I agree about the south Indian mockery part..but I don't know why people have reservation about Manna losing to Kishore.. I read in Manna Dey's autobiography recently that he himself was initially aghast about the idea.. he didn't even think Kishoreda could pull off a classical song, but then he says that while recording, he was completely blown by Kishore's rendition.. just recognise the guy's talent, I mean having no classical training, he pulled off ek chatur nar, and that too against Manna Dey, and Manna says that it was only one of the so many times that he was just amazed by KK's natural talent.. he actually mentions Kishore with geat fondness in his autobiography (it was published in 2005 by Ananda Publishers), at one point he says that looking at Lata and Kishore made him realise that no matter how much technical training you have, you cannot become a true singer if you don't have the talent and the art in you..he says he always used to get tensed while recording a song with Kishore..in his words, there he was with all his technical finnesse, and then there was Kishore with his untrained but divinely talented and expressive voice..he mentions one incident when he went to see a movie in which he had a duet with Kishore, and candidly says that while watching the movie in the theatre, he himself liked Kishore' part better as a listener..it takes a great human being like Manna Dey to say things like that..
