C. Rajagopalachari's Ramayan
Amar Chitra Katha
Movies: Old B&W version of the Ramayan called Sampoorna Ramayan
Old movie Luva-Kusha
NDTV/Sagar Ramayan (the best IMHO)
Dada Sagar's Ramayan
New animated version Hanuman
I haven't seen B.R. Chopra's yet. Vibishna, after your recommendation I will see it.

Its quite nice. I am not sure if it will be universally acepted. I think the same person who played Krishna in B.R. Chopra's Mahabharat has played Ram in this series. Bharat's acting in this series was just excellent (I think the person who played Lord Shiva in this new Ramayan played Shathrugan in B.R. Chopra's Ramayan - Sorry, I don't know the names). I'll see if I have pictures from it. The pictures, if I have any, are taken from the videos in youtube.

The Kambaramayan -

The original text written by Kambar is available in books as well as online. But one should be careful as to which of the versions they would enjoy reading.

The original format is in the ancient poetry form. The words are split and joined with other words split likewise - so a person should know how to split the words and read the text. A person named (he was a court judge, I think) M. M. Ismail had split the words correctly and published the book in this format. This one is much easier to read. I think this is the version found online. There are many books that have the verses and the brief meaning given below. If anyone wants to read the complete translation in prose (Tamil), I would recomend, 'Kamba Ramayanam' by Kurinji Gnyana Vaidhyanathan. It is a very good one and very exhaustive.

There is a book titled 'The Kamba Ramayana' which is the english translation of the Tamil epic poem. This book has been written by P. S. Sundaram and edited by N.S. Jaganathan and published by Penguin Publications. I haven't read this one completely, but I have read some parts from it. Though the events are not described completely in detail, this is a good book for someone who wants to get a taste of the Kambaramayan. I think the same publishers have published another book named Valmiki Ramayan too. This is also a good one. (Agian, I have not read it fully, but I have read some bits of it).

An unusual book - 'The Story of Rama - A Mythological Novel' by Narendra K. Sinha. It is written as if Lord Ram narrates his own story. It was quite good, except for the fact that the book is quite unusual. The descriptions, the thoughtlines and the way of the story was quite different from the original Ramayan setting. Some scenes were really beautiful, like Ram describing hearing from his mother the stories of his grandmother Indumathi and how much Maharaj Aja loved her (its a small portion but it was cute). But some scenes like Ram and Sita going around and helping the people and Ram announcing that Sit will work for the upliftment and betterment of women and he himself make arrangements for girls to be educated seemed out of the (at least the Tretha Yuga) world to me.
But this book gave me so many things to think about. I understood the reason for Lord Ram banishing Sita Devi much better after reading it.
I have been trying to find the English translations of Adhyatama Ramayan, Raghuvamsa and Krittivas Ramayan. Can someone suggest a good book or online source for these?

Nice topic Vibs!
I'll share what I've read, mostly books...its not be only about Ramayan but some very popular issues like Lakshman rekha, Vali vadh etc
  • Uttar Ramacharitra by Bhavbhuti - a very old rendition , critically analyzes the character of Shrii Ramchandra. I've read its english translation
  • Krishna charitra by Bankim chandra- Critical analysis of Shrii Krishna, another old rendition
  • Shrii Ramayana Darshanam in Kannada by 'Rashtrakavi 'Ku-VemPu"
  • 'Vastav Ramayan by P V Vartak, its in Marathi but also its english version is available....Its an amazing read
  • Have read some parts of Yuganta by Iravati Karve, her analysis on Sita and Draupadi along with other epic women
  • Articles on Boloji.com/hinduism- these are from modern interpreters and not all may like their take on Ramayana and Mahabharat.
  • Chandamama- kids magazine( I must have read this 'n' # of times😃) too is a very good source for Ramayan and MBH other than ACK .
  • Valmiki Ramayan from the net also own a copy from gita press ....many pages have gone missing

Movies like 'Mahabali Hanuman, Jai-bajrangbali, Hanuman Vijay, (parts of these movies available on youtube)

Telugu movies like Sita swayamvar, Sampoorna Ramayana, Bala Ramayanam...
will keep adding more...............

Here are the books I recommend:
Of course, Original Valmiki Ramayan and Ramcharitmanas are best, but as they are hard to come by for people living in the US or anywhere outside of India, here are some translations or different versions I enjoyed.
1. Krishna Dharma's Ramayan (It was really excellent, the only drawback being that it did not include the Uttar Kand) Krishna Dharma's Mahabharat is excellent also.
2. RK Narayan's Ramayan and Mahabharat are really good as well.
3. I have the Telugu Version of the Adhyatma Ramayana, which is really good.
4. Amar Chitra Kathas on Rama and Krishna are good as well for children. I enjoyed them when I was young.
Serials/Movies
1. Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan and Luv Kush
2. Anand Sagar's Ramayan
3. Telugu Sampoorna Ramayanam Movie (it was too fast paced, but still an enjoyable movie, and the songs were really good)
4. Hanuman (animated movie) was enjoyable and the songs were excellent, especially the closing song. And as Vibhishna said, the Bal Kand of Hanuman was really very cute.😊
5. Animated Ramayan: I never saw this, but heard all the songs from youtube, and they're excellent.
6. Telugu Lava Kusa Movie: the songs in this were outstanding, and the kids who played Lava and Kusa acted excellently.
7. Telugu Sita Rama Kalyanam Movie: It was a wonderful movie starting from Lakshmi incarnating herself as Padmavathi Devi (not the same one who weds Balaji) and ending with the wedding of Sita and Rama. The songs in this are out of the world.
8. Sita Swayamvar (in Hindi), Sita Kalyanam (in Telugu): Both are really good, and I love the song about Vishnu avatar that Sita's friends sing.

Thanks godisone. I'll definitely watch the movies when I get time. I hope they are available online or in some place where I can borrow. I think I have seen Sampoorna Ramayan before, but it was quite a long time ago.
There is a movie in Tamil bearing the same name. I'm not sure it these two are the same movies released in different languages. I loved the song Ravan sings - the different ragas as his family members request it.
Another movie in Tamil - was it Ravan or Lankeshwaran? I am not sure. This movie showed the story of Sita being Ravan's daughter and was taken away to a distant land (Mithila) when it was foretold that she will bring about the destruction of Lanka.
