Even if he didn't learn Urdu in school its doesn't mean that he can't learn on his own.
many people learn it sideways... school is not related.
I totally agree with LoveAngel21.. Urdu is recognized now.
and Asad as a character is quite religious and conservative so it was expected that he could have learned it... and why do you all forget it that its a Muslim show, Urdu is their language.

not comparing Urdu to any other language...we are just saying that this show has been touted as showing the Urban Muslim culture aimed at dispelling wrong notions abt Muslims...sso it wud hv been nice to see some Urdu, which is a symbol of Muslim culture, on the show. Plz dont make it an issue of national importance! 😆

So its nt unrealistic

But Bud, I find it very weird --- that Zoya whso lived abroad all her life knows how to read Hindi but Asad - whos lived around Urdu speakers don't know how to write Urdu. That's unrealistic.

If you are making a show abt a particular culture then at least do some homework...it wouldn't hv bin a prob for the audience to understand what the message read coz zoya would read it aloud any way..so the CVz could hv shown the message in Urdu script...personally I find the script of Urdu the most b'tfl of any language I hv read, it wud hv bin a real cultural experience for non-Urdu speaking ppl. I hv seen Indian soaps where they show Gujrati or Marathi families, their Invitation cards nd greetings are in their regional languages which most ppl in the audience can't read, bt it works.
P.s. I am a Muslim from Delhi and I can read nd write Urdu nd so can most Indian Muslims.

Thank you. That's very well put.

Why does it matter? This is a Hindi TV show so naturally they would show Hindi. They do the same when they're showing a Sikh family too. Btw, I don't understand why you can't write Urdu in Hindi. If it is fine when writing Urdu in English, then what is the problem with Hindi? I know many Sikhs from Pakistan who write Punjabi in Urdu. What is wrong with that?

Also, many NRIs DO know how to read and write languages other than English.

Actually, I blame CVs.
They do not have new ideas regarding their so called 'New' shows. They barely know what they are doing. Only love-struck viewers ended up making their production popular.
They made Geet then thought how could they make it again - only a bit differ? They made IPK by putting many characters in there (There was barely anyone in Geet) ... Out of ideas ... Thought of making an other show in an other channel ... Thinking, how could you make same thing again but differently? Aha! Let's convert all the characters into Muslims even tho we have no idea about the culture! 🤣

India's literacy rate is somewhere around 74% meaning that only 74% of Indians can read ANY of the 22 recognized languages, let alone 95% Indians knowing English. Not everything is written in English, not even in Metropolitan cities...in fact not even in hindi, mostly its a combination of the regional language, hindi and the teeniest bit of english. At most places, English translations are given, Not the other way round.
