Mahadev and Sons: Episode Discussion Thread #1

wow, so nice that a local fisherman song was not only picked up by a student and made famous on a college campus but found it's way into movies and recieved so much fame.. it rarely happens :)There are many such songs all across the country that could be taken into movies... but it feels like there's a HUGE disconnect between film music composers/lyricists and the local/folk music/singers...

^ Yeah. It's what I didn't get when many people diss the lyrics of the song, saying it was meaningless. Even before reading article, I was so taken in by the lyrics, it was obvious to me that it was supposed to be like a folk or fisherman song.
And it turns out indeed there is a history behind the song lyrics. I wasn't expecting that, and it just made me love the song even more.Ditto to what you said, about disconnect and how there is a treasure trove of such local songs that can be used in films.

Hmm. You can always catch on. :)) I only know about the famous retelling of Mahabharata by M.T. Vasudevan Nair. It is from Bheem's point of view, I think. If you are interested in literature/poetry, I would suggest checking out Goodreads. They have a good catalogue.Oh, I have listened to a few of those. Man, that Idukki song is not only lovely to hear but damn gorgeous to look at. They really manage to capture the feel/atmosphere of the place. The cinematography has always been top notch in Malayalam movies (at least in the ones I've watched). I wish I could understand the song/lyrics. I am sure it has the same naturalistic feel and elevate the experience. I am going to check out the film. Thanks for the recommendation. :))Because of my work schedule, I will be a bit slow to catch on. I guess I'll draw up a list of my favourites after going through all the suggestions and then bug (more like beg lol) you later for the translations. :PIt seems like there is some rule regarding new members posting links. I've PMed you the link. Thanks for helping out. :))

Neelatharameee...❤️ Shweta, you have made me obsessed with many songs in the past few days 😳 ..such a light hearted romantic feel in the song.. love the music, and ofcourse Karthik 😃
Can you please please give a brief translation? Do so whenever you are free, no hurries at all!! :) hope I am not asking for too much, keep it brief, Shwetaa :)Nilamalare... very melodious.. lyrics also, sweet as usual :-) ..Dunno why, but it is always refreshing to read the lyrical translation of the songs... all those references to nature <3Azhalinte Azhangalil... another melodious song.. love the video. Just looked up the translation, although not a fan of sad songs... the poetical ways in Malayalam songs never cease to wow me..Each video I have watched so far had an interesting story of it's own and nothing is repeated, love how in every song the characters are so natural - acting/dressing/anything - everything is natural... Other film industries should take lessons from Malayalam films 👍🏼 I wonder how good the films must be..Shweta, thankyou once again 😃
