Saawariya was an awesome movie because of everything that was incorporated in it! The lavish sets and scenery and how it was played into 4 nights! The story-line was very, very beautiful. I saw it yesterday and I feel like watching it over and over again! I totally loved Ranbir's acting; there was no need of improvement. It didn't look he was debuting! Same goes for Sonam, she did wonderfully! I loved her innocence and her first line when she tells Ranbir to stop following her; I thought that was so innocent and sweet! I personally didn't enjoy watching Devdas and HDDCS... because I thought they were too boring and slow. But after I saw Saawariya, SLB is my favourite director. Furthermore, Gulab was played beautifully by rani, a fun loving carefree women, who loved her "Saawariya" I thought taht was very sweet how she called Ranbir Raj... Saawariya! Also, Salman did a great job he was playing Sonam's lover Imaan! Loved how he came back at last to meet his love! Only one thing I would change about Saawariya is the ending because I thought it was too sad! How Sikina(Sonam) hugs Raj(Ranbir) and goes to Imaan (Salman) was very sad indeed! But I think SLB has a trade mark to do sad endings like in Devdas, and HDDCS!
Overall I'm going treasure Sikina, Raj, Gulab, Imaan and not to forget Lillipop in my heart! When I was watching this movie, it felt as if I was watching a true story and Sikina and Raj were real characters!

Yesterday I watched both Sawariya and Om Shanti Om, I really enjoyed both tme movies , I am really upset at the bad reviews Sawariya is getting, It is a must watch, movies like OSO though entertaining are made often, but it takes a genius like SLB to make a movie it would be a big shame if this movie flops as it would dicourage people to make this kind of cinema which has taken me to a different height and appreciation for the maker, I enjoyed OSO but have already forgotten about the movie but Sawariya , I can still feel it's magic, it's once in a lifetime magic. I would urge everybody go and see this movie , it needs to be watched in the screen and not in DVD format.

I really shouldtn be talking since I only watch half the movie, but from what I saw, I liked Ranbirs comic timing-ish and the movie was okay. I really thought both characters were a bit mental because of the way they were acting. The sets were soo fake, it got me upset lol. and Ranbirs butt scene has scarred me for life. Honestly, the only thing that kept me in the movies was Salman, and that whole thing with Imaan. I wont say much cuz dont wanna give way to much but ppl hu saw the movie know what Im talkin about. In my opinion the story doesnt the the X factor to wanna keep sum1 glued to the screen, like I said for me Salman's character was the driving force

PS- I really shoudnt be talkin. See, my cousins and I bought tickets to see OSO (another so so movie) and we saw it. Then being the way we are, we sneaked into the other theater and sat down to watch Saawariya, we saw like half of it, up to wen Ranbir goes to Rani after he got rejected by Sakina lol then we had to rush out cuz we were late for a party (in our house! 😆 )

I just saw the movie with my daughter and my parents and came out with the worst headache of my life.

SLB has lost his touch in my opinion.

There was no soul in this love story in my opinion.

The story (spoiler)- HDDCS except that sallu miya finally gets the girl in the end

The actors/characters: I felt like Ranbir had a serious case of epileptic seizures as he would break out into a fit at the drop of his hat!

Sonam was slightly better but i think had bipolar disoreder as she would cry and laugh in the same scene.

I seriously suffered from major claustrophobia from the dark and dingy sets from which i could not escape as kept hoping for some major revelation in the story.

The positives: Rajbir's dance in Jab se tere naina and his butt show b-(

Rani Mukherjee as the golden hearted prostitute and of course the music which sounds 100 times better on my CD player than the movie.

I feel really sorry for: Monty, the music director who apparently spent the last 2.5 years composing one of the best music soundtracks of the year, the debutant kids as they should have gotten a better launch pad than this and the audience who has to endure 2.5 hours of torture :hair :hair :hair

When I decide to watch a movie, I just go watch it, and not make my decisions depending upon other people's reviews...I watched both 'Saawariya' and 'OSO' this weekend and have to say loved both of them...Both belong to 2 different genres and can't be compared with each other at all...

'Saawariya' is one of the best best best visual treats that I have watched in the recent times...Every part of the movie is a class act in terms the visuals, music and even the performances....I went to the movie with no expectations from both the new actors and have to say that I was in for a pleasent surprise...The story was truly heart touching, especially because the director was successful in getting you to connect to the main protagonist right away...You want him to win, no matter what...You laugh when he laughs and you cry when he cries and in the end, you feel the pain for the guy...

This is a must watch, that too on big screen...Don't kill the movie by trying to watch it on your laptop or on some pirated DVD or something...If you love fairytales, just go for it...Its absolutely a tremendous experience, watching this musical on big screen...

Editing to add the following part:

I forgot to mention about Ranbir and Sonam...I went to the movie with no expectations for both of them..In the promos, I liked Sonam better than Ranbir and in fact I thought Ranbir was a bit over the top...But my review of them, after watching the movie is something else..Both of them did a fab job...Ranbir obviously got more footage with the author backed role, and I must commend him for fully making use of it and giving such a bravo performance...👏...He is truly a star in the making and with some smart choices, he has full potential to become the next happening person in the Indian Cinema....

I was so so eager to watch saawariya... I absolutely loved the promos... but the end product fails, and fails miserably...

just because a film is made differently does not mean that it is made well... and by now i'm so tired of all the pseudo intellectual crap that people are saying in support of the film... A good film will work... 'this film is not for the masses' - this argument does not hold in the current scenario.. off beat films have been doing tremendously in india and its actually films from the trusted yash raj banner (jhoom barabar, laaga chunari etc etc) that have been drawing ridicule of both the critics and the aam janta ... so please for the love of god stop saying that the movie is not working because it is not a 'masala' film....

The film is not working because it is cold! ... it just doesn't touch your heart .. its being touted as a simple love story... but there is nothing simple about it ... more inane i think is the appropriate word....

It is so so easy to get completely awed by the sets... because, no two opinions about it - they are just fabulous... but if all you can praise are the sets of the film then you know that the movie is in big trouble....

I think SLB is going the vidhu vinod chopra way ... chopra's films (the ones he directs and not produces) in recent times have been a lesson in cinematic visual brilliance but they have no substance... and the man arrogantly dismisses all his critics giving the ususal 'in-india-ppl-do-not-appreciate-classic-cinema' argument... the man imagines himself bigger than cinema itself... and SLB is going just the same way....

The characters are horribly contrived, almost caricaturist and pretty much follow all the clichs of indian cinema - the prostitute with a golden heart, the happy go (irritatingly) lucky boy who spreads joy, the coy weepy heroine etc etc..... so much for being different!

for a simple innocent film, the dialogues are too heavy and melodramatic... movies about the innocence of first love always put a smile on my face... bec there is a naivety to them that is like a breath of fresh air... but here, the film is a complete exercise in self-indulgence... SLB seems to be saying 'look, no one can make visuals like me, hence i'm greatest of them all' .... and the excess of references to the kapoor khandaan must surely have raj kapoor turning in his grave....

I don't say, that everyone should hate the film because i did not like it ... i have liked flop films... i have hated superhit films (eg: heyy baby!) .... but please don't insult the intelligence of other people by saying 'this movie is not for everyone'/'only people who appreciate true art will love it' etc etc....

Just because a film is pretentious doesn't mean its a classic....

P.S : the two debutants were good!… wish they were launched in an actual simple story that would truly showcase their potential and their chemistry… They have more spark in their interviews than in the actual movie…

Agree 100% with ur review. This movie just did not have a soul which a love story should have. IMO, the sets were too claustrophobic and distracted from the movie itself. The characterization of the main leads was 2 dimensional and did not come out well. The beautiful songs composed by Monty were wasted except for Ranbir's jab se tere naina which stood out from the rest. I wish Ranbir and Sonam get another chance as they do have the potentioan but SLB did not do justice to them
