Chapter 8 - Haven of Bliss
Life was indeed a bliss for Sanskaar and Swara, mornings would dawn on them with the aura of their tender romance surrounding them and the nights witnessed them sleeping so intertwined and meshed into each other that if one saw them together they could not say where one started and where the other ended. So involved were they into each other and in the world of their own that they rarely took notice of anything else happening around them.
The only time they were separated from each other was when they showered or when Sanskaar was at work. It was a tough time for them, specially Sanskaar. He felt the constant need to hold Swara close to him in the protective embrace of his arms, touching her, kissing her to make sure she was there and she was his and his only but they would kill away those hours by staying constantly connected through text messages or phone calls, which though both would promise to not allow to last for long but would end up talking for hours. They would talk about any mundane thing happening around them be it Swara's afternoon lunch preparation or Sanskaar's mergers and amalgamations.
They would wait for these hours to pass as quickly as possible so that evening would fall and they could be together again, spending their time by having conversations accompanied with the adrak masale waali chai which Swara prepared so skilfully or just sit in the balcony saying nothing with Swara sitting in Sanskaar's embrace, her back pressed against his chest, his chin on top of her head basking in the happiness and peace which these moments of silence bestowed on them.
It was the season between late winters and approaching Autumn, the garden overlooking the balcony of the room they now resided in was covered with dry red wilted gulmohar leaves which were shrugged off the branches of the tree making way for new leaves and flowers to grow just like their lives, they were now in the Autumny phase of their life, shrugging away the memories of their dark past to make way for the season of spring, for new beginnings.
It was one of those evenings when Swara was making way to their room after wrapping up her work in the kitchen. Sanskaar was to come home late today as he had some unfinished business to attend to in office. That is when she happened to notice the closed doors of their previous room. Something inside of her prodded her to open the doors and go inside.
Unable to stop herself Swara walked up till the gates and gently ran a hand over the quaint gold handle on the door. Pushing it open she walked inside to see that not a thing had moved from it's original place. The room looked empty, unoccupied and was covered with debris and shards of broken articles.
She turned to look at the bed and found the bedcovers stripped off the mattress, the blanket lying cold on the floor. She found herself thrown into a whirlpool of painful memories and emotions of fear, helplessness and despair, as the scene of her assault playing in her mind.
Swara held the bedpost for support and her eyes closed of their own accord not being able to take in the surrounding of the room anymore and then suddenly there was a moment of breakthrough in the pain and despair. She was reminiscing her happy moments with Sanskaar in this very room; celebrating their victory over Ragini as partners, his blatant love declaration to her, her gradual realization of love for him, her declaration of love for him, their voices of laughter replaced the echoes of her scream.
As Swara opened her eyes she remembered Sanskaar's tender love and care which he showered so unconditionally on her day by day and suddenly the magnitude of fear and despair she earlier felt vanished and she smiled, Swara smiled through a sheen of tears in her eyes.
Love does actually give you the strength to smile and hold your chin up during trying times if not protect you from pain Swara thought and Sanskaar's love for her did exactly the same to her, it gave her the strength to move on from the memories of that night's assault and forget it, it taught her to smile and be happy again, it completed her. Tucking in the pallu at her waist she summoned Shambhu to come help her clean the room, together the cleaned the room and changed the face of it.
Wanting to surprise Sanskaar Swara decorated the room a little more by lighting a few scented candles and putting up fairylights in the balcony of their room and above the giant windows. Glancing up at the clock she saw that she had some more time in hand, after giving final touch up's to the decoration in the room she went down to the kitchen and started preparing kheer for Sanskaar, she knew that he loved the kheer from her kitchen so she wanted to prepare it for him to make her surprise a little more special.
She quickly prepared it and was giving it the final touches by putting a silver coating on it when Ragini and Parineeta Bhabhi walked in the kitchen smelling appreciatively at the aroma, "Ooohhh la la, what's cooking Swara?" Ragini asked yet mesmerized by the aroma of the kheer "She is cooking kheer for Sanskaar bhaiya to win him over Ragini. Am I right or am I right Swara? " Parineeta Bhabhi asked in a teasing tone as Ragini gave knowing looks.
Swara's cheeks colored up at their teasing; laughing at her innocence Ragini mussed her hair affectionately, "I'm really very happy for you Swara just wish you stay as happy as you are now for all your life." Parineeta Bhabhi nodded her head acknowledging Ragini's words agreeing with her as Swara's smile widened at their affection for her, "But we would be happier if you'd save some for us too." they both exclaimed at the same time and laughed at their timing. Laughing at their antics Swara nodded her head and said, "I've prepared enough kheer I'll save it for you both." smiling at her Ragini and bhabhi headed out to the kitchen chatting with each other.
Sighing contentedly Swara put the kheer in the fridge to refrigerate and headed up to the room. Glancing up at the clock she saw the time, it was nearing 10 p.m. and Sanskaar wasn't home yet? Swara thought a bit worried. Reaching for her phone she called him but his number wasn't reachable, she tried again, again and again and got the same response all the time. Slightly alarmed now she called up on his office landline and got no response yet again.
Her apprehension and tension skyrocketed as she called Sanskaar again and again. She was alarmed at the situation she was facing, fear gripped her heart, fear of loosing Sanskaar, fear of something happening to him, the fear of not being able to see him smile at her again but most of all she feared of existing without him, she couldn't imagine her life if he was not with her.
Tears formed in her eyes as she called again but it went unanswered, tears freely fell down her face unrestricted at the thoughts now occupying her mind. She was to exit the room to go out and find him when her breath and life were restored to her in the form of Sanskaar standing in front of her unharmed.
He entered the room and closed the door behind him and looked at Swara who stood still like a statue unmoving. One minute she was standing near the dressing table and the next minute Sanskaar felt her soft form colliding against his chest. Her arms wrapping themselves around his torso very tightly, she rested her head on his chest and broke down crying.
That's when Sanskaar felt fear and worry grip him and he looked down at her feeling alarmed at her disheveled state. Pulling back a little he held her in his arms and tried talking to her, "Shona, what happened? Why are you" and he couldn't complete his sentence as he felt her tiny fist hitting against his chest and arms, "Ow Ow Swara, wait you'll hurt yourself Shona."
Pushing her hands behind her he enclosed her in his arms and pulled her close to him, "Swara, what's the matter tell me please you're scaring me like nothing." Struggling out of his grip she again started hitting his chest with her fist crying unstoppably, "Are you crazy Sanskaar? Where the hell where you till now; you told me you would come home by 9 and look at the time now it's close to midnight. Do you know what I went through in these 3 hours. Your number wasn't reachable and I couldn't get through anywhere. I stopped breathing Sanskaar I literally started breathing when I saw you in front of me. You have no idea what I've been through, don't put through this trauma ever again I won't be able to survive through it. Stay as close as you can to me Sanskaar. I need you to exist. I need you more than you know and more than you can ever imagine. Don't ever leave me and go, promise me this." and she hugged him burying her face in his chest; his heartbeats calming her frayed nerves.
Sanskaar stood there shocked at her declaration and revelation. Bringing her closer to him he ran a soothing hand over her hair," Shhh, Swara I'm fine nothing happened to me. The meeting at the office went on for a longer time then planned and the battery of my phone died. I'm sorry Shona I'm really really sorry to get you so worried and putting you through all this, I promise you I'll stay as close as possible. I won't ever leave you to yourself, I promise. I love you Swara I love you very much. "and he tightened his arms around her." I love you too Sanskaar. "Swara said.
Pulling back a little he looked down at Swara, raising his hand he wiped the tears off her face and pushed her lips up for a smile which widened on seeing him smiling down at her," Waise I didn't know you'd get so paranoid and nor did I know that you loved me so much Shona. " he said teasing her a little, smiling at his words Swara spoke, "I need you to breathe and function Sanskaar then turning a little serious she continued "You're the very centre of my existence, I'll cease to exist if anything happened to you. So keep yourself safe and alive for me you get that?"
Kissing her forehead in reverence and love he pulled back a little to see Swara standing with her eyes closed, her face tilted up in his direction. She briefly opened her eyes to see desire and intense passion reflected in Sanskaar's eyes and sanskaar saw the same desire and passion in Swara's eyes for him. His eyes flitted between her eyes and lips to gauge her reaction as he descended painfully slow to connect his lips with her's for what he knew would be their first memorable kiss. His hands tightened around her waist and he descended his lips further down to eliminate the distance between them. An unknown electricity flowed between and around them charging up the atmosphere, heating it up considerably. His lips were touching her's lightly and he was to capture them in a soul searing kiss when the moment was broken due to some noise and Swara's eyes opened.
