One round for both Mentors & their contestants.

1) One new song should be given to the mentors.
2) Let the mentors compose this new song for their
contestants.

I don't think the mentors would agree to this because they compose only for movies in which they are paid big-time money. Secondly, the audiences prefer to see/hear those songs which they are familiar with.

Well said in terms of mentor's money, but when we say original voices then we need this type of round to determine the originality.

Not even public but judges also compare the song sung by participant with the original song.

Well we can introduce this round when we have last 4.

I think the competition is too long, too much stretched.shorter versions will give more chances to more candidates, will be more interesting for us to watch due to variety, will avoid overexposure of candidates like we are witnessing now. I cant wait to watch end of this challenge and see new round of talents.too much of vineet-debu-HR-ID drama left to see still.

Yes, judges always compare a contestant's song with the original song, which is a kind of in-built bias. If the contestants sing original songs, the judges will find it easier to pick out the best. I don't think the mentors would have the time or inclination to compose for the contest, so maybe SRGMP's in-house composer (Anuj Sharma?) can compose for the last 4 contestants.

Indeed it is being stretched to the point that it reminds me of a fruit being squeezed of its last drop of juice. Gajendra Singh and Zee TV are out to prolong the suspense, keep the viewers hooked and advertising money pouring in. Marketing in its extreme form!

No classical or semi-classical rounds were there,it should be included.Even folk round should be there where regional songs should be sung. The folk round here consists of films songs which were not mostly pure folk, pure folk should be given importance.

Again students should be tested for ranges in scales, different types of taals they know & breath control also & voting should be made in first half and last 12 should be judged by panel of experienced persons like Pt.Jasrajji,Ghulam Ali,etc.I think even the panel should consists of all types of singers or musicians like one can be a classical singer, other should be a ghazal singer, another a Qawali singer, one folk, one sufi singer, and one may be a western pop singer. If we calculate the toatl maks given by all of them then we can get the best,'cause INDIA'S VOICE should be a singer who can sing each type of song with utmost perfection.I personally feel that should be no gharanas.Mentors should be invited who should be impartial in their opinion.Studio round should also be there as it was in previous mega-finals.

I totally agree with ur suggestions.👏

Dear All

Saregamapa Challenge 2005 had a completely new format from the earlier years and was watched by far more people than ever before. It was exciting, inspiring, emotional, yet often unjust, irritating and even downright funny.

Now, we should give ideas to the Saregamapa organisers to devise a new format whereby real talent gets rewarded and biases are reduced to a minimum. The winners of the challenge in 2006 should find the going even more tough and exacting. So let's give our ideas.

For starters, I would say:

1)A panel consisting of Shaan, Gajendra Singh and a few others should do the initial screening of candidates based on the cassette recordings sent by candidates. Let's say 50 are selected.

2) 5 gharanas should be set up and 10 candidates put in each gharana. My choices for the mentors would be Jatin-Lalit, Shankar Mahadevan, A.R. Rahman, Ismail Darbar and Shiv-Hari. Of course, it would be too much to expect all these people to agree to give their dates!

3) Out of the 50, we can filter the contestants based on public voting and bring down the number to 10.

4) Now a panel of distinguished judges from the musical world should come into focus. These judges should be given a good briefing about what judging is all about. A format should be made whereby a weighted ranking is given to various aspects of singing such as sur, taal, breathing, variation from original song, dance movements etc. The marks given by each judge should be shown on screen. Over several weeks of singing, the candidates can be eliminated until one girl and one boy are left standing. So there should be two 1st prize winners.

Would love to hear more ideas.

ya,me too,Indian people r too partial and the caste, region, community comes in a singing competition too.It is really sad and i pity on all indians, but i'm proud that i've never done it nor i'll do it being an indian.😊

This concept of regional voting really baffles me. When a majority of people from NE vote for Debo, majority of North India votes for Vinit and majority of South India votes for hema, it is very clear that quality of singing is the last thing on the minds of the people. Irrespective of how a singer sings in any particular round, the people of his state will keep voting for him. How does this benefit the cause of music? Where are the connoisseurs of music?

I would like to see more suggestions for an improved SRGMP 2006. I am planning to send the link for this to the SRGMP people so that they can use the inputs.

One round which used to exist in SRGP long long back was the "chord round" which I used to enjoy a lot. A contestant had to sing a song in a scale set by the accompanying orchestra. This was a round in which many faltered.

Here is what I think.

1. First of all GS should decide whether he wants this show as pure musical or like a personality contest show.

If he wants this tobe a musical contest then the dance, dressing ( all the other things that we saw in C2005) should not be given so much high priority so that good singers do not get eliminated just because they cannot dance or not bold enough.

Indeed, the current SRGMP has progressively become a dance-drama, esp that song in which 3 guys were "flirting" with some unknown girl (Tabu episode). Didn't quite understand what Shaan meant when he said that they had choreographed this to make the contest tougher. Tougher for the audience to endure?

Intoxicating eh? 😉

haha and they should be asked to sing only sharaabi songs. Call that sharaabi round.
