Why is everyone so surprised to see the initial pairing in a show break off? Every other serial its always the second entry that ends up being the hero unless the initial pair is shown as married ( in some cases, even then).
First they build up the story and love with a couple then they break them to pair the girl with a more complex character and sometimes the anti-hero. They also end up being more successful somehow, maybe because of the interesting pairing i guess. Whenever you are sure there are two hero's the heroine goes with the more complex character always.
