Let me be concise in what I know.

In strictest sense, uploading videos officially and making money out of it is illegal.

But if any video material recorded from tv and uploaded on the net for friends without any financial obligation ( read selling of a video) is perfectly fine.All the cable networks in US provide option of recording the programs for watching it later. Sites like you tube and tv.com are widely recognised sites for this.However if anyone tries to sell copyrighted material or tries to make money without permission or changes material or smuggles out episodes beofre the channel has aired it, it beocmes illegal.

We have taken counsel from lawyers who specialise in cyber laws. So please do rest assured.

As for production houses, I assure you, all the production houses are not only aware that videos are uploaded here, but they are constantly in touch with us and often request us for feedbacks. Many of them are even thankful that we are making their serials available in places where many don't have access to it, especially outside India. The reason could be that often serials loose their airtime value once the episode is aired.
