I think from the flashbacks where Maasi Ma encourges Kunal to study but not Karan! I have a feeling maybe Karan too was good in studies, Maasi Maa knew that but still never let him study .. If only she had enouraged him to study just like for kunal then he would be much more confident.

But what was the point of all that? I mean one can study as well as pursue their carrer in music

Exactly the same I thought while watching the scene. It's not considered as a good way of parenting if you compell your kids to read books or do home work.Instead the encouragement should be always there to follow their passion.
We can't blame Sandhya for doing this.

But the whole point is Karan is passionate about music ,but no one knows him as a musician .He didn't make a carrier out of it and this talent didn't help him in anyway to build his confidence level.Sandy might be having a hand in this as well.

Studies should be a priority. Anjale, I too believe that Karan was good just like Kunal. Sadly Sandhya ruined him. Made him dependent on her, his self confidence is non existent! He is such a good person, what the heck is Sandhya getting out of all this. Why target Karan?!!

I understand being talented and passionate about arts. There are many persons to whom formal education does not work but they shine in other areas like sports, painting, music etc. But Karan has nothing. Going to the slums and teaching the kids is a social cause not a career.
I feel there is a relationship between Kunal and Sandhya that is yet to be revealed. Karan may have been the smarter one and so Sandhya encouraged him to focus on other things rather than his studies.

I feel once he recovers his lost self-esteem(swabhimaaan😆), he too will try to make something out of his music passion. Of course he can't make up for the wasted years doing nothing but if he wants he can surely excel in music.
Now why Sandy deprived Karan from getting education is a big question. Maybe to make him dependent of her, if he started to study then it would have been difficult to make him submissive.

I think Sandy did that to Karan to make him dependent on her which in turn made the whole family dependent on her. The lack of proper education made NK and Nirmala have no self confidence and thus very easy to manipulate by her. She probably realized that and knew she needed someone in the next generation to be dependent on her too.
She probably didn't target Kunal because he was older and probably harder to manipulate than Karan. It would probably be too obvious if both sons weren't studying. Nk would probably accuse her of being useless etc. As long as one is successful, its okay if the other is "nalayak". No one pays too much attention. Plus it creates a divide between the brothers that each one is getting special treatment.
