved said okay. Uma meet doctor who was treating Kanak doctor said she was poisoned but very little but now she is perfectly fine so we discharged her yesterday. Uma said apart from sleeping pills was anything else was given to her. Doctor said no and these are her blood reports sleeping pill may be given her very low dose so she will be awake by morning. Uma thank the doctor. Doctor said please tell her relatives to take better care of her right now she is very disturbed. Uma said doctor may I check the CCTV footage of her room. Doctor said yes I will send it to you. Uma thanked once again and left.

In the office Uma was observing the footage of both jail as well as hospital. Ved asked what are you checking there is nothing new it's only Kanak no one came to meet her. She is just sleeping . He said nothing. Ved said right now we don't have anything concrete no base theory no evidence so what should we do. Uma said what about the information ved said yamini was right Mahesh was there in Ooty in the middle of the road he changed the car gave a slip to yamini. Yamini had given me car number as well. Uma said just check with the car. Ved said I checked it's a rented car and now with its owner.

Uma said I want to check it. They both went to car center. Uma checked the car thoroughly. Ved said I checked it there are nothing here. On the back seat he found a hair. He collected it and said I need a DNA of this. Ved said okay it will be. And asked the owner do you rent the car according to the km or a day. The owner said according to the km. Uma said okay I want to know how much this car had its run on last Saturday. Owner said I will provide the details by evening.

Ved said don't know how can someone is comfortable in car I mean uncle did that thing here it's weird. Uma said we are not here to discuss that thing. Let's go . ved said okay even I am not interested. Ved asked Uma will you tell about Mahesh to Kanak I mean she thinks he is a nice person and I also think he is. Look yamini cannot be a wife or a mother and if such person find happiness outside his house is it wrong I don't support adultery but I can't blame to Mahesh completely. Yamini is also responsible she is not clean. Uma said who am I to say what's right or wrong I am finding my own answers. Ved said I am sorry . uma said let's go and they both left.

Chapter 17

Uma and ved were sitting in the car and Uma asked how much time it will take for all the reports. Ved replied that it will take 2 days. Ved asked Uma what's your theory you have not shared it according to me it's gaurav and yamini. Uma said I want to check all the evidence once again so just put everything back on my table. They were passing through a funfair Uma remember their second day of the chance.

Uma dropped her back to the hostel she thanked him and said I enjoyed your company really it was a good change. He said okay that's a good start and be ready for tomorrow. She asked what for tomorrow he said it's a surprise. Next morning she was ready Kanak was a girl who always been alone in her life she has very few friends but she likes Uma's company and she was thinking he is a gentleman he behaves decently and more above has a good character. But she was not ready for any relationship as she doesn't want her mind to be diverted. But maybe she was ready for it as well but again she thought it's so soon she has met him only few days back so to think all this may be not correct she put off the lights and gone to sleep.

Next morning she was ready and he came to pick her up and they both gone to a funfair. She smiled at the entrance and said that since childhood I have never been to here uncle never had any time for it. Uma said I thought you would not like it. She said I love it lets go. First he take her to gaint wheel and said let's start from here. She said I can't. He said why. She looked at her dress she was wearing a top and mini skirt. He asked do you have a safety pin with you she said yes I do . He said just put a pin on the middle of the skirt she said I can't. He said may I help she hesitate he said okay so let's do shopping first maybe you find something. She said okay. Kanak has been never gone to road side shop it was new experience for her. She had never done any bargain and he was doing it for her. He said okay we bought some pants some tops and belt and accessories and here is your bill which I paid. She was surprised he said your condition was I will not buy anything for you. She said okay I will pay you later as I have a card now. He said maybe be you don't have to pay if you accept me she said she will not accept anyone just for 3500/- RS so leave it. She change her dress and they enjoyed giant wheel she hold him tightly while it was moving she said sorry I was bit scared he said I didn't mind. That day she enjoyed thoroughly having ice cream and various games while passing by they saw a stall where you can win soft toy by hitting balls. She said she want this. Uma said which soft toy she said I want teady Bear he win that for her. She said one more. Almost she had asked for every other cartoon character. He asked you like cartoon. She said I was crazy for them while I was a child my mom has to plead me to have food. He said you miss your parents. She said yes a lot okay let's go now. There were so many bags so they hire a cab and he dropped her back to hostel.

Next day was the last day of his chance so he wanted to do something special he asked her friend sonal about it. Sonal said why don't you take her for a movie he said that will be so normal I want to do something extraordinary. She said before some months it was her birthday she missed it I mean it was our final exams so we couldn't arrange anything for her so if you want you can arrange a belated birthday party for her. She would like it. He thought for a moment and said when was her birthday she said 3 months back. He said it's a nice idea I will arrange it you call everyone. At evening he blindfolded her and take her outside she started trusting him so didn't denied and when he removed her blindfold it was a large cake with balloons and all her college student are there. She was stunned he said I know it's not today but all are here so why not celebrate it now he offered her knife to cut the cake. She took the knife and stabbed the cake atleast 15 times and throw it like she was in psycho she removed all the ribbon and bursted all the balloons sonal tried to stop her but she tried to attack on her as well. Then she came back to senses and said sorry. He asked what happened. She said nothing your 3 days are over you can leave. He asked but why she shouted at him to leave and he left the venue. He couldn't get what happened.

At night she was crying sonal calm down her and said it's not his fault I told him to do so I thought you will be happy. She said sonal how could I will be happy you know everything still you did this I will not blame him but you. Sonal said okay but atleast you can apologize for your behavior call him and say sorry. Kanak replied I don't have his number. Sonal said okay let's go to him and you personally say sorry. She replied I don't know where his address. Sonal said Kanak you dumb person you are with him from last 2 days and you don't know any whereabouts of him this is stupid now what just pray to God that he meet you again. Uma on the other hand said I am going back ved I will not meet her. Ved said what happened. He said nothing just pack bags we are leaving and they left for Mumbai.
