okie!... i posted my review under the wrong thread earlier.. here it is :-

I was so so eager to watch saawariya... I absolutely loved the promos... but the end product fails, and fails miserably...

just because a film is made differently does not mean that it is made well... and by now i'm so tired of all the pseudo intellectual crap that people are saying in support of the film... A good film will work... 'this film is not for the masses' - this argument does not hold in the current scenario.. off beat films have been doing tremendously in india and its actually films from the trusted yash raj banner (jhoom barabar, laaga chunari etc etc) that have been drawing ridicule of both the critics and the aam janta ... so please for the love of god stop saying that the movie is not working because it is not a 'masala' film....

The film is not working because it is cold! ... it just doesn't touch your heart .. its being touted as a simple love story... but there is nothing simple about it ... more inane i think is the appropriate word....

It is so so easy to get completely awed by the sets... because, no two opinions about it - they are just fabulous... but if all you can praise are the sets of the film then you know that the movie is in big trouble....

I think SLB is going the vidhu vinod chopra way ... chopra's films (the ones he directs and not produces) in recent times have been a lesson in cinematic visual brilliance but they have no substance... and the man arrogantly dismisses all his critics giving the ususal 'in-india-ppl-do-not-appreciate-classic-cinema' argument... the man imagines himself bigger than cinema itself... and SLB is going just the same way....

The characters are horribly contrived, almost caricaturist and pretty much follow all the clichs of indian cinema - the prostitute with a golden heart, the happy go (irritatingly) lucky boy who spreads joy, the coy weepy heroine etc etc..... so much for being different!

for a simple innocent film, the dialogues are too heavy and melodramatic... movies about the innocence of first love always put a smile on my face... bec there is a naivety to them that is like a breath of fresh air... but here, the film is a complete exercise in self-indulgence... SLB seems to be saying 'look, no one can make visuals like me, hence i'm greatest of them all' .... and the excess of references to the kapoor khandaan must surely have raj kapoor turning in his grave....

I don't say, that everyone should hate the film because i did not like it ... i have liked flop films... i have hated superhit films (eg: heyy baby!) .... but please don't insult the intelligence of other people by saying 'this movie is not for everyone'/'only people who appreciate true art will love it' etc etc....

Just because a film is pretentious doesn't mean its a classic....


P.S : the two debutants were good!… wish they were launched in an actual simple story that would truly showcase their potential and their chemistry… They have more spark in their interviews than in the actual movie…

I loved this movie... this movie won't probably appeals to men.. coz they lyke to watch masala movies.. but as a women i loved everything about the movie... ranbir is the next superstar of bollywood ..there is no doubt about that... salman khan was brilliant in this movie even though he didn't had a lengthy scene.. rani has once again proved tht she is the most versatile actress of bollywood ... sonam and ranbir luked so beautiful and simple in this movie that u wud fall in love with them straightaway.. i had a smile on my face throught the movie.. it was lyke ur dreaming and when it finishes u wud feel that somebody woke you up... i wud be really sad if this movie will not work.. coz it deserves to be nominated in oscar.. this movie is a typical hollywood style movie but directed in a hindi version.. hats off to all the cast and crew who are assiociated with this movie.. they have done a brilliant job.. 😳

i went to c this movie and wished i hadnt it was so slowww that i think i did drift off at one point. 😕 quite honestly,other than the lavish sets, i dont have any positive things to say. this is probably a movie best watched when you dont have anything better to do.

I went to watch this film after OSO as I was excited about both films. I've gotta say I was disappointed, the film was not boring but it did drag and the last half hour of the film was the letdown, definately not what I had in mind.

I liked Ranbir, he's a really good actor. Sonam was good too but her role doesn't demand much. Rani rocked! Salman, he didn't have much to do and his role was very short.

This film was good for three reasons only - Ranbir, Rani and the music

Plain N simple: WAIST OF TIME AND MONEY!! i was soooo dissapointed the movie was like torture...the 2 saviors were zohra sehgal n rani mukherjee...i lub ranbir but i think its slbz fault that he looked demented throughout the film...i found sonam waaaay better then him but then again i HATED her character.i cant believe this is an slb film itz sooo shocking... 😡 😡 my verdict HORRIBLE!!!plzzzz dont waist ur time!!No story no direction! im ssoo happy im going 2 c om shanti om hopefully itll b a sigh of relief!! 😛 😃

i saw the movie today and absolutely loved it....it is undoubtedly one of this year's best movies.

the scenery, music and all were extremely aesthetically pleasing...loooved it...esp. the enchanted fairy tale feel of the setting.

the story was slow...but its about 4 nights so what do u expect.

i havnt read the short story from which this was adapted so i cant compare it to that.

maybe not as moving as black, but this was definately a well directed film....we can always count on SLB to live up to our expectations.

the only complaint i have is with the ending. i dont know if it was done to go along with the original story but i felt bad for ranbir's character...the last scene is so sad where sonam runs to salman happily and poor ranbir is left all alone...or maybe im just too used to having the main lead end up together in hindi movies despite all possible obstacles😆

anyways, im glad i chose to see saawariya over OSO

SAAWARIYA: ITS NICE..
Hey. I watched Saawariya yesterday at PVR Rivoli....
It works mainly bcooz of all nice songs, excellent ranbir and very good rani mukherjee..A handful of scenes are also brilliantly executed..
And i would like all of u know that the film is not as bad as what Taran adarsh of indiafm and raja sen of rediff have written.......Its a nice entertaining movie and i dont know why it is fetching all bad reviews....
It statrs off briliantly with ranbir's introduction...
Then the pari song is also nice filmed on prositutes....
However the song is so beautiful...The picturisation can be better....Then the whole first interaction of ranbir sonam , ranbir singing masha allah are all spectacularly soothing.Then ranbir going to zohra sehgal for room and making her cry will surely cater to the emotional people...and all the other things are so fntastic oone cannot stop praising them..However the scene which ranbir shows to sonam from the clock tower looks a little fake but thats fine.

Ranbir is excelllent,exceptional and has a good phhysique two...His scenes with zohra sehgal, rani mukherjee, feeling excited and dancing are alll very entertaining...Sonam is also fine but cannot match ranbir...She has a few diologues otherwise she keeps on breaking into laughter and then cries..She looks like anil kapoor in some of the scenes...Otherwise she is beauty personified..Looking fabolous in masha allah song...Rani yet proves she is most tallented actress of today...Even a 50 minute role is carried by her in such a beautiful manner that she will develop a strong impression even in a supporting role..Salman khan is adequate..The actress(Begum para, I think) playing jhoomri chachi(Sonam's caretaker) is fine and natural..

Now the music...No body can do such wonders what monty sharma has done in his debut film..It is so soothing and a listener's delight...Cherography pf eachand every song is exceptional....Pari is fine...Then masha alllah is very nice..Title track both original amnd reprised are excellent..Jab se tere naina is excellent..Ranbir's so cute when he dances in that song.....
Yoon shabnami.( i think this is one of the most beautiful tracks but not promoted adequately)shone above the others..Even the lesser heard..Jaan -e-Jaan song where they enacts the RK Logo is excellent..
and special mention should me made of chabeela song(sung brilliantly by alka yagnik..)perrformed exceptionally by rani with all expressions and the cheoreography and dance is topnotch...

Few sequences worth mentioning are:
-Ranbir interactions with zohra..
-Jab se tere naina song with ranbir dancing
-Sonam's reavealing abt Imaan(salman khan) to ranbir raj......
-Ranbir burning sakina's letter and rani mukherjee obnserving all this..
-TheUmbrella scene where sonam remembers the same thing she had done with imaan a year ago.The song Jaanejaan that follows...
-Ranbir being insulted by rani and the true reason behind this which rani speaksto her fellow prositute..
She has enacted that scene very very beautifully.
-The scene where ranbir runs along with sonam in the road where lili flowers are all floating on the pool of water decorated with lights and the background score that follows..
-Sonam hitting carpets in joy and all..
-Also i feel bad for ranbir...the climax is not in his favour..but the cilmax is real and good...

Special mention should me made of background score..ITs no nice soothing and exceptional at some places..The background score at jaane jaan song..at the end(sonam running for the bridge..and all it is excellent..
The sets are beautiful and it is very wrongly written that the sets are so that u cannot concentrate on the on goings..It does not look like that fake except a couple of scenes..I think its Omung kumar who has done all this and surely deserve a standing ovation........

Guys..If u want a movie with very melodius songs and their excellent visually delightful picturisation..the exceptional ranbir whos excellent equally in happy and emotional scenes..A nice Sonam kapoor..The teriffic rani and salman in small but powerful roles..A dream like world...Excellent background score and all...
Go watch this...

You will not believe that i had read 15 -16 bad reviews of Saawariya..still i did go and watched this film and i do not come out with the feeling its bad ..Hmm Its not exceptionally brilliant of what we had expected from sanjay leela bhansali but its not bad that it can get such bad stupid reviews..
SOngs and all are so wonderful one can hardly ignore...

GO watch it..Its slow paced but nice and can be termed as a beautiful musical also...
(ANd please believe me this review is not hypocrisy..srk is my favourite superstar from a half a decade but i simply can't stand such bad reviews a nice film is getting...)
