a particular favourite of mine is 'Ab ke baras bhejo bhaiyyan ko babul' from 'Bandini'... Very soulful singing by Asha'ji and equally beautiful picturisation.. Nutan is in jail on the 'chakki' and sings out her pain.. Wow! what expressions... Nutan and Jaya B remain the finest actresses we had who always were a part of the mainstream cinema and through their powerful acting, added classy tocuh to whatever they did..

Actually Nutan did not sing it. A co-prisoner sang it. But yes, it has a lot of pathos.

Meri Duniya is from Mr and Mrs 55. The divorce has happened and Guru Dutt is forlornly strolling about, and he wearily leans against a wall, and suddenly the street qawwals start singing Meri Duniya Lut Rahi Thi Aur Main Khamosh Tha...Guru's expressions are worth watching!

How come I don't remember this though I have seen Mr & Mrs 55? Must see it again.

Loved the picturisation to 'Zindagi kaisi yeh paheli haye' from 'Anand' - Salil Chowdhury and Manna Dey at their best.. and Rajesh Khanna does a brilliant job in carrying the song along the sea-shore and reflecting the true philosophies of the song.. In fact, I think that Anand is the best movie of Rajesh Khanna, and perhaps only he could carry it so well..

Oh yes, whenever I hear this song, I think of the seaside picturization! Great!

Tum rahe na tum, hum rahe na hum...

This song makes me feel as if I am teleported to that era.

I believe a lot of effort went into the picturization of this song. Giant mirrors were used to focus light into one corner of the dark room. That gave a sombre, reflective aura to the song.

Very recently, I also liked the way 'Soona man ka aangan' was filmed for Parineeta.. The song is where Saif remembers the growing up years of Shekhar and Lalita.. and how some dialogs are interleaved between the stanzas..

Punjini....are you a mind reader or what ? I was going to use the EXACT SAME WORDS !! AND was planning to ask you the question about Vijay Anand....yeah yeah...the guy who puts a fist to his mouth trying to stiffle a grin....I recognised him instantly....but what brings goosebumps is the way Nutan says "Khamoshi ki Awaaz....hm hm hm"....AND the masterpiece by Rafi and SD!!!

Oh yes, I was going to put this song now but found your post. Isn't the song shot so brilliantly? Not only is the song so melodious, but the acting of Dev and Nutan is so realistic. I like the thrill on Nutan's face when a cool breeze blows on her face and she holds up her dupatta in joy. Also the way in which the passers by look at the couple indulgently. Did you know that one of the passers by was Vijay Anand, the Director himself?

Hi Punjini...
You have made us go down the memory lane....nostalgia DOES seem to be bliss sometimes.
Here is on of my other favourites...this time..a Kishore ditty...RD's score....
Yahan wahan sarey...jahan mein tera naam hai..
Tere hi to sar pey mohobbat ka taaj hai...

If you visualise the great Rajesh Khanna moving with his trademark mannerisms, his chin going up and down once on his right arm....this gaana is picturised so well..."Peechey hai bachpan diwaanaaa....agey budhapa sayana....." plus thought-provoking..."Aan Milo Sajna"

Here is another of my favourites: "O aaja panchchi akela hai" again a Dev Anand movie. Dev is locked in the bathroom by Kalpana Kartik because she wants the bedroom to herself (they are posing as husband and wife). The poor guy sings this song from the bathroom while she is out in the garden enjoying the moonlight and weather. A situation full of "chhed chhaad"

how can one forget 'ek ladki bheegi bhaagi si' picturised on the gr8 kishorekumar and the beautiful madhubala. I am sure i dont need to describe the situation here..all the music lovers will surely remember this song. KKs and madhubalas expressions were absolutely a treat to watch.
