These days very rarely .. true for all languages .. dont watch a lot of movies .. i do follow a couple of English TV series .. that consumes whatever free time i get .. recently i started reading fantasy novels ( other than Harry Potter 😆 ) .. finished 'Uprooted' by Naomi Novik & regretted ever reading it .. 😆

Thinking of starting 'The Malazan book of the fallen' series ..

It is the latter .. i grew up with the locals as a local .. I was impressed by how my parents completely adopted a new culture , especially my mom - she became an expert in everything Marathi - from food to local traditions ... quite an impressive feat IMO ..

Sorry to barge in. I have a few suggestions for fantasy if you are interested.
The Malazan Book of the Fallen is great. Erickson does great world-building but it can be a bit of a heavy load and takes a few reads. I would recommend ASOIAF(GOT source material) except like the rest of us you will be suffering as GRRM is still completing the series(I am 15 years in & still counting). Guy Gavriel Kay, Scott Lynch, Patrick Rothfuss are pretty good. Naomi Novik's older series Temeraire is pretty good.

Also not fantasy but the Ivory Throne is a pretty good read on Travanvore history if you are interested in books with regards to Kerala.

OMG ! .. I Love You , Thank You !

I have been scavenging the internet for good books ( mostly Fantasy , Angel-like-Devil knows me so well 😆 ) but it deceived me with that horrible 'uprooted' ( only few parts were likeable ) ..

Will definitely check it out .. thanks for the suggestions once again .. 😃

You know a lot about Dravidian languages, or linguistics - are you a student or is it acquired knowledge from reading out of interest? :)

Out of interest, mostly. I am planning to major in linguistics. :))

Just listened to Poomaram, and looked up translation.. quite different from what I expected..😃 thought it'd be about college or life or social issues...
Aethu Kari Raavilummm... ❤️ so beautiful - in all ways - music, video, lyrics.. wish I could understand what they're speaking.

Ente Janalarikil... I am in love with this song!!! is nostalgic...gave me late 80s vibe, but is soo soo soo good. Love all the instruments used... such a unique song in today's 'digital' music... Thankyou Shweta! :)

Shweta, when you are free, can you please give a brief meaning of the song 'Ente Janalarikil'?? 😃 thankyou in advance :)

wow, so nice that a local fisherman song was not only picked up by a student and made famous on a college campus but found it's way into movies and recieved so much fame.. it rarely happens :)

There are many such songs all across the country that could be taken into movies... but it feels like there's a HUGE disconnect between film music composers/lyricists and the local/folk music/singers...
