Another set of books I read when I was little:
Pictorial Stories for Children - Though the title says it is for kids I still enjoy reading them. It is a treasure trove of mythological stories and stories about saints and great souls. It is worth reading for all ages. I think it is available in Hindi and Tamil as well.
This set of books has been published by Sri Ramakrishna Math Publications. The first 15 books are bicolour (The illustrations are excellent). Till now 21 books have been published I think. Books 16 - 21 are multicoloured. They are similar to ACK books. There are about 8 illustrated stories per book.

Problem with Valmikiramayan.net is that it's still a work in progress, and does not have the whole thing. If I want to find out things that happened after the killing of Indrajit, that place is no help, yet. I do hope whoever's working on it finishes it quickly.

Thanks kiranraghu. I used to read some excerpts from valmikiramayan.net but it is not complete yet. I am waiting for those working on it to complete it.
Can you please tell me more about Ushasri Ramayan book?

This is for people who are interested in getting know the different versions of the Ramayan and other Indian devotional resources from different parts of India.

S
anskrit/English resource:

The book called 'The Wondorous Crest-Jewel in Performance.' This is the text and translation of the Sanskrit work by V. Raghavan (famous late professor at the University of Madras Sanskrit Department). This book is a translation of the Sanskrit Kuttiyatam drama tradition from Kerala state. The drama is based on the Ramayan. I couldn't believe it when I found this book in an used book store in Canada. 😲😃
😎
Tamil/English resource:

I found this on youtube and I think this is available for purchase as an MP3 from Kalakendra.com's Sanskriti series.

It is called Pasurappadi Ramayanam by Velukkudi Krishnan in Tamil

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gx_5-RHqzK0

This is just an intro on youtube. I think it is Ramayanam based on the Pasurams. The pasurams in Tamil literature are devotional poems on Mahavishnu and his avataars such as Ramji and Krishna. This Ramayan is based on those poems.

I also have a bunch of tapes that I bought when I visited India last year. It is Tyagaraja Ramayanam by Balakrishna Shastri. These are Hari Katha tapes and it is based on the devotional songs sung by Tyagaraja. Tyagaraja was one of the greatest Ram Bhakths just like Tulsidaji. This is also in Tamil

Another resource, these discources are about Tamil devotional poems but many of them are available in English too. The website for Velukkudi's discourses is available at:
http://www.kinchitkaramtrust.org/buyCalendarInitial.action
Look at the 'Publications' link on the left. Some of the discourses are in English and some on in Tamil.

Thanks a lot Mandodari ji for the valuble informaiton. I am totally envious of you (you have Thyagaraja's Kerthanas!!!) I had always wanted to hear them. I hope to get my hands on it someday.
I'll check out 'The Wonderous Crest-Jewel in Performance' when I go out next. It will be interesting to read.
There is so many versions of Ramayan and books on Ramayan that I think even a lifetime would not be enough to read, analyze and understand it all.

Mandodari

Thanks for this page. I'll look at it in more detail later, but scanning it initially for contemporary sources, I spotted

(B) Hindu Scriptures

Ramayanas
(1) Valmiki Ramayana
(2) Ramopakhyana in the Mahabharata (Vana Parva)
(3) The Yoga Vasishtha or the Vasishtha Ramayana

Did Guru Vaishishtha &/or his disciples also write a Ramayan? Also, did Vyasa include a Ramayan within the Mahabharat, and if so, which source did he use?
