I just lost an acquaintance to suicide. She had been battling depression for the past few years.

Some common mental health disorders include:

Depression: A mood disorder characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest in activities that were once enjoyable.

Anxiety disorders: These include generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and specific phobias. Anxiety disorders involve excessive and uncontrollable worry and fear.

Bipolar disorder: A mood disorder characterized by cycles of depressive episodes and periods of mania or hypomania, which involves elevated mood and increased energy levels.

Schizophrenia: A chronic and severe mental disorder that affects a person's ability to think clearly, manage emotions, and differentiate between what is real and what is not.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): An anxiety disorder characterized by recurring, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or rituals (compulsions) performed to alleviate the anxiety.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): A condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, leading to flashbacks, nightmares, and hyperarousal.

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): A neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.

Eating disorders: Conditions like anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder, which involve unhealthy relationships with food and body image.

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD): A personality disorder characterized by unstable emotions, self-image, and relationships.

Substance use disorders: Conditions involving the excessive and problematic use of drugs or alcohol, leading to negative consequences in various areas of life.

Have you ever faced any of these? How did you cope?

What is your take on the rising mental health disorders?

Sad you lost someone having decided to end the own life... I wonder if these souls are quickly reborn getting another chance or if they have to wander around in the world in-between...

Different cultures, religions, and belief systems have varying perspectives on the afterlife and what happens to the soul after death, including suicide. Some belief systems suggest that souls may be reborn to have another chance at life, while others propose the idea of an intermediate state where souls may wander or undergo a process of purification before moving on.

I have had entomophobia since I was a child. Not formally diagnosed - but racing heart rate, sweaty palms, ragged breath, and flight make it kind of obvious.

I was diagnosed with a mild general anxiety disorder during the pandemic. Certain triggers make me super anxious - Chicago traffic, winding mountain roads, flaky people who constantly change plans, last-minute projects at work, a perpetual fear of losing job, etc. I have a referral to therapy but like a true South Asian, I am embarrassed to start and have been coping by myself. Fortunately, it is not crippling anxiety and I am able to cope with self-help methods. I also have friends who are watching out and will encourage therapy if my anxiety starts impacting me.

That's true .. music helps.

Sorry about your loss Minty..anyway I think a few people have an IF addiction. Lets beat it together. 😆

anyway I think I have trust issues... it hinders me from forming close connections with anyone, leaving me with many acquaintances but no one I feel close to.

I like dex though, cuz we killed eachother and I know what she can do, same with her. So she is fine. The rest .. I don't trust them half as much as they think I do.

I can't apply that in real life tho? Kill eachother and then run off in the sunset. In real life I have some other disorder that has no name.. so I'll name it.. "pack up and leave - because you don't make sense disorder"

I grew up in a happy home.. i think ..

Social isolation manifests in youth as depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, and an increased risk of substance abuse

They say the effect of quarantine on kids mental health is gonna be long lasting and distressing

If making Dex cry was on your bucket list, you can cross that off your list today. Who the fcuk is chopping onions here.😭 Lord have mercy. I swear I ain’t PMSing and the fool moon is long gone.

You can apply that in real life. 💯 Because what you see is what you get both ways, lock, stock and barrel.

So sorry to hear about your friend, Minty. I hope their loved ones find a way to live with the grief. Unfortunately, rise in mental health issues among young adults post-pandemic is staggering. I work in the field so it’s the same everywhere and only getting worse because resources are few and far between even in “first world” countries. The stigma attached to it in more conservative societies makes it worse. The one thing I do truly appreciate about Deepika Padukone is the way she used her platform to bring awareness to mental health. I don’t know if there’s been studies done yet but I hope her initiative has brought about a positive change at least in the younger demographic.
