I watched both and I think OSO was better , because Saawariya was kinda the same type of movei concept
( boy or girl falls in love , problems occer , etc. ) At the end she just goes with Salman , and I think that was really bad ending .. It kinda had many of the same parts , and the song yon shabnami , was not right , muslims do not dance in the masjid , and it showed men danceing , the was the song went from yon shabnami to chand nikala aya was weird , it really wasn't that good . I'll rate Saawariya 4/10 .

Excellent reviews,Mayaji and Jayaji.I would agree it is sheer poetry in motion. You cannot compare this with another fun masala movie. Two different genres.Unfortunately,it was pitted agaist a surefire blockbuster like OSO.

I loved Ranbir was excellent and i can see him sweeping all the awards for best debut cause he made me laugh and cry with his expressions which were belivable on screen that made you relate to what he was going through

Sonam was ok but i wish she got more lines and do more with her expression cause she was crying the whole time and that laugh was annoyingbut nevertheless shares good chemistry with Ranbir and looks stunning ecspecially in the Mashallah song which captured her beaty in evrey form

Rani was funny and that line when she goes me likes makes me laugh evreytime but the amke up department deserves thumbs up cause she looked amazing and her dance in chabeela was also done very well

Salman didnt do much for me and his role was short so i payed no importance to him at all but it wouldve been interesting if he had more screen time to know more about the charecter but he dud ok in the scenes he had

Zohra Segal was so cute i felt like hugging her as well when she said she missed her son for 37 years but the b**** line was just hilarious and she pulled it off perfecty now flaws from her side at all

Overall it was ok it couldve been better without all the songs coming evrey 15 minuites but the music was excellent specail mention to the set designer for creatin a dreamlike town that evreyone would wish to live in , music fitted each situation perfectly but they shouldve minimised to 4 0r 5 cause they did drag a bit but i loved the picturisations and the film was shot beatifully but SLB should concentrate mon the script more then making the look appealing but it wasn't bad i quite liked it just the flaws need brushing up thats all

A very subtle and sensitive take on a story alien to B'wood...

I liked the movie..

Its not SLB's best and not the best movie ever But t definitely is very much underrated...a very good movie misunderstood so badly by ppl...

why I said it is not SLB's best-Coz overall I felt Something Missing..a "something" I cannot find words to express..But I know why i felt that "something" missing...read on...😳

I have to say its better if one reads White Nights and sees the movie..If u do so, u will understand better...
why I say this is coz I am quite disgusted at Critics saying "where is this dreamland?", "why does Sakina still love Imaan, what sustais her love for him?", "why does akina laugh and cry so uncertainly?", "why does Gulabji kick Raj out inspite of loving her so much?" n all that ado! 😡 😡 😡 Read the original, u will never ask such idiot queions..Though in the movie I found that SLB had given the answers to this quite well...But who wants quality these days? 😆 😕 😡

On the downside, once u have read the book and then if u see the movie I assure u u wont get even 10% of the feeling u do when u read the book...coz The original story is too good and silly to be made into a movie and if u follow it to the T , No wonder SLB has been Panned! 😆 😉

all in all..a very good movie not one for all...Those who wish to see some quality simplistic beautiful and soulful movie, give it a try...But those who dont believe in their own judjgement, dont waste ur money and time..U wont get it anyway! 😆 😉

PD: Ranbir-He is a born superstar! 👏

My review of Saawariya:

White Nights is NOT one of Fyodor Doestoevsky's best work. The entire short story is an excruciatingly LONG narrative by an extremely annoying protagonist, who has idealistic fantasies of true love.

The movie itself was weird and eclectic, but that did not put me off as much as being UNABLE to CONNECT with anything in it.

Performances
Zohra Sehgal - Top class!
Ranbir Kapoor - As annoyed as I was with Doestoevsky's protagonist, Ranbir Kapoor was still tolerable.
Rani Mukherjee - Both terrible and excellent depending on the scene.
Sonam Kapoor - Strictly average.
Salman Khan - Looked like Al-Qaeda's latest recruit on crack.

Setting
It reeks of artificiality. I do not care that it is a mix of Moulin Rouge, St. Petersburg, Venice and an India with a booming textile industry (for blue and black clothing); SLB failed to transport me into the world he created.

Even in fiction, you need to make a world real enough to the viewer or reader.

Overall rating: 2/5
