If it is fine when writing Urdu in English, then what is the problem with Hindi? I know many Sikhs from Pakistan who write Punjabi in Urdu. What is wrong with that?

Also, many NRIs DO know how to read and write languages other than English.

What's wrong with it? Oh, I don't know ... When you are representing a culture, should do it properly. It's like you while showing one culture, instead of making viewers appreciate it - You are busy promoting an other. Also, instead of educating viewers on the culture, you are sending mixed facts to the viewers.

Okay, since this is the second time i'm quoting and jumping in, just want to clear this out, no offense intended 😕, this is just to put forth my views and get to know yours :)

See, QH is not an educative initiative of some sort or a travel show. They never meant to "Represent a culture" or get viewers to"appreciate it". QH is an entertainment show. Even in the beginning (in an interview ) Gul mentioned that them being Muslim has little to do with the story, the show was never supposed to revolve around the religion or anything. Even if it did, hindi is just as familiar for Indian muslims as is Urdu, maybe more. It has a lot to do with the geography and the demographics.
Also, at least the Indian viewers, would definitely not find this weird or get any mixed signals as they see muslims conversing in hindi all the time.

How is writing in Hindi promoting another culture? Hindi is as much their language as it is for a Hindu. The situations for Muslims in most other countries is very different, but in India, at least according to my experience, they converse in Hindi more often than in Urdu. Even in the show, Technically, they don't talk in Urdu. Maybe a few words here and there, but most of it is hindi only.

Again, this is just my POV and a friendly discussion, so here, take this smile 😊

may be. but this show had audiences from all over India. many of us dont know Urdu dear. So if you are targetting a mass audience who belongs to different culture, you ought to consider their point of view too. Thats what Gul Khan does😳

Wait, are you telling me that whatever we learn regarding our culture, religion, etc-- It's all from school? You mean to tell me that our family, parents, friends have no contribution at all?

<div>You telling me that Urdu speakers living in India have no knowledge at all on how to write Urdu? That's a very shameful fact you telling me, my bud.

Nope! Btw I am Muslim and in Pakistani shows they show Urdu script i mean even when the main characters are so High Fi they don't write in English thats because it helps the illterate audience understand better. What i am trying to say is that in India there are more People who can read Hindi thats why they show it. They are doing it for the audience so they can understand easily.

And obviously every muslim mostly knows how to read Urdu because it's arabic script and thats the main language in the Quran. But it's an entertainment show and they want all audiences to understand what they are showing in their show. If they show Urdu script will the Non Urdu readers be able to read that coz it is an Indian Show after all. So they do it for them.

^Sadia...agree with u on some points- showing a hindi script does not in anyway promote another culture coz hindi is a part of Indian culture, Muslim or not.
But I dont agree that writing the message in hindi was necessary forIndian audience to understand it, coz as I have stated earlier, the audience would get to know what it says when zoya would read it aloud and it would hv been a good cultural experience for non-Urdu speaking and non-Muslim audience. It wz an opportunity lost in my opinion. And if you want to argue that therez no harm in showing the message in hindi script, I have got this to say - Urdu is an integral part of the sub-continenral Muslim culture and its importance can't be over
restimated. And other Indian shows which show regional cultures like Gurati, Marathi etc usually show regional language scripts in their shows as a way of appraising non- native audiences about that particular culture...
Sorry m a chauvinist when it comes to languages and Urdu is very close to my heart, thus the impassioned reply. Not trying to hurt or anger anyone.

Plz dont make it an issue of national importance! 😆

I'm not making it an issue of national importance just because I called Hindi the national language. All I'm bringing to light is the prevalence of both languages and that because Hindi is the national language it is taught with a much greater frequency than Urdu.. I am an Indian Muslim who has spent a good part of her life growing up in one of the cities you listed above. Please stop the patronizing and the sarcasm with those smilies.

Sorry, but u don't have good idea about Indians. You are probably talking abt the once living in urban area...most of the people in semi urban or rural area do not know English that well or don't know it at all... And all the government work is in local language and in English...
