Hahaha.
So true!
Jokes apart. I'm glad we nearly have our rogue cop.
But.
Why was Arnav climbing into the car "a bit oddly"?!
And. Why do I have a feeling that it's gonna come back and haunt Khushi's conscience??
Bah.
That was beautiful though.
How both of them reacted, and practically proclaimed the other's importance in their lives.
No matter how uncertain or unrooted it seemed... it was so moving.
Thank you for the spectacular update.
But.
I don't want the story to end just yet.
It's far too soon.
SS: Anything Goes part 9
Khushi knocked on the door to Arnav's penthouse. 'Very posh,' she thought of the building and she hadn't even seen the inside yet. But the building in general was very elegant and chic ... not a single thing out of place. She knocked again and waited. 'Maybe he's asleep?' She wondered since it was almost nine at night.
She was about to leave but then the door opened and there he was, looking as sexy as ever. It was the first time ever that she'd seen him without his formal wear because this time he was in sweats and no shirt. She wondered how his toned abs would feel under the touch of her hands -- Khushi stop! She thought internally. 'Ugh, but look at his body!' She had to admit, she liked this look just a bit better than his formal clothes.
"Hey! Sorry, I thought it was my maid." He opened the door wide for her so she can step in then he closed it behind her. Khushi's eyes widened seeing the interior of his house. 'OH MY GOD! He really is the biggest tycoon for him to have such a house.' She immediately fell in love with the place that looked like a mini mansion. 'I could get used to living here ... wait, what the hell Khushi?!' She felt like she was losing a bit of her sanity.
"Is this how you dress, or rather not dress, in front of your maid?" She asked him with a raised eyebrow. Arnav chuckled and flicked her nose. "My maid is an adorable 63 year old woman. I really don't think she would see me that way."
Khushi shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know Arnav, cougars are big nowadays." Her lips formed an involuntary smile when she heard his loud laughter.
He started walking ahead of her to show her the way to the livingroom when Khushi gasped. She pulled him back from his waist, completely starling Arnav by her bold action, and touched the huge bruise mark on his lower back. "What happened?"
He turned around and in doing so, her hands fell to her side. "I don't think you realize how much strength you have in you. When you pushed me down from the shooting yesterday, my back was digging into one of the feet of the table we were by. But it's okay. It doesn't hurt too much."
Khushi sat down on one of the couches that looked like it belonged to a royal family and waited for Arnav to sit down too. She turned towards him, then pushing his shoulder away from her, she got a good look of his back again. She applied some pressure to the darkest spot and Arnav cringed. "Haha, okay, let's not do that now."
"I'm sorry," she said with a frown and Arnav gave her a half smile. "It's okay. You were doing your job. I'll be right back." He got up and left the room leaving Khushi to ponder about how she was supposed to face him about everything he said yesterday...and more importantly, everything she felt.
She caught her reflection in the mirror and groaned. She forgot to fix her hair again! She quickly opened her hair from the bun but since it was in no state to leave it open, she just neatly pushed it all back in a high ponytail, leaving her side bangs where they naturally fell. 'What a fail,' she thought when she took another look.
Arnav came back in a burgundy sweater and a glass of juice. He put that in front of Khushi then sat next to her just smiling. "How are you?"
Khushi sighed deeply with pursed lips. "Look, I really appreciate what you did yesterday but I freaked out because I can honestly say that I would live a very hard life afterwards if something happened to you. You cannot put yourself on the line just to save me." She said with her hand on his hand.
Arnav was looking down at her small and soft hand on top of his. He looked up at her with a very serious look. "And is that only because it's your duty to save me?"
Khushi didn't know how to answer that. She swallowed the lump in her throat. She wasn't stupid. She knew what he was getting at and if she said yes to his question he would be very hurt. And not to mention, she would be lying.
She smiled and shook her head. "No of course not, I care for you too!"
Arnav narrowed his eyes and with a smirk advanced towards her. "In what way?"
"Uh...in a friendly way?" She said but it came out more like a question.
"Bas? Did I have high hopes for no reason then?"
"High hopes for what?" She asked, his husky tone and close proximity causing havoc in her. Arnav's face was right in front of Khushi's. 'So close. So so so close!' She noted.'Kiss him!!!' She thought then shook her head away to also get the silly idea out.
"I know you're smart so put your brain to use. If not a friend then what could I have possibly meant?" He asked and Khushi made an O with her mouth to show she understood. "Meaning girlfriend? My my, Arnav Singh Raizada is so bold!" She said then giggled.
When she stopped laughing she found him staring at her. No, not staring because that is creepy sometimes but gazing. He was gazing at her face, taking in every square inch of her face. Every time he made it to her eyes, he saw confidence of a woman who took down the bad people to make for a safer place but he also saw anticipation. It wasn't that hard though. She kept looking at his lips so he easily understood what she wanted.
"Khushi," he continued in his low and raspy voice, "what would you have to say about this situation right now?"
He saw a change in her eyes when they brightened up as she flashed a flirty smile. "Anything goes."
Arnav chuckled before he closed the distance between them and placed his lips on hers. He pulled back just to see her reaction. Khushi raised her eyebrow in a naughty way then pulled the front of his sweater, crashing his lips against hers. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer towards her as she rested her head against the arm of the couch. She never wanted to let go. He kissed her with so much passion she thought she might die from happiness.
Arnav put his hands around her waist and when she pulled her head back for some air, his lips moved down to her throat. When Khushi felt deprived of his lips, she cupped his face and kissed him madly again. Arnav pulled her up off from the armrest and sat up while she put her legs on either side of his lap to sit comfortably. She devoured him like nothing else in her entire life. She raked her fingers through his hair then finally settled them on his shoulders but always holding tight so he never moves away. Arnav being the gentleman that he was never tried anything funny. He simply left his hands around her waist but pulled her closer to him still.
When they pulled away panting hard, they rested their foreheads against each other's. "Still a friend?" He asked and Khushi snorted a laugh, lightly slapping his cheek. "You win."
"You're right. I do." He said with a kind smile and Khushi ducked her head a bit to kiss his cheek.
"I could finally rub it in that Sanjana's face. Oooh, I cannot wait!" She said rubbing her hands in anticipation.
"Not so soon." He said and Khushi widened her eyes at him. "Wow, offensive much? Are you saying that this isn't going to last therefore you have to test it?!"
"Uh...no, that's not at all what I'm saying." He said with a chuckle. "Not so soon means not to soon." Because in reality, Arnav Singh Raizada had other plans which he wanted to happen in the near future.
"Whatever, I'll intimidate her with my uniform." She said callously. She looked at Arnav then patted his shoulders. "Okay, I got to go." She was about to push herself off his lap when he held her down. "You can stay here."
"Woah! Aren't you being risque?"
"I wouldn't do anything, I'm not like that."
Khushi thought about it then shook her head. "It's not that I don't believe you, but I really have to go home. Mohan tends to come by my apartment a lot to get my butt out the door so if I'm not there...well, he might take drastic actions and report a missing person case." This time she got up and made her way towards the door. Arnav gave a quick peck on her cheek before she left and he closed the door.

Khushi and Mohan ate at a fast food restaurant near the police station during their break. "What's wrong with you?" He asked a quiet Khushi who was busy thinking about the events of last night.
"Nothing! Eat your food, Mohan!" She said sternly, throwing a fry at him. "Do you have anyone suspicious in your mind?" Khushi asked and he shook his head negatively.
"These squad cops look too innocent. I can't even say 'Oh that one right there! Yup, he's the bad one!' Maybe it wasn't a cop after all." He thought more to himself but Khushi had to disagree. She had someone on her mind but she wanted to have some more evidence before saying anything to anyone.
Mohan crumpled the wrap in his hand and got up to leave. "Where are you going?" Khushi demanded.
"I'm assigned to give a tour guide to little kids who come to see the place. I'm supposed to motivate them or something."
"That's ironic, considering that you don't even have any motivation to do this." Khushi joked and Mohan gave her a grimace. "Whatever. PLEASE don't overeat and be late."
"Shut up Mohan! I'm not a cow!" She refuted then looked down embarrassingly at her double chicken burger. She pretended she was completely cool with it until he left laughing. She put her half eaten burger down on her plate then asked the waitress for some tea.
Her tea had just arrived so it was nice and hot when the creepy cop from 39 walked in and immediately smiled at her. She had found out during the previous meeting that his name was Rahul.
"Hey Khushi! How's it going?" He asked as he took the seat across from her - 'without asking?!' Khushi yelled internally.
"Great! What a case we have on our hands eh? Can't wait 'til it's over." She said then casually eyed his wrapped up hand. Wait, WAIT! It wasn't wrapped anymore! Her eyes widened with horror when she saw the tattoo. The damn tattoo! The infinity sign tattoo!
She regained her composure and looked at him casually. "Just here to order some take our for me and a friend," he said with a smile and pointed towards the cash where he went to order.
Khushi was about to have a panic attack. This was it! He was the second last guy! And who knows, maybe he was even heading towards his "friend" Sunil! That would bring an end to the case!
She took her phone out and texted Mohan. "You're right. He's a cop and I've found him."
She turned her head towards him when he came back after a few minutes with his take out in a bag. "Well it was nice to see you, Khushi. I'm sure the case will come to an end soon so don't fret about it. See you on the battlefield comrade." He said and Khushi smiled back at him, nodding her head positively. When he left, Khushi's smile fell. "You're right, this is going to end very, very soon."

Rahul?! And... Sunil?!

I'm now desperately looking forward to the next update.
Hopefully not for too long, right?
SS: Anything Goes part 10
Khushi barged into the police station and charged towards the operating unit. Do you know the Rahul cop from 39?" She asked one of them but he shook his head no. Khushi went to ask Mohan but he still wasn't back. She went towards her Chief's office and she came up empty.
She waited for some minutes, fidgeting at times as if she had to pee. Finally the Chief came. "Chief! You need to turn on your computer right now!"
Chief looked at her with a shocked expression first then he furrowed his eyebrows. "Be careful with who you're commanding Gupta."
"Sorry sir, but I promise you you're going to want to take action on this right away." They went in and he turned on his computer. Khushi asked about Rahul's information and slapped her forehead when she heard everything.
The damn idiot was a rookie cop who had been serving for only the past seven months. But something didn't make sense to Khushi'
"How is he on squad then?" She asked.
"He's not," said Chief.
"Well he was there during the house evacuation. Mohan said the guy he knocked him down had a tattoo on his hand and that's the same tattoo I saw today! What is going on?"
"Wait, wait! He was at the house evacuation? He's not supposed to be! How did no one else notice?"
Khushi shrugged her shoulders to show she had no idea either. Chief let out a big sigh and made all the calls he had to. "When did you get back from outside?"
"Ten minutes ago, and it took me three minutes for the drive. He's fifteen minutes away, we have to get a move on it!"
****
Khushi sat next to Mohan in the car and her blood was boiling with adrenaline. She was so ready to bring this to an end once and for all. They, along with Deep and Vikram, and two other police cars were following the instructions of the operating guys who were telling them which coordinates to take and when to turn since they got into Rahul's phone and was tracking his device.
Khushi had to ask for the operator to repeat what he said. "It seems like he'd stopped at The Imperial Hotel."
"The Imperial Hotel? How the fricken hell can they afford such a luxurious hotel? God damnit!" She swore and Mohan rolled his eyes. "Seriously Khushi, this is not the time to be jealous."
"Whatever! Have you ever Googled that place? Mohan, it's one of the most expensive hotels in Delhi!"
"My God! Shut up!" He said, getting frustrated with her ranting. Khushi curled her lips at him then turned her head away. "Stupid criminals. I hope they enjoy their last few seconds." She murmured to herself.
They showed their badges to the security guards in the lobby then demanded to know about where Rahul was.
Three cops came up to the door while the others stationed themselves at exits, just in case the men decided to try something funny. Khushi cleared her throat and knocked on the door. "Room service," she said and rolled her eyes when Mohan smirked but he went right back to his serious mode with his gun held ready.
The door opened for a second and they got a glimpse of Rahul's face but his eyes widened and he tried to slam it back shut but Khushi pushed it back with force. They barged in and all the cops stood frozen in their spot when Rahul held his own gun up to them.
"Don't take another step or I'll blow your brains out."
"Where's Sunil?"
"Who?" Rahul pretended to play dumb.
"Don't mess around with us! Where is Sunil?!" Mohan yelled and Rahul loaded the gun while Khushi gasped. She contemplated the situation and did the only thing she could think of.
She took one big step towards Rahul and kicked his hand the other way and even though a shot went off, it only hit the bed. Mohan and the other cop Deepak grabbed a hold of Rahul while Khushi went throughout the rest of the hotel.
No one else was there. But there couldn't not be... She went out onto the balcony and surely enough there was someone there - a boy who looked no older than 18 or 19. She figured it was Sunil and when she called out his name he looked her way with terror in his eyes.
"Sunil, why don't you come back here? We can help you, and you can help us! We'll negotiate a deal where you will have an easier penalty. Won't you help us?" She asked in a soothing voice though she was on the verge of just yelling at him.
But Sunil wasn't listening; he was shaking in fear as he kept looking down. Khushi was shaking in her skin herself. What if he tried something drastic? And then this time he looked at her and then the ground from which they were up 22 levels.
"No, don't. Don't Sunil! I told you we can help you! What are you going to do this for? Do you seriously want to end your life for a man who made you commit crimes all this time?"
Just then Deepak also came out onto the balcony and looked at Khushi with wide eyes. "What is he doing?" He whispered but Khushi told him to keep quiet. She moved to the edge of the railing and held her hand out. "Please Sunil, come with me! I will help you! Just don't do this."
"I promised. I promised bhaiyya that I'd always be at his service. I can't break a promise," he said then leaned over the edge and started falling down, down, down.
"NO!!!!!" Khushi screamed as she saw him flying down. She looked away before she heard the loud thud that his body created when he smashed into the ground. She couldn't breathe. She couldn't get any air through her lungs even though she was standing outside. Wanting to cover her tears with anger, she went back to the room where Rahul was with Mohan and slapped him hard in the face.
"HE'S DEAD! He killed himself! You tell me now, was any of this worth it?!" She took a step towards him and held on tightly to his jaw - so tight that he couldn't even move his neck. "If I ever see your face again, by God, I will kill you on the spot!!"
She gave one look at Deepak and told him to call for an ambulance. Four years as a cop and this was the first time she observed someone take their own life. She was definitely not in the mood for anything else.
****
Khushi tried to keep herself composed as she walked out of the police station. Mohan was giving her worried glances but she kept her face blank. She had a lot going on in the back of her mind but she wouldn't let her thoughts flow until she was in the comfort of her own house.
When Khushi got home, she went straight for her bedroom and curled up on her bed. The young man, Sunil, who was just a teenager, ended his own life because of a promise. Because of another man who pretended to show him love as a brother and then commanded him to follow his orders at all times.
There was so much hate in Khushi towards Dev the bas***d but her grief was quickly taking over her. The scene of Sunil pushing himself off the edge of the building kept replaying in her mind and she was no longer able to handle her tears. She scrunched the sheets under her hand and cried bitterly. She was meant to protect the lives of people and she couldn't do just that. She failed at her own profession.
She got up startled when someone started knocking on her door. Her heart started beating fast. She didn't know why but she felt like it could be someone after her. For the first time, she also felt fear for her own safety. She got up and walked towards the door and looked through the peep hole. She gasped loudly and opened it to Arnav.
Arnav's heart immediately sank seeing her red and tear filled eyes. He took one step to close the door behind him. "Khushi, what happened?" He asked and that's all it took for her to break down in front of him. She crashed her body against his and sobbed really hard.
"He killed himself! I tried to talk him out of it but I couldn't!!" She said in a trembling voice. She held on tightly to his shirt from the back struggled to get air to breathe.
"You tried Khushi. It's not your fault!" Arnav said, stroking her hair but he felt her shaking her head no. "He's dead. He was tricked into believing whatever he believed. They tricked him and used him like a toy!"
Arnav picked her up because she seemed so unwilling to move, and took her to her room to lay her down. He tried to straighten himself but Khushi held on to his collar. "Please don't leave me," she whispered and Arnav's heart tightened seeing her in this state. He slipped in next to her and she curled up right next to him as she continued to cry in his chest.
He rubbed her back until she fell asleep.
*****
When Khushi woke up an hour, she didn't find anyone next to her. She started to panic and quickly ran out her room to the living room and her heart relaxed when she found him in the kitchen making food.
She walked quietly towards him, with his back to her, and she wrapped her arms around his waist. Arnav was surprised to see her awake so soon. He brought his arm up over her head so she ended up hugging him from the side. He leaned his head down and kissed her forehead.
"Pasta?" He asked with a smile and Khushi nodded her head yes. They ate on the couch because she preferred it that way. When they both finished, Khushi pulled her knees up to her chest and curled up right next to Arnav's side.
"He was really young and that's what got me the most. I think he was referring to Dev when he said 'bhaiyya.' I would like to kill that 'bhaiyya,' if I ever see him. Can you believe these damn people use kids to do their dirty work? I mean, will Dev even feel remorse when he finds out that the boy who considered him a brother killed himself for his sake?" Khushi was just going on and on and Arnav was just intently listening to everything she was saying.
She looked up at his face at one point and smiled, lightly slapping his cheek. "Thank you." Arnav smiled back and took her hand, kissing her palm. "Not a problem. This is what I'm here for."
"Oh yeah...caring boyfriend and all." Khushi said with a giggle and Arnav shrugged his shoulders. "I think I prefer to be the all."
"Oh God, not again with this game. What do you want this time?" She asked.
"Khushi! What do you think 'all' is referring to?" He asked with hope that she'd get but she didn't.
"I don't know! You want to be my boyfriend and a friend. That's it. Thank you but I get it!!"
"You really don't!" He said in the same tone as her and chuckled when she grimaced at him.
"What if I asked you to live with me?"
"I'd kindly say no because I'm not that type. Sorry!"
"Did you hit your head against a pole today?" He laughed when Khushi's mouth dropped open. She furrowed her eyebrows at him in anger and got up to take the dishes to the sink but Arnav pulled her back down onto his lap.
"Okay, no more jokes. I'm just going to be serious. Khushi," he said her name to make sure he has her attention. "What!" She said because she was so annoyed. Arnav was just about to speak when her phone went off and she picked it up.
"Hey Mohan."
"How are you feeling?" He asked.
"Not in the best mood, and it doesn't help when someone is playing word games with you." She said, glaring at Arnav.
"What?" Mohan asked in confusion and Khushi rolled her eyes. "Nothing! What do you want?"
"Tomorrow is Dev's trial date so you need to be present."
Khushi let out a big sigh then said, "Yeah. Will be. I'll see you tomorrow." She hung up the phone then looked at Arnav with a frown. "What were you saying?"
"Same thing as a minute ago. I want you to live with me, but you won't so I guess that's that."
"Yeah it is. It's a good thing you know how to handle rejection." She said then laughed when Arnav's smile fell.
